Round 1 team prediction

ive now seen 3 interviews with Locky where he mentioned Smith as an X-factor..

Smith will be on the Bench

Ah ok my bad. Then McGuire or Dodds gets that spot, Gillett battles with Setu for the other.

Yes Coxy, I can vouch for McGuire's pretty ordinary trial form. Well, he was ordinary against the Raiders anyway. I wouldn't be totally shocked if Dodds or Spence were picked on the bench in front of him for round 1. I am sure McGuire will come good though.

I heard McGuire had a killer game against the titans where we got flogged. He seems to be in great shape having lost about 6kg and is looking better than ever. He won't be losing his bench spot. It wouldn't surprise me if he locks down a starting spot by mid season.

I read another article about Thaiday somewhere - he said he was asked to play in the front row until the young guys prove themselves capable of a starting spot. I think everyone knows it's not his best position, but sometimes you have to do what's best for the team rather than the individual. No doubt he'll be back out wide sooner or later.

This is the team I would like to see picked for round 1

1. Hoffman
2. Winterstien
3. Michaels
4. Folau
5. KEMP
6. Lockyer
7. Wallace
8. Kenny
9. McCullough
10. Anderson
11. Te'o
12. Thaiday
13. Parker

14. Setu
15. Sims
16. McGuire
17. Glenn.

I think this team is very well balanced and will get over the top of the cowboys. Also you may question the selection of Michaels and rightfully so but I'd like to see if he has learnt anything from 2009 . I think he has the talent I think he needs the confidence to be shown in him from Henjak and he will excel.

I will question it.

Henjak showed him plenty of confidence last season by keeping him in the team for so damn long.

If he has the talent, and has learnt from his mistakes, he should be made to prove so in the Qld Cup, not in the NRL.

We have far better prospects i'd rather chance my arm on than Michaels.

Fair call but I am interested to know which players you would rather chance your arm on instead of Michaels??? I do agree he was given about 10 weeks to long in first grade last season.

id rather go with Glenn or shift Winter and have Hoffman/kemp on the wings and Norman at fullback.

If not Michaels I'd have Beale in there he has the talent and played a fair bit of centre in QLD cup last year.

Done it before but boredom is telling me to do it again.

1. Norman
2. Kemp
3. Folau
4. Glenn
5. Winterstein
6. Lockyer
7. Wallace
8. Kenny
9. McCollough
10. Sims
11. Thaiday
12. Te'o
13. Parker

14. Anderson
15. Setu
16. Gillett
17. McGuire

While I agree to give others a go, I still feel it is unfair to cast Michaels adrift right away. There was a stage where he clearly lost confidence and unfortunately got left there for about 8 weeks too long which, unlike some other players, didn't help his cause at all. That's not necessarily his fault; it's just how it panned out and it's one of those things where you need time away from the spotlight to get your mind in the right place. From what I recall, he was in good form before his injury a couple of years ago so I don't think he's a lost cause.

Having said that, I think this is how the backline is shaping up for Rd 1:

1. Norman
2. Winterstein
3. Glenn
4. Folau
5. Kemp

And I would expect to see Tim Smith or Ben Hunt on the bench for Rd 1 as cover for Lockyer, who I don't think has had enough match time yet.
