Round 10 - Broncos vs Sea Eagles - Post Match Discussion

Parker has been through patches like this before with his kicking. Great game, bad way to lose.

I hope Griffin learned a few things about how other teams will attack us when we defend too short. I can only assume Copley was so deep because he was told to be.

With Wallace and Hodges to come back we are looking mighty good for the back end of this year.

Indeed, but the first Manly try should have sent a very clear message to change that silly tactic

I think McGuire played his way into an Origin jersey tonight. Thought he was unreal. Hannant had another good game. Gillett whilst good in attack was shit in defense and Reed wasn't much better in defense.

Gillett with 2 abysmal reads in defence that led to two Manly tries.

Agreed. Did some freaky stuff with the ball in hand but his defence was hopeless. Didn't know where to position himself, no line speed either.

Also, great to see Griffin getting value out of Anderson on the bench. May as well only select 16..

Gillett was our best player with the ball and easily our worst in defence he once again proved why picking backrowers in the centres is a sh1t idea. We were by far the better side and lost to a pack of f#cking mongrels I really hate Manly so much they are such a pack of whinging, diving, dirty assh0les. We were simply superb in so many ways tonight, Manly showed they are a quality side tonight by sticking with us and taking opportunities when they got the few they did but my god I hate losing to Manly and I especially hate losing to them in these type of circumstances. Josh McGuire may have played himself into an Origin jersey he was enormous tonight and our halves were quite good excluding some poor kicks from Hunt otherwise both of them were excellent as was Macca. Our pack in general was great and really outplayed a pack of real quality tonight. On Parkers kicking I have always been uneasy on a guy with the workrate he has being our kicker I really love wing/centre/fullback kickers they don't have to do the work the big fellas do they are fresher physically and mentally for kicks. I really think Wallace needs to take the job, as Parker was fantastic otherwise but all most will focus on was his horrendous kicking, most of which were not struck at all well as opposed to good strikes that sail a little offline.

Yeah, McGuire was superb. Petero went off after, what, 15 or so minutes, and I didn't even see him come back on. I thought McCullough was great too, but he really needs to stop with those dummy half kicks, they NEVER work.

Norman looked good tonight, but Hunt was a bit off the mark IMO, some poor kicks from him. Capewell looked waaay off the pace.

Am I the only one who hates how Macca always tries that dinky little grubber close to our line?? Tonight Watmong picked it up and ran 50m's

How about Wallace/Norman take over goal kicking duties forever, McGuire plays the 80 at lock, we keep Te'o and Parker can gagf.

Absolutely.

It's a low probability play for him. I can't remember too many times where he's got a repeat set for us from it, let alone points.

Just like his constant dummying at the start of his career, this is another thing he needs to cut back on.

Hunt and Norman were amazing tonight, awesome kicking. Broncs attack was brilliant but ordinary defence.

Purely Parker's fault. Purely. Anyone who disagrees does not understand the dynamics of a rugby league game. Parker's shit kicking kept Manly in the game.

Anyone who attributes blame directly on one person doesn't understand the dynamics of a rugby league game.

Normally I think it is unfair when people blame kickers when they miss from the sideline. But in this instance, you are absolutely correct. 3 very makable kicks and he missed them all.

Also, what makes it worse IMO is that he already knew he had to work on his kicking:

Round 9: 2/4
Round 8: 3/5
Round 7: 3/6

And most of those weren't sideline misses either, they were kicks that most players land 75% of the time. That's 8/15 the past 3 weeks, so it's not like he had a really bad game out of character. It was an area he knew he had to improve on, and instead of doing that, he got worse. For a frontline goalkicker, that's unacceptable.

That's not to say that there aren't other areas where we need to improve, because there certainly are. But tonight there is absolutely no doubt that goalkicking cost us the match.

Take the goal kicking away from Parker tonight, and he was one of our best players. But that goal kicking...might be time to try someone else.

Wow, that was seriously the worst defensive effort I have seen from a Griffen coached side! Everyone was on their heals waiting for Manly to decide what they were going to do. Is Perry still available, because Hunt is seriously the worst halfback ever to play for the Broncos. He should just pass to a footballer because he isn't, and please never let him KICK EVER AGAIN. I think Capwell has played his one and only game for the Broncos. Right from the 3rd min I could tell that the Broncos were never gonna be in this game.
