POST GAME Round 10 - Sea Eagles vs Broncos

The rule should be changed and if Archer's mob adjudicated with a bit of common sense and not black and white you would be able to see what is dangerous and what is just players exploiting the rules. Same with the farce that is the obstruction rule. But **** me the constant whinging from Manly is nauseating. Never changes with them. I thought the last few years the knobs were starting to filter their way out but nope up pops Barrett.

Oates got hit in the air and it cost us a try. Should that have been deemed dangerous and we awarded a penalty try?

FFS, the rule is fine as is. If poor old Turbo Tom doesn't want to get hit in in the air he can jump for it and contest the bomb in the air. Or he can wait til the bouncing ball comes back down again. If neither of these options are acceptable, well, take your chances then...

A similar incident (bloke tackled in the air going for a ball after it had bounced) happened in the storm v titans game. Not a fucking word about it because no injury.

Hard cases make bad law. The rule is fine.

Ps is the same Manly who, in the 1997 season, invented the tactic of trying to dive at a kickers supporting leg/knee. Nearly destroyed Matty Johns career in the GF.

Are these the same jurnos who continually laud Blocker, Ian Roberts and Les Boyd as 'tough' when they were just fucking thugs.

Don't give a shit what Manly and the Southern press think. Hypocrites.

It's not like the broncos took a hammer to turbos knees on purpose. It was a fair contest and unfortunately he landed awkwardly on his leg. Shit happens. Next game

"... In Trbojevic’s case, the ball was several metres in the air and he was completely defenceless when belted by Mead..."

Tom Turbo Jumping

Are the media just trolling the broncos??

Serious question as I can't tell whether they're serious half the time considering half the shit they write about are non-events, seen 100 times each weekend and now just plain legal and within the rules.

Why are these even articles??

I haven't seen one commentator come out and say the rule should be changed... yet they're crowing on like it's an epidemic and should be eradicated from the game

I asked the same thing a couple of weeks ago when they bleated about the Sims try. You'd have to think it's being driven by a butthurt Paul Kent or someone else who is feeling threatened right now. I mean, not supposed to even make the finals has turned in to 5 in a row and a top 4 spot, despite losing our halfback and most dangerous outside back to injury. Someone is not happy with that.

This might a controversial opinion but assuming Trbo knows the rules he realises by jumping to take a bounce he was exposing himself to be belted in the air. He took the risk and unfortunately he got injured.

It's like when a player takes the hit up off the kick off and doesn't slow down at the line, it's dangerous and ballsy as **** but if you get hurt you dont whinge that they shouldn't have tacked you at that speed.

In all fairness, that Broncs tweet was pretty ordinary, poor form. I thought the club had a bit more class than that than stooping to nsw media shite.

Wow, that's some serious air.

Unfortunate result, but a legal tackle. I do think they may want to look at the ruling but toy can't fault Mead for putting the shot on under the circumstances.

Objectively, I'd say his injury had an impact on the result. Compare Hastings making kick returns against Turbo or his size and speed at the line? No contest.

Poor form on the tweet by the club. Huge play in the context of the game but they should have known better.

Hence my scoffing of "several metres in the air". What a fucking beat-up.

EDIT: Fake for comparison.

Yep knew somebody would come up with this regarding oates. Exactly what I was talking about with having common sense on rulings. None shown here with this post

LOL . Had me fooled! If he really had that much air then AFL clubs would be climbing over themselves to sign him.

No point answering the rest, because this is where the core is at, and honestly, it's not even a question of opinion. It would not have been penalised, unless they attacked the legs, hit the player late or shoulder charged him. There are enough examples of this every week in the NRL.

Below are the refs interpretations.
I would think a similar incident against a kicker would be considered dangerous, every time, but happy to agree to disagree P :)

Tackling a Kicker

When affecting a tackle on a kicker, the defender must make a genuine attempt to tackle which is not:
1. Late
2. High or
3. Dangerous.

Hilarious! Not a bad shop jobby. It was a completely legit tackle. Just sucks about the outcome.

Legit.

In fact, Mead actually strips the ball during this tackle, which is probably why TT wasn't thinking about where his feet were going to land.
