POST GAME [Round 11, 2024] Broncos vs Sea Eagles

One major concern I have is Piakura's defence. He gets solid contact on north-south runners, but any hint of footwork and the bloke whiffs on his tackles. I hope he tightens up his defence
Yeah have to agree with this.. he's a hitter in defence if they're coming straight at him, but Talagi try last week where he left Ezra 1v1 by not covering the inside and then a couple efforts tonight (slow getting back the 10m and then not staying with the defensive line, not much linespeed at times, etc.)... the edge defender needs to help with cutting off backline movements by getting up in the backline and forcing them back infield.

I don't know if he makes the best reads with numbers around him, but he has to be pushing up and covering on the inside.

It could be a fitness thing where he's potentially getting gassed during games... he's missed a lot of games over the last few years... but he really needs to sort it out. Have to be able to play both sides of the ball, can't just be an attacking gun

Re watching the replay. Normally if I do that I think "my bias got in the way, the ref wasn't that bad"....

Not this time. That held penalty against staggs was worse then I originally thought and completely momentum shifting and unnecessary...
Game changer. We get a turnover there and score....massacre. This was followed by a plethora of 6 agains!

Started well then had to dig deep. Suffered a couple of set-backs and blew a few opportunities but when the game was there to be won they didn't hesitate.

Carrigan with a strong captain's knock up-front and Cobbo with some magic out the back. I have no idea how he managed to defuse that one bomb at the end so casually, beat a few tackles and get the team on the front foot.

Was happy with what I saw from the rookies. It was nice to get some experience into them especially with Origin right around the corner.

We’re the Broncos
The mighty Broncos
We keep fighting every second till the end

We’re the Broncos
The greatest team on earth
We’re the heart of all Queensland

Never stop
We never rest
On and on we beat the best
Never giving up we bleed maroon and gold

For the league
We risk it all
Miles above
We’re standing tall
We’re the finest and the greatest club of all

We’re the Broncos
The mighty Broncos
We keep fighting every second till the end

We breathe in our soul
The best game of all
We are the Broncos of Queensland

Hey!!

Well

The Broncos are our name
Through the north we won our fame
Being handy with the ball
And we drove the Blues insane
And we put on a move
And we scored a certain try
So sing out our alibi

You didn’t know we had to beat ya
And we’re so sorry my friends
You didn’t know we had to beat ya

We will never do it again

Bullshit

Absolute game management... I don't know what Toddles was claiming to call held there. His feet never left the ground, neither the ball or the ball carrying arm touched the ground and momentum was never stopped.

He called held as soon as he was heading towards to the sideline... absolute game management, because we would've been all over manly on the back of it and the game may have started getting away from them with a man in the bin.

Yep. Howler of the year I reckon. Complete bullshit penalty
The forward pass try was even worse. That got manly into the game, and was up there with the reece walsh one for us against the warriors. At least that one wasn't in a close game, this one got them back in the game. Shocking tbh. If it was the other way around I have no doubt he would be under pressure from the media post game, no doubt at all..

What was the go with Manlys last couple of plays. Threw absolutely nothing but a second rower crash ball

His defence is a big concern. He's great at folding blokes, but this isn't the 90's anymore.

That was my biggest concern for him coming into this season. I posted footage of a few examples in the WC where he was absolutely embarrassed defensively. It's something he will need to work on and it's something we will need to fix if we make the finals.

Come finals time, every single playmaker will be watching that Round 3 game where Cleary had an absolute field day with him.

Re Mozer.

As has been mentioned, he came on when we had no momentum and he also came into an injury riddled team in just his second game of NRL. He was never lighting it up out there.

I think back to last year when Smoothy started out, he was poor. Every week when the team list came out it was why is Smoothy still being picked and Paix is sitting in reserve grade? Kevvie is on drugs. Now look at him.

He wasn't impressive, but you gotta give players time.

Hard markers. He did well.

Kev
He is a legend honestly I am glad he is our coach. You can feel the warmth from him from us the fans to the team I mean wonder why the guys have a strong bond I mean the Brotherhood of the bronx
Kev is the hero we needed but likey didn't deserve. The way he took the heat year one and two. While slowly building what he envisioned. He has also grown immensely as a coach and communicator. We are really blessed to have him.

I agree - he threw a few rocket passes that I think the players weren't used to - but he looked comfortable and capable against decent enough opposition. DCE might be old, but he is still playing origin for a reason. They lacked Turbo, but he had the weapons they needed to put us away if we were deficient in defense and he held his own. He and Patty caused a drop ball during a tackle twice from memory.

Would be keen to give him another week to just see if he can find his feet a little more.

to be fiar we all turned on darious in that last year or 2.

even thinking about it will bring back the night sweats
The thing is we as supporters may never know why Darius was going so bad or what he was battling. Where Corey would have inside knowledge and may have been viewed as piling on a down man and a club in very bad moment.

It wasn't Darius fault that essentially all but three senior players got moved on and we were left with a team of guys who had very little first grade experience. It would have been a huge weight for the senior boys to keep that team together.

It's actually amazing we did manage to keep that team together to the degree we did.

Mozer is a starter type hooker so it's hard for him to play the impact role as he isn't the runner type, but even still I felt he held his own and did well with the cards dealt to him.

Hmm, in the end Darius looked like he was there for the paycheque. The baby gender reveal after spooning told me everything about his priorities. He was there to see out his contract, his body was shot and he should have retired 1-2 seasons earlier but for whatever reason was encouraged to stay and it destroyed his legacy.
