Round 11 - Roosters vs Broncos

Kevvie singled out Lodge, TPJ and Haas for praise in his presser. Said they'd been the best all season. Might want to hang on to them, Kevvie.
Starting to think that Kevvie is the mole spreading false tidbits to the media that he is cleaning house with the Lodge and TPJ rumours.
Genius move if he is, working for Fox probably steeled him for this kind of media mind games.

Lodge, Haas and TPJ were so good. Glad they were rightly praised in the presser.

Haas looked good in 2nd stint after what seemed like a longer break. This was only possible becuase of how well Lodge went.

Also seemed like Lodge was doing alot of talking in the huddles. Great great game from him. That was pre covid Lodge

Coates didn't do much tonight, but this jump was mind boggling.

Pangai, Kelly lead the way as Broncos stun Roosters

Sydney Roosters forward Victor Radley’s State of Origin hopes are in doubt after he was sin-binned twice and placed on report on a further two occasions as Brisbane enforcer Tevita Pangai jnr inspired his side to a shock 34-16 triumph at the SCG.

Pangai, who targeted rookie Roosters halfback Sam Walker and engaged in a running battle with Radley, was the star in an impressive Broncos performance as Kevin Walters men bounced back from a 50-6 loss to Manly to record just their third win of the season.

Five-eighth Albert Kelly was also a standout in his first NRL appearance for seven years, while veteran winger David Mead scored the third hat-trick of his career to spoil the Roosters tribute to retired co-captain Jake Friend and the debut of 17-year-old sensation Jospeh Suaalii.

However, the main news from the match was the double sin binning of Radley for high shots on Kelly and Pangai, while he was also placed on report for tackles on Brisbane halfback Tyson Gamble and winger Xavier Coates.

After missing last season’s Origin series due a knee injury, Radley had been expected to be selected for NSW but he now faces a nervous wait to learn the extent of charges laid by the match review committee.

Broncos prop Matt Lodge and Gamble were also sin binned late in the match.

Pangai signalled Brisbane’s intent when he crossed in the fifth minute for a disallowed try from a Tyson Gamble kick and then engaged in some push and shove with Radley before bumping off Sam Walker and Sitili Tupouniua to put Dale Copley over with a flick pass in the eighth minute.

Radley was sent for his first stint in the sin bin five minutes later after a late tackle on Albert Kelly, which referee Peter Gough described as “high and forceful”, and veteran Papua New Guinea winger scored the first of his three tries while the Roosters were down to 12 men.

The return of Radley coincided with the most dominant period of the match by the Roosters as James Tedesco laid on three tries in 10 minutes for Angus Crichton, Daniel Tupou and Tupouniua to put the home side in front for the first time.

However, the Broncos went to halftime with a 16-14 lead after Mead intercepted a Walker pass and raced 95 metres to score in the 39th minute.

Radley was given his marching orders for a second time just two minutes after the re-start for a high shot on Pangai, who had again aimed his run at Walker on the previous tackle, and the Broncos again took advantage when John Asiata pounced on a Kelly grubber to score.

Asiata then turned provider to lay on a 60th minute try for rookie second-rower Keenan Palasia, although the pass appeared forward and Brisbane survived the 72nd minute sin binning of Lodge to run out 34-16 winners after another long range Mead try.
