Round 12 - Broncos vs Manly - Pre-Match Discussion

Assuming Hodges will be out but the rest will back up. Surely Hunt will be our goal kicker for the rest of the year. He may not be the best in the comp or anything but I feel 100% more confident in him over Parker. If the ball is more then 10 metres either side of the post I don't expect Parker to make it which is unacceptable for a first choice goal kicker.

I think we will lose comfortably. Manly are a class above us, at this point.

What I'd love to see:

1. Barba
2. Vidot
3. Hoffman
4. Copley
5. Maranta
6. Nicholls
7. Hunt (GK)
8. McGuire
9. Macca
10. Hannant
11. Glenn
12. Gillett
13. Parker (c)
14. Thaiday
15. Wallace
16. Granville
17. Oates
18. Lowrie

Barba is on his last chance before he gets dropped. Hopefully putting someone who has shown they can play 5/8th (Nicholls 5/8th is NSW Cup team of the year, thats gotta mean something) in the side will let Barba play his natural game. Hoffman is literally our worst 'half', and I'm 100% willing to bring in someone else. It'll release the pressue off Hunt too having someone who can ball-play and kick.

Reed dropped, Hodges rested, Thaiday benched until he proves he can play full minutes.

I'm aware none of these changes will occur cause Hook, but a man can dream...

It's almost at the point of hoping for a Josh Hoffman injury.. that must sound horrible, even if he's just out for 1-2 games, so Griffin is forced to try someone else, there's no way the person he gives a run will do worse than Hoffman, and we'll be a much better team for it for the rest of the season..

There's a reason Manly call Suncorp Brookvale North, of the 11 games played there since the redevelopment we have only won 4 times.

They are going to have a field day, get ready to see this again:

We cannot win pressure games against quality teams.

Mate, I love watching Vidot. Honestly, I do.

Vidot is, as many say on here, the "buy of the season". He carries entire teams on his back! Vidot has made the most metres of any player in the team - more than 400 than our next best Parker, and more than 500m more than the best in the Manly side.

No need to worry about Vidot at all.

Taufua btw has made less than half the metres than Vidot has. Pffft!

Tries? Which is what wingers are all about? Taufua 7. Vidot 2. Copley 7. Oh.

Anyway, sarcasm aside, Vidot is, like a number of players in our great team, a victim of playing on the left hand side.

Yet another casualty of poor coaching and no quality ball.

I can only imagine what his scoring stats would be like if he played on Manly's right hand side ... or even ours for that matter.

As for the game itself, I will say what I always say. We can beat any team. It just depends on who turns up on the day.

Broncos by 10. Hook to infuriate.

Other than thinking he's not ready for Origin I have nothing against Vidot and would agree he's been our buy of the year. But he did make that defensive error last week, and whilst it's not my intention to chastise him for it, I'm pointing out that Lyon is exactly the type of player who will exploit that over and over again if he's not careful.

And Taufua has played 5 games this year. To have 7 tries already is a great achievement, and I'm sure extrapolated would lead Manly in metres gained. That said, based on last week we should kick to him all night long.

Your right, that does sound horrible. It is horrible.

I have a better solution, the NRL introduce a requirement for the main coach to sit on the sideline alongside the players during the match, Griffin gets into a Gould like instance with referee Harrigan and Griffin gets sent off, punishment immediate disqualification of coaching for the remainder of the season, problem solved at least for 2014.

we all want Hoffman moved but it will never happen until hook is gone. at this stage Hoffman will be first choice 5/8th for next season too ffs

Tough ask this game. Manly are the team to beat this year, IMO. When they're on, they've been tearing teams to pieces, and salvaging ugly wins even when down on numbers /players. A bridge too far, given our form.

I will be tipping Manly, but hope we keep it competitive. Daresay Hodges will be rested, and likely Gillett too, depending on how Origin plays out. I would not be surprised if Parker backs up, and perhaps Thaiday might make a comeback. Should improve our chances of a respectable scoreline. Hopefully Hunt retains goal kicking...

No he won't because Hook and likely Hoffman will be gone by next season ...

I think Vidot has been great coming out of our 20m zone. BUT he has been horrible in attack. He has deadset bombed two certain tries. He needs to learn to find the line when given the oppurtunity. Granted the two tries that I can think of did not cost us the game (Tigers & Dragons) but it will cost us eventually!!!!

Well, Hoffman has only passed the ball once all season.

Vidot has only bombed one try and that was against the Dragons. The one against the Tigers, the ball was stripped from him hands, illegally too I might add as there was another player with their hands on Vidot at the time - I don't know how that didn't get picked up.

Not confident at all for this game. I just hope we don't get blown off the park. Oh, and if Brett Stewart could get smashed in some way, that'd be satisfying too.

Wasn't illegal...a defender is allowed to make a play at the ball in a try saving position on the attacking player...??
