Round 12 - Broncos vs Manly - Pre-Match Discussion

Wasn't illegal...a defender is allowed to make a play at the ball in a try saving position on the attacking player...??

From what I could see, there were 2 in the tackle and the ball was stripped. Is that legal?

ANYWAY!

This is what I'd do...

1. Barba
2. Hoffman
3. Reed
4. Copley
5. Vidot
6. Nichols
7. Hunt
8. Maguire
9. Macca
10. Hennant
11. Oats
12. Glenn
13. Lowrie
14. Molo
15. Wallace
16. Kennedy

Once Origin is over:
1. Barba
2. Hoffman
3. Reed
4. Hodges
5. Vidot
6. Nichols
7. Hunt
8. Maguire
9. Macca
10. Parker
11. Gillet
12. Thaiday
13. Lowrie / Glenn
14. Glenn / Lowrie
15. Hennant
16. Wallace
17. Oates

I personally think Glenn should play in the middle. He's our better defensive forward. Let Thaiday terrorize the fringes like he does in origin. Reed would do better with a proper 5/8th and change the game plan to 2nd phase play, not one up grinding football. We have a smaller and skillfull forward pack, lets use them to spread the ball and use backline movements, give Barba space. We have the a couple of the best off-loaders in the game in Parker and Gillett, why would 2nd phase play not be the constant game plan? I think Griffin is too scared of handling errors. Why before the tigers match, we were leading the NRL for the least amount. If our defense is as good as it is, surely risking dropped ball is better than risking no backline movement?!

IMO - Get Barba out of Fullback. Get Reed out of the Centres. Get Parker away from Prop. Get Lowrie away from the starting side.

Same team as last week no doubt.

I doubt Hook has the lofty goals of 2012 in mind so will probably forego long term fatigue management for short term wins.

FWIW, I can't believe Hodgo is playing Origin again this year. He's due an 8 week injury.

lowrie was in our best 3 players on saturday if you ask me.

not against moving reed on as i dont think he offers anything in attack.

barba needs a better platform laid in front of him, but he should also demand the ball more.

Yes it is legal if it happens while the player is attempting to score a try. As someone said though we should have gotten the ball back, but no penalty

IMO we should have scored. In that position 99% of NRL wingers score from there. That was poor ball security and nothing more.

I don't think that was poor ball security, IMO 99% of players would have lost the ball in that situation.

Are you serious...? Most wingers worth their weight in gold would have scored that try. Dont get me wrong. Vidot has been great and I love his hard work up the middle but he is a winger and wingers jobs are to score tries. In that catergory he has been woeful. He has only scored two tries. He has bombed just as many as he has scored.

If he was playing on the right side he may have scored more. But fact is when you are presented with an oppurtunity that I would call a certain try for one and a try that should have been scored for another then you have to take them.

Just wondering if Joe Ofahengaue will get to play during the origin period?

Being fair to Vidot, 99% of the time he himself might have scored that try. We'll never know because it was, purely & simply, the ONLY opportunity he had all game.

i doubt it. we've now played the one game we have with origin players completely unavailable as we have byes rnd 14 and 17

with thaiday back in the next week or two and parker/gillett very fit blokes i doubt they are rested in our games backing up from origin.

Yeah thats my point exactly. He has had limited oppurtunities this year to score tries. He has only scored two and IMO has bombed two. Thats a 50% strike rate. Not good enough. We arnt exactly setting the world on fire and we need to take every oppurtunity. I think if he doesnt make 100m+ a game his spot is taken by Maranta in an instant.

Id rather a winger who scores when he is given the oppurtunity and only makes 100m a game then a winger who drops the ball 50% of the time but makes 150m+ a game.

Like I said before. A wingers first job is to score tries. He hasnt done that well this year and needs to improve. If he imrpoves and starts scoring tries like Hoffman did last year then he will be one of the best wingers in the comp.

That's only valid in the in goal area. Having said that, pretty sure the second guy was just late or at the most simultaneous, and had really no influence in Vidot losing the ball.

Agree we should have gotten the ball back though, it was a clear strip and the ball went out from Simona's hands.

Yeah, he also needs people to pass him the ball to score tries...

im not in favour of dropping vidot but he's going to be tested against manly.
