POST GAME Round 12 - Warriors vs Broncos

It is amateur organisation but origin is the showcase and big cash cow. Don't fix what isnt broken. Whereas NFL analogy doesn't make sense for me. NFLhas small number of teams and small number of games as the dominant sport for 300 million people. Completely different scenario. I like origin in middle of the year but just needs to have a pause in regular season to accomodate it and stop it ruining ratings for NRL.
I agree, the NFL/NRL comparisons are pointless. The NFL is the #1 sport in the US compared to the NRL which is popular amongst the working class in two states and is ignored by most Aussies. Origin is very disruptive but is very vital to the survival of the game. That is just the way it is and that will never change. RL is not the type of sport that will ever appeal to the masses.

Our second try, I'm glad that worked out for Hunt.

He has tried that several times over the past few years with very little success, either the player receiving it would drop it, or they would miss it completely or they would get tackled before they could get away.

This time it worked out and it really is something we should do more often.

It was one of my favourite plays when Karmichael Hunt was playing.

Any injuries to our boys out of this game ?
That was my only real concern..... i didn't give us that much hope of a win, but still expected us to be competitive (which we were)

No injuries by the sounds of it. None mentioned by Wayne.

Expected outcome, but still disappointed in the efforts of our experienced and regular first grade players. Blair, Sims, Glenn, Roberts (despite his tries) and Kahu were all ordinary for the most part and our cobbled together spine didn't work much, if at all.

In hindsight, Hunt off the bench as a back up hooker, may have been the smarter option. His defence in the middle probably would have helped us more than what he did in attack (very little) after Waddell got hooked.

The 'Origin period' goes on for too long. I know it is a huge cash cow so they wont change the format but a once a year match would still give everyone Origin yearly but reduce the impact on the NRL. They can hype it up like Superbowl and then it's done.

Cant expect much when 7 starters are out and Pangai jnr is still out. All they did was give the ball to roberts and basically say 'here do fast run n that'. Should have easily just ran up the guts then spread left/right. Easy footy wins matches dont just throw it around like the panthers

Take the 7 best players out of any sporting team in history and you'll be hard up finding one that could still win a game. The first half was horrible but the second half they started to build a bit of momentum and had we not turned the ball over after Roberts second try we very well could have pushed for a photo finish.

As fans of our team we were obviously all wishful for a dream result in which we stil managed a win over a team with an international spine but unfortunately the result reflected the more realistic outcome: A decent enough performance that wasn't good enough to get the win. I don't think we embarrassed ourself at all.

I'm probably one of the bigger supporters of Kniko at 7 on BHQ but between him and Hunt it really is splitting hairs at this point and realistically you want both in the team somehow. Considering which players were missing I think the team that was picked for this round was the most logical. Benji played fine, though as usual he looked like a nightmare for his own teammates to predict and react accordingly too. In hindsight you could argue Kniko in the 6 would have been a better option but imo that would have weakened our dummyhalf more than it improved our halves. If Macca played I think we could have really pushed the warriors.

It was a 6/10 effort from a 4/10 team. Can't ask for much more than that.

It's also not just taking out 7 of the best frontline players, it's severing the team's spine without Boyd, Milford and Macca which effectively screws all combinations.

Kudos again to Benji for trying hard and doing well when Knik came on, and to Hunt for laying on a superb try for Roberts.

The lack of our regular structures and key playmakers gave the Warriors virtual carte blanche to play themselves into form and I for one won't ignore the fact that on paper, they are a very good team with Johnson and Foran up there with the best halves in the competition.

Sadly, we gave them the chance to play themselves and their side into some form - however, whether it keeps going for them will be interesting ...

I hate Origin, period.

Once the dust settles and SOO is over. This is how I'd like us to finish the year.

7. KNick
6. Milford

14. Hunt
Swap Hunt and Knik and that is how they will line up and rightly so. Won't win any comps with your idea.

I'm curious as to why Herman didn't get many minutes. NRL app timeline has him subbed off at 26min for Fai and not coming back until the 72nd for Arrow. Blair + Sims are not big metre-makers and without McGuire + Oates (and Pangai still out) missing, we needed someone to do that.

I understand wanting Blair + Sims on the furled as much as possible but we need to play Herman just as much imo

How many comps have we won with Hunt.....

oh wait.
Using a fill in HB over one that has been the team's #7 for four years and has guided his team to a GF and knows what it takes at finals time would be ludicrous. Which is exactly the reason why it won't happen.

Seriously we all saw this coming, we kept it respectable and got no injuries.

Completely new spine and second stringers. What were you expecting
Everyone expects an '02 Baby Broncos miracle every single time. In reality, that sort of occurrence is a once in a lifetime result. (Maybe twice).

Hunt channeled McCrone with his kicking game last night. His defence is way better than Kodi's, but that's the only aspect of his game I'd classify as clearly better: Kodi has a better short ball, better vision, better under pressure, younger (and has shown the ability to improve weak areas like his kicking), arguably better short kicking.

Milf, for all the shit he cops on here for whatever reason, has surpassed Hunt's kicking game and game management this year.

I'm curious as to when Kodi has shown he can handle pressure better and has better vision?
