POST GAME Round 13 - Broncos vs Sea Eagles

The post match with Wayne was a great watch the week.

Wayne and Hogos comments on Reed in particular were very interesting. Sounds like he's caused the Broncos a few headaches the last few years.

For those who didn't watch it Wayne was also asked what he thought of Hunt before leaving the Broncos and Wayne described him as a 'nightmare'.

What do you think he meant by a 'nightmare'

Hey!!

loved it boys keep it coming. Oh and on Reed who has had a great run of form, wayne in the presser was pretty critical and reluctant to give him a rap, which goes to show the expectations he has of his players, reeds weight and off field drinking must have put old Clint off and is making these guys prove themselves. GOOO THE MIGHTY BRONCOS

"He was a nightmare; hugely talented but totally unpredictable," Bennett said of a young Hunt. "It's a credit to the way we're playing the way he's playing to be honest with you.

Toovs looks like someone told him Boggo Road is being reopened and your first in line for some peno from one of the boys

Not sure why people are questioning booing DCE.
He was playing for Manly, everyone hates Manly.
Do you need any more reason?

Seriously, this was great stuff from Vidot.

Great strength to score despite the attention of 3 defenders. Lyon and Stewart are not terrible defenders.

This is what I like to see from wingers. Scoring tries in difficult situations.

like a few of us who have come out of the woodwork after this game, i'm a long time viewer but first time poster. Was at the game last night and my observations from it are:
1 - Macca's decision making has gone up another level this season. When you're there in real life you can see that he had the defence going the wrong way more times than not.
2 - Broncs defence is really good when we're in our 22, and when they have the ball in there 22. They very rarely made 10 meters in those circumstances. However, through the middle we let them have a couple of cheeky meters.
3 - Reeds 1 on 1 goal line defence is something to marvel at (hasn't he improved out of sight these last few games??!!?!)
4 - Milf & Hunt should never have gotten any of those three tries, when a team is scoring tries they have no right to score that's when you know something good is cooking.
5 - Hodges is looking lazy. When you compare how hard the other backs are working to create space/plays, Hodges isn't doing much and you can see this cause most of our opportunities are coming down the left. I felt the same way at Origin this year as well unfortunately.

lastly.... what to do about Maranta or Vidot? Maranta has been playing so well this season and is consistent as anything, but he wouldn't have scored that first try last night. Probably start one and bench the other depending on the game plan.. to be honest, I'd feel safer with Maranta against a top class winger

Welcome to the forum.

I can't see how you think Hodges is being lazy, Bennett asked him to not overplay his hand this year, and he's done that. We were doing well so he let's the young guys take more responsibility. Seems like a good captain to me.

What was great as well, was DCE's reaction.

Yeah that was a bit strange. Wayne made it quite clear he wasn't impressed at all with Reed prior to re-joining the Broncos and was very reluctant to talk him up for recent performances as well.

We're in an awesome position, but it'll be sad when the inevitable happens and someone, maybe more than one, has to move on. We kind of have an entire spare first-grade quality 2-5.

Left wing is Maranta's, he's safe as anything and his performances are a credit to his diligence. However he would never have scored Vidot's first try and Dan is a powerhouse on kick returns.

Left centre is Reed. A few glitches in defence earlier in the year but solid-as since. And exceptional in attack the last few weeks. However I feel He's benefiting if fantastic teamwork, and though Copley would have probably dropped a ball or two more than Reed, I think his step and explosive running may have ended with Dale with even better attacking numbers, hard as that is to believe.

On the right, Hodgo. Best centre over the last 15 years in the game. But again, looking from behind & in front of the play, he's just too slow to take advantage of the space that 2-3 years ago he would have torn through or set his winger up. Kahu really is the future here.

Kahu has right wing for now, and is deserving of a starting spot. But looks way better at centre. Though I consider Oates a forward, he is probably our best winger outright. 6 foot 6 and 110kg+ IIRC, yet has the speed of youth and is either a steamroller with the ball or a battering ram in defence.

no disrespect to Hodges, he is one of the best. But i was just in the best broncs tries of all time thread and he was involved in so many, he just doesn't seem like that player anymore. Maybe he is trying to underplay his hand, but i feel like momentum dies with him more than it should. Do love the niggle though
