Round 14 - Broncos vs. Tigers - Post Match Discussion

i cant believe thaiday said in the press conference that hannant should not be picked for origin. i just.. dont get it.. why say that? to the media??? after he got the points over woods, the other nsw starting prop in the game.

On current form, i'd rather Hannant there than Thaiday.

big game from parker, one of the best ive seen him play (8 offloads or so, insane, and each of them was actually good). mcguire had a great game too - 10m per hitup for 16 hitups, second most metres out of all broncos players behind hannant, who made 4 more metres off 6 more hitups. hoffmans a finisher through and through, wing is his spot.

but again, like i said after our titans/cowboys/tigers/saints wins, dont get carried away - wests were absolutely deplorable, and we still didnt put them away like others would have. most other teams wouldve put 50 on them last night. absolutely terrible. injuries or not, theyre in trouble. that gillet try and the prince try, omg lol. was like watching under 7s school GIRLS try and tackle. pathetic.

wallace yet again played terribly. could the guy get tackled with the ball on 5th any more often?

jack reed also wins worst kick ever award.

Look, it's nice to get a win after so many losses recently. It was nice to see some decent play from the forwards, and not just metre gainage, but some interchange of passing and some variety.

It was nice to see Scott Prince with a couple of nice touches.

But it was still worrying how soft the 2 Tigers tries were, the lack of urgency from Corey Norman at fullback, the lack of cohesion from Peter Wallace, and the fact that really we weren't tested. Any other team would've beaten us I reckon. Well, except Parramatta maybe.

The win will give the guys a bit of a confidence boost, but I hope the bye doesn't take whatever momentum they've gained away.

I still think the Warriors will touch us up.

Well, it was a new game plan - we actually decided to pass the ball .. and now we have 2, maybe 3 more 5/8's playing prop as well

He might've been playing it down as Mal may have already discussed with him the in and outs for game II. No use saying he should be picked (and I think he should be) when he already knows that he won't be, confused? I am...

…anyway that's just my take on his comments.

i dunno maybe. surely you just gotta look like you want your team mates to be picked for origin regardless.

I reckon with a better fullback Wal would look a lot better, too often he lays it out to Norman with overlaps galore but Norman has to act like a prop. Plz Kahu or Bond.

:loool: .....thanks.

Hmm I think if YOU look at my posting last nite before the game you would have seen that I predicted the following:

The lads to win by at least 14.
The match would BE a free flowing affair.
And, Lachie Maranta would be solid defensively on the wing.

Don't like to stroke my own trumpet, but, I was one of the few who was extra-emely confident we would hit form last nite!
To be fair you also predicted we'd win the last few games, you're going to be right eventually.

Lets see if we can replicate that effort from our forwards week in week out. Good to seem them offloading and throwing passes for once. Our defence wasn't that great still but it was an improvement. Our best is top 8 worthy but our worst is wooden spoon worthy. Consistency is our enemy and Peter Wallace as well.

Beadsy, YOU really seem to know your stuff. I have recently been taking notes of your postings and in THE majority of your postings, you make a lot of sense. At least there are some people here who know what they're talking about!

You goin to next home game fella?!

The Tigers came out with a game plan targeting Wallace by essentially getting Fulton to rush him every time he had the ball, much in the same way we did to the Cowboys when Gillett was charged with hounding Thurston.

The plan clearly worked, as Wallace couldn't cope with it, but for once we had the rub of the green with incredibly soft tries offered to us on a gold platter, and our forwards, in particular Gillett, Parker and Hannant doing a fantastic job, followed closely by McGuire. Thaiday wasn't even bad, but he was our worst forward on the night. Even Macca was relatively okay (still slow service), with good get out of trouble kicks at important times and a solid game overal. Hunt brought a bit of spark, but I'm seriously over having him on the bench. He needs to go to Qcup and re-learn the halves trade. Let Baptiste or Granville do that job!

In the backs, Prince had a few nice touches. Wallace played his worst game of the season partially for the above mentioned reasons, and because well... He ain't Thurston or DCE.

All the back except one were pretty good on the night, even Maranta did a solid job out there.

Last but not least... Can we please **** Norman off NOW!
Seriously, it was less painfull watching Wallace struggle, than Norman's laziness in the first Tigers try, and the way he managed to not pass the ball with all the time in the world to do so, effectively costing us almost certain tries!

A win is a win, and hopefully the bye will help creating some more resilience and build towards a better defence, because yesterday, we still managed to miss 28 tackles. The attack will get better as long as the forwards keep playing the way they played last night.

Still a very tough assignment in NZ against this Warriors side...

I'm huge advocate of keeping Norman on the wing but I'd be interested to see how he would go at fullback in the form he is in.

Left field, what do people think of Reed as a FB?

He has good speed, strength, defends well, offloads, passes, and does well under the high ball? Kahu to centre.

The main thing against Reed moving is the combo he has with Hoffa
