POST GAME [Round 15, 2023] Broncos vs Knights

Last week against the Sharks. The Sharks were pinged 4 to 1 and had 3 players put on report.

Fair.

I thought I'd do a bit of research to see if I'm being unfair, here are the stats in terms of penalties and six agains:

Round 1 - Panthers win 9-6
Round 2 - Draw 10-10 (1 Cowboy sin binned)
Round 3 - Draw 9-9
Round 4 - Broncos win 4-7
Round 5 - Broncos win 10-4
Round 6 - Draw 7-7
Round 7 - Broncos win 11-9 (1 sin bin to the Titans)
Round 8 - Draw 4-4 (1 sin bin each)
Round 9 - Broncos win 10-7 (1 sin bin each)
Round 10 - Sea Eagles win 5-3
Round 11 - Storm win 14-10 (with 3 Broncos players binned, 1 Storm player)
Round 12 - Draw 8-8
Round 13 - Warriors win 9-6
Round 14 - Broncos win 5-4
Round 15 - Knights win 7-5

So:
Broncos win 5
Opposition win 5
Draws 5

So yep, you have fair points on the refereeing. It is interesting though that there is a good reason of us feeling like we have not won a penalty count for a while. Aside from the Cronulla game, we haven't won one since round 9.

Also shows how badly refereed that Storm game was.

So what is it that changed round 9 from us being one of the better disciplined team to suddenly being one of the worst?

I think we will see a different Herbie when he goes to right centre.
Agree though, his last month has been average and he should be able to pass to a winger when needed.
I don't see Staggs setting up his outside man either, he is run first pass second as well.
Cobbo is lucky Walsh has a great cut out.

I thought that was probably Haas' best game of the year.

21 runs, 222 metres, 7 tackle busts, 4 offloads, 41 tackles, 0 missed.

That's just absurd.

I made this point post Origin- no one pays attention to his defence and how good he is at covering ground and closing space.

Including Origin he's got a clean sheet 10/14 games this season.

It's all changed since the storm game.

We went into that 3rd best for penalties conceded and they were one of the worst for the season... but of course that all flips on its head when you come up against a NSWRL darling team.

And now we've been struggling against the refs... despite the Vlando claims that top teams generally get the rub of the green because they're better

And yet we have more wins than any other team.
Ahh, there you’re. Wondering where you been?

Winning against corrupt officials & system is what’s making our wins more deserving & memorable.

If we had tackled the Knights the way they did entire game, the Reff and the bunker would’ve set the record for most 6 agains, multiple penalties & sin bins. Patty did tried in the opening minutes on Gamble guy and got penalized.

i wonder if it is the 6 agains making it seem worse

Going through it, we do receive more penalties than six agains but I don't have time right now to go back through with a fine tooth comb.

Hang it in the Louvre.

Whilst the stats are great and appreciate you taking time to do this, what I'd absolutely love to see is how many of ours are after a game is decided, and how many of our 6 agains especially are in bunches and on early tackles.

There has absolutely been games where in a short span we've had 3 six agains but all within 1 set on tackle 1 and we've questioned why players weren't binned. That stuff absolutely skews the counts.

Haven't we already established the rig is in for the Broncos to win the Premiership?

Was a solid crowd last night too, can't remember us being in that 5:30 slot on Saturdays very much recently.

With the right opponent that would have cracked 40k easy.

Assuming the next game vs Tits at 2pm on a Sunday will be a good turnout too.

The ref are idiots, but there is no "conspiracy" happening. We are just biased Broncos fans (which is fine). Most other forums after we beat them are saying the exact same things about us (about how the ref let us get away with murder, etc.).

I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that there has been a drop in refs calling out the slowing down of the ruck, and an uptick in penelties for being inside the 10 when defending on the try line. Must be another "crackdown" that will disappear after a few rounds 😉

As the pioneer of putting shit on Herbie for killing momentum - and the one who copped a barrage of invective for pointing it out - I still wouldn't drop him. The worst I'd do is swap him with Cobbo, but that might introduce other issues. His attack has always been self centred, but his defence is normally pretty good, but he's slipped a bit recently.

I think we have to endure his idiosyncrasies, and appreciate what positives he brings, until he leaves.

He has the skills but chooses no to use them .
He has offloaded in tackles a cpl of times lately though .
But WTF was he up to at about 10 mins to go ? Looked like he was knackered / injured . Jogged up to the defence and surrendered ?? Cpl of minutes later he`s back to his normal self again ?

Didn't get enough time to settle in, but I liked what I saw once he got over his nerves. His passing isn't as pretty as Billy's, but I prefer his placement. He keeps the forwards rolling. I hope Kevvie gives him more time next round, and ideally switches them around, with Billy coming on in the last 20 or so.
In the dyeing seconds I loved the way Smoothie kept competing .
He reloaded and went again 2 or 3 times . I like that attitude .

Just leave the grubbers out for the time being Tyson , Pls ?
