POST GAME [Round 16, 2022] Broncos vs Cowboys

Kevvie has done an unbelievable job but I think he is still learning himself along the way, I reckon if he had his time again he wouldn't have put Reynolds out there, I know Adam wanted to be out there but it should've been taken out of his hands. We haven't been THAT bad without him, we all know how good he can be for us but not when he's carrying an injury that is so easily targeted, it definitely influenced his game and his kicking game was a bit off

To put things in perspective, we took our team of busted and origin fatigued players, to the home of the deserving number 3 team, coached by potentially the coach of the year and lost. Given those circumstances I can accept the loss to a point, but what I am finding hard to accept is the 40 points against - If that makes any sense.

Stupid Cowboys. It's fine though, we beat the Cowboys twice in 2015...see how that turned out.

We kind of beat ourselves there. Hopefully Reynolds has gotten it out of his system now. Hopefully TMM is ok.

Bad day at the office ..yes Reno not fully fit and Stags quite again..Think we need Gamble back out there. EM just keeps thinking he is playing back yard footy all on his own….chip kicking on first tackle…WTF.

With Paix injured I wouldn't mind seeing Gamble back at 6 and Ezra getting a shot at hooker after 30 minutes or so. It's pretty obvious Turpin doesn't want to be there and Walters is starting to show why he has been let go by a few clubs. He tries hard but doesn't seem to have much of a football brain.

Ezra has to stay put for now. He's still finding his feet at 6, and he's improving by the week. The last thing he needs is an experimental positional shift. I would love to see Gamble at 9, but most folk here object due to his height. Tyson would be my 14. Tyrone Roberts is another name that should be in that mix.

Jake should be released. I don't have a strong opinion on Billy. He's not a problem, but he's still a stopgap for me.

I can't believe people suggesting mam to bench or out of the squad. He did some bloody awesome things and some terrible things last night but that's what you get with a rookie. The thing I was impressed with (apart from his defence) is he kept giving it a go. We need another kicking option so Reynolds isnt rushed (as gee is our designated ref for the year and he has decided to put the whistle away for offside with "quick line speed from opposition" this will only be worse). His kicking and options will improve, his fucking talent is undeniable.
I will definetly be in the minority but I am actually more excited about him them I am cobbo, and I am fucking excited about cobbo too.
I do think Gamble to the bench. Turpin brings nothing. I'd prefer to risk Walter for 80 mins if Gamble is DEFINETLY ruled out of playing hooker but at least his enthusiasm would give the team a boost, and he could come on for Reynolds if we've won a game or out of a game and just rest him while he keeps improving from the ribs. More than any other injury the paix one has hurt us. We have had shocking luck with hookers, even segyaro and Levi would have been good covers the last couple years, we let go of macca then Turpin got injured haha

The TMM injury will hurt us. Look at last night. I know there were other factors but our defensive line and even his last ditch efforts meant we didn't concede a single try outside of an intercept until he left the field.

Niu returning is good timing. He was ok last time but **** he needs to find a voice and grow a heart in defence. TMM has saved about 6 or 7 tries with his last ditch attempts this year. It lifts the team as well as saving points. A saved try is worth 2 in attack I believe. And our line looks so much better then it did when niu was there too so he obviously commanded the troops better. Niu gets thus chance and that's it. Last time. He has to decide whether he wants to be a career squad member or a career fullback. Play comfortable footy somewhere else with your cousin

Niu was fantastic in his very last half he played for us against Penrith. We were neck and neck with Penrith until he went off injured then we fell apart.

I'm actually keen to see if that was a one off good game, or if he really went to the next level.

I'm prepared to say it already: Tesi is not a fullback, and his reticence under the high ball makes him **** all use in the outside backs. He does have an electric turn of pace, which don't see enough. Not unlike Jamayne. He's basically Jamayne MKII. And Jamayne MKI is a turnstile.

If he wants to play NRL he might need to reinvent himself as a utility. IIRC he played halfback for Tonga in their win against GB. Otherwise, he's surplus to needs, I think.

Right now, I don't think Selwyn is much better back there, and like Ezra is still finding his feet in the NRL. I'm off the train to move him to fullback. I'm sure he could make a go of it, but I see a lot of fucking up on that road to enlightenment. I'm leaving him on the wing under Kotoni's tutelage.

Te Maire isn't the fullback we want, but he sure is the fullback we've needed. We saw why last night. We need to re-sign him pronto, and if Herbie wants 1, he's going to need to grasp it from his cold, dead hands.

I daresay TMM is off the Warriors next year, potentially to play 5/8 with CHT retiring.

Tesi, like Jamayne, has bursts of brilliance. His problem is they are bursts, and what we need from a fullback is rock solid kick defusion and last line of defence. That's where he's lacking.

Cobbo is going to be a gun fullback once he gets those concentration lapses out of his game and that will come with time (and once he fills out into his body), There will be some road bumps along the way but I can accept that. I think he might have another year on the wing then into fullback 2024 but I wouldn’t complain if they just chucked him there next year either.

That'd be a fucking very, very brave move.....
I don't necessarily think it would be a move that he's doing purely for footy and career aspirations... it would be more about getting to continue his career back in NZ (he's barely been over there since he came to Aust as a teenager).

He's 27 at the end of this year and Broncos would be looking to throw him say a $300k contract or so, because they have Cobbo and Ezra lined up as the long term options for the two positions he plays.

NZ on the other hand could go crazy and throw him a $500k 3yr deal to play 6 for them... it would be a very smart move if they did and it would set him up for life after footy.

In NZ he's likely to get a higher value contract and more years, to play out his career where he wants to and then set himself up on a farm, which is all he's after.

He's playing footy 3yrs after being diagnosed with a bleed on the brain... his priorities have changed in regards to his footy career.

Completely agree with all of that. But he's also very obviously enjoying himself at the broncos. It would definitely not be the same atmosphere at the warriors...
