Round 16 - Broncos vs Rabbitohs - Post Match Discussion

Norman has a long way to go IMO.

His organising and positioning needs a lot of work. He's still prone to the odd brain explosion (what the f**k was with running it on the last with only 5 to go inside our own half?!) & his playmaking skills need a ton of work.

Talent there but he's a diamond in the rough at the moment.

Will say, that kick he put into the in-goal off his right was really good.

definitely talent. he nearly busts the line so often on one out runs. if they get their support play sorted, which will put the defense in two minds, it will turn alot of these half busts into clean line breaks - as well as give the option to offload.

Exactly. He's confident and all that, but it's easy to look decent when you've got the athletic skills he does and while only playing for yourself. He doesn't have much in terms of playmaking skills yet, he needs to learn to direct players better and try to create opportunities for them, and not just himself.

What do you mean, You people??

Also what is this bullshit about Norman playing for himself. Ffs be serious please

God you people love to jump the gun on stuff that's said on here.

As do you.

I wasn't replying to what you said, merely giving my thoughts on Norman since you brought him up.

Alec is probably referring to how he continually runs it himself instead of looking for the pass. He's blown plenty of tries doing just that. However, as Porthoz said, Reed's positioning doesn't help him at times.

Reed was in front last night because Wallace was going to kick then changed his mind. Besides he probably knows he is not fast enough and needs a head start.:cheesy:

Yeah, pretty much what I meant. I want to see him to organise and set up his outside men more. His running game will be more useful then, when he can put more doubt into the opposition mind about whether he's going to pass or run. Our flat attacking style probably doesn't help though, our attacking line at times looks straighter than our defensive one.

I have to say (if it hasn't already been said) I am mostly excited about the Norman/Wallace combination. They are doing some fantastic things together, they've already developed a very good understanding of each other's game. Norman is impressing me every week, the bloke has quite a lot of natural talent and it's clear as day that he puts a lot of work into his kicking game at training.

Seriously, if Norman doesn't turn into a QLD representative (or even Aus rep) then I will be VERY surprised. To start with, he has all the physical attributes of a good league player. He's big and strong, broad shoulders. He LOOKS like an athlete. Secondly, it's already obvious that he has a lot of skill. Great hands, good instinct and he's quite confident for a kid.

He kind of reminds me a bit like Karmichael Hunt when he first started out. Similar attributes.

What a rubbish post.
Norman is over rated it's not even funny anymore. I said it from day one, all he has is a big boot. He's a poor man John Sutton. He's not a footballer, he's an athlete. I wouldn't even call him an athlete. He's not super quick or strong. When I think about it, he reminds me a lot of Joel Moon.
His game is based around dummying and going himself.

TLDR

Gagai>>>>>>Norman

It's all so simple, next years line up.

1. Reed
2. Hoff/Maranta
3. Norman/Hoff
4. Hodges
5. Yow Yeh
6. Hunt
7. Wallace

14. Baptiste/Norman

Hunt needs to come into 5/8, he can add depth to our attack and probably has the most attacking vision of our halves.

It'll take Norman a year to find his place within this Broncos side just like Adam Blair at the Tigers lol as Phil Gould would say.

On the strip penalty, 50/50 at worst

If the defending player has his hands on the ball and it comes loose, you risk a penalty - it's just that simple

Some of those calls will go your way and some won't - that's footy

I'd be happier to just leave benefit of the doubt on forward passes and just call the blatant ones.

Agree with this +1000

Have been thinking similarly for a while now

The forward pass rule is about receiving an unfair advantage

There's stuff all advantage in a ball that goes marginally forward

Rule of thumb: If you have to look at 3 replays to decide if a pass is forward, the team has not received any advantage
