Round 17 - Broncos vs Sharks - Post Match Discussion

I thought the control of the ruck by the refs was very very ordinary. Sharks lay all over us and rarely conceded penalties, yet we got out of the ruck quickly (perhaps too quickly) and conceded fast play the balls, which killed us in those first 3 tries. Other than that, quite happy with us hanging in there for the back end of the game, the injuries and lack of fresh legs cost us, as well as just too much inexperience. I also agree with the Norman issue, he has gone downhill massively since the begining of the season. I have always been an advocate for Hunt in the halves since the end of last season, and tonight has refinforced this.

Also does anyone else think Lui is a bit of a dud? I hope someone like Wallace will replace him in the pecking order.

3 of Cronulla's tries were dubious. In my mind, no doubt they got touches in the bomb contests that then touched other players.

And wade Graham was offside from that ricochet on the clincher.

Absolute pretenders. No Hope of progressing past the 2nd week of the finals

Why isn't a reportable incident a 10min in the bin - we get a player we can't use for the rest of the game and the teams that play behind us get the benefit of the suspended player..

I'm not worried about that result at all. We're missing seven players and had two of our weapons out for most of the game. More than anytime before, that was a genuine Baby Broncos side on the field. And yet we only lost by three tries. I've seen full-strength Brisbane sides go down by more than that.
The Sharks had a lot of intensity about them. Wade Graham is a weapon, too. He was great to watch. But despite all their enthusiasm they were still stretched to beat what was effectively a reserve-grade side.
What I liked about this game was that we saw some great young players like J Wallace and Whitchurch thrown into the hardest possible learning experience and coming out smelling of roses. If one of our players gets hurt down the track, we've got some fantastic depth this season.

2 things I take from that game.
1. it was ****ing frustrating to watch.
2. **** the NRL and the origin scheduling.

That's the thing however! As frustrating as it is for us Broncos fans to sit through the Origin period year in, year out, we never look at the positives of having such a representative heavy club. Our young "up & comers" (baby broncos) get invaluable experience which the club as a whole benefits from in following season.

There's no doubt that part of the reason our farm keeps producing gems is our junior culture, which is in part helped by young players having to play above their grade. It's akin to when you're in JRLFC and the better kids always get thrown up an age or two. Those players benefit in following seasons.

Also, premierships aren't won in June & July.

Too many class players out - more than half the team. A loss was always more than likely.

Nevertheless, what bothers me is that Norman was largely MIA when his play making contribution was so important, and his absence largely resulted in too much extra pressure on Wallace.

Our lack of real depth in the is also a worry. On tonight's performance, only Whitchurch was impressive. None of the others are really up to NRL level. Their defence was so soft.

Glenn and Maguire's preformance really showed what NRL level forward football really means. Macca's defence I thought was also good.

The baby broncos showed a lot of heart tonight. They put up a good fight against a much bigger, more experienced team and had them on the ropes until the last 10mins.A couple of rookie mistakes which is understandable but one thing that needs addressing is the final play on the last tackle. They need to put more pressure on their defence, put the ball up in the air for the wingers to contest and cut out some of those dummy-half runs into the opposition brick wall. That has happened a few times in the last few games.Theres no way the dummy-half can get thru but he still attempts it so gets tackled with the ball and ends up being a wasted play.

Another note, they should've pulled Hoffman off straight away and got the free interchange but the fools didnt.

Co-signed Shane Perry...

and pretty much every Bronco.

We had a great side.

From the sounds of it the spine was dissapoiting, it seems Maccas stupidity hasn't changed by going for the dummys on 5th tackle, however he made something like 50 tackles so good effort defensively.

Sharks were too good, as ive said before they've managed to beat quality sides without Carney and Gallen, which i dont understand how they weren't favorites to begin with. So no shame in losing to them.

However that final try was just embarrassing.
