I really like Herbie as a player, but it is concerning how little he looks to set up his winger. At the moment, he is probably best suited to the wing until he can develop that, but unfortunately we have no other options.

He needs someone to come back inside, he gets through the line but it's usually from coming back inside. Either needs a faster support winger or the half needs to support him better.

I would love Herbie next to Staggs on the edge, but we don't exactly have a decent replacement for him on the centres Atm.

Maybe next year when we get Brenko we can move Herbie to Coates wing.

I Feel his speed is kind of wasted in the Centres he rarely gets early ball, we definitely move the ball better on the right compared to the left, he will get more opportunities there for an attacking play.

Atm he is basically being used as a 2nd rower.

I have Herbie in the same camp as Tesi, Jamayne and Xavier. Tons of athletic talent and energy, but they have big gaps in their skill sets that makes them square pegs in every hole. They all show promise but none are good to go out of the box. Unlike Reece Walsh or Sam Walker, who only need polishing rather than reshaping. Maybe they never will be. That's a bit how it looks for Brodie right now. At least Xavier's gone so we don't have to worry about him.

They all need some serious specialized coaching and maybe some hard decisions.

I can't agree with that, I don't think Walsh and Walker look half as good as they are if they where in this team.

The roles would be reversed if they swapped teams is what I think would happen.

What I mean is Walsh looks like a fullback, who could easily switch into the halves. Walker is a born and bred half. What they lack can improve with experience. What Jamayne lacks at fullback and Herbie lacks in the centres, I'm not certain that can be taught. They're not that young. Can't tell with Tesi yet. When a fullback or centre has speed but lacks passing skills, next stop is the wing, followed by out the door.

I agree with what you're saying but I think Herbie is far more physically talented compared to the others you mentioned. I think he's up there with the best of them in that department and he could probably play a bunch of positions well if he put the time in. Seems to me he's best suited to fullback but I could be wrong.

It's because he is a winger, and is the reason he shouldn't be considered a long term option for fullback .

I dunno how many people thought about him for long term, I know myself was interested just to get Isaako from out of the 1 jumper.

I think you will find alot of Wingers and Centres have a background of playing Fullback, bit hard to say if Herbie will be a bad fullback without been given the chance to, the only time we saw anything was at the end of a game where we got flogged in and he looked better in support then Isaako did almost instantly.

Buckle up:

SUPER MEGA BONUS ROUND..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's a great runner and is big and tall , also has a good short kick.
I think he could be a great winger, also think Niu has the better skillset for fullback.

I know renouf is mentoring herbie and by the looks he hasn't played much centre before his natural position was fullback, haven't seen his ability to pass yet.. alot of his opportunities seem to come from hit ups and there has been a few times where he should of passed to the winger maybe switching sides of the field may be something that could help.
Coates was playing centres in his juniors for currumbin so who knows how much wing he actually had played before NRL
Issako played centres and 5/8 for cronulla 20s 5/8 for the junior kiwis and was fullback of the year in ISC has a load of talent but I don't know where his best position is
Tesi I don't see as our long term fullback he's had a couple ok games
Players like Walsh and walker need only polishing because that's always been their specialist position there not getting experimented in new/unfamiliar positions to them

Several times I've nominated Isaako for 5/8 in the past but the experts thought it was a terrible idea. They weren't upset with KHunt having a go though. Great way to keep someone involved or 'in the moment' if you like. I thought Isaako would do his best in a new role. I always thought he was a great size physically for the 5/8 role and I believe he can kick just about any type of kick. Passing wouldn't be an issue. Anyway, I thought he'd be worth a trial at least. Couple of games especially if we are mathematically out of the finals.

I thought both were putrid ideas but at least you aren’t paid to be a good coach.

I think Hunt has a much better skill set for 5/8 than Isaako does but his body just isnt up to the task these days.

Gold. Any reason for describing it as putrid? Or put it this way, is Staggs any better qualified? From what I can recall you weren't as unhappy with Staggs having a go.

Cause I thought that would make for the funniest comment.

I’m definitely not a fan of Staggs at 6 either. I think a 5/8 should probably play 6. I actually don’t think Staggs and Isaako would be much different there but if I had to choose 1 it would probably be Staggs just because I think he’s the better player of the 2.
