I feel for Oates. He's lost pace for sure, but..... He's better than most of our back 5 bar Cobbo at making hard yards. Arthurs, Mariner, Walsh all get manhandled in yardage. Compare that to Penrith's get out sets. It's night and day.

We need some bigger bodies. I've got no suggestions I'm just making the observation that Corey is kind of what we need in yardage.

It’s all the same from everyone here. We love Oatsey etc etc…
Honestly, it feels like the trainer leaving his fighter in the ring to keep taking punishment.
He’s fucked. On wobbly legs. Cut beyond repair and can’t see to defend himself. Don’t punish him, throw the towel in and let him ride off into the sunset. Don’t leave him out there to further embarrass him and have the fans resent him.
❤️
Its really nothing like that. People are salty because he's not as quick as he used to be. Thats about all that was wrong with his performance tonight. We are down to our bare bones really at the moment. Throwing unproven, not ready kids into the team is going to harm their development. Might as well pick a bloke who is a pretty steady performer and can handle the criticism over some of these young blokes until we get some troops back.

As Wolfie said what was so wrong about his performance? Oates is no rocket we know that but that's not what we expect from him.
Why did Penrith kick away from him all night?

Atleast Oates is giving it a red hot crack, have a look over the other side of the field.. the bloke who is the fastest on the field where was he on the chase when Madden did his hamstring?
If that was Oates it would be another reason why he cost us the game

We didnt play that poorly tbf, we were competitive, we just lack polish in everything we do.

My biggest concerns are this year apart from Carrigan, not one of our other big game players are standing up every week. Haas is looking a shadow of his former self, Reece has been in and out through injury and Mam has been very inconsistent. We also have a lot of money tied up in other players who aren't fulfilling their promise. Its going to be a tough end to the season.
It's pretty simple.

The difference is Reynolds. We've been looking for a halfback for decade's. What a difference Reynolds made.

Made everyone looks better than they actually are. Mam should be giving Reynolds a piece.

No Reynolds, No kevie.

Can’t fault his effort, but the reality is that he cost us the gc game and butchered tries tonight with his glacial speed

Seriously. If staggs played that game we win. Mariner or arthars would have burnt Penrith if they had the good ball Oates had. Good performance I thought. Looked like a well coached footy team at least

I think there were plenty more reasons than Oatsey that cost us the game. Weak defensive plays by 3 players for their first try. Kobe dropped ball then they march down the field and score. Piakura and Smoothy not competing for the ball and Martin taking it uncontested. Its not all down to one bloke not being quick enough.

Agreed @Battler. I don’t think anyone can question his effort?! In fact his work ethic and effort are some of the things we will all remember Corey for. Always welcome at the Broncos. Sadly his body won’t allow him to do what the team needs. The mind is willing, the body just won’t follow.

Gutted to lose, as always, but saw some effort and desire at least.

Down on sharpness, fitness, finesse, troops and luck though...

If any team can pull an 08 parra or 23 knights (pre finals) and go on a run though, it's us with some returning players.

Just trying to be positive

Oh, and anyone who suggests Sailor on the wing is geeing up. He can (sometimes) catch a ball but he's another who would start our sets off on the backfoot...
Even as I wrote it, I threw up in my own mouth. I added his name for dramatic effect. He’s been completely shite this year and couldn’t catch a cold.

Good to see mam muscle up in defence. Needs to be better in attack. Every time we lose our halfback he just does not deliver. He's on the money where he needs to step up in those moments and he just hasn't this year. Really disappointing.

Thought Billy walters bombs were better than maddens to be honest. I'd stick him at 7 and tell him to kick bot

I would rather Oates than Cobbo tonight.

Cobbo frustrated me all night, and aside from his lost speed, Oates played the better game and didn't make stupid errors like Cobbo.
Three times tonight I watched Cobbo run straight at markers to get tackled right on top of the previous play the ball, and in a few cases actually lose ground.

And don't get me started on his sideline run.
Send him to lay bricks for 2 weeks to show him how good he has it and to play with a bit of passion.

Took every inch of my strength not to turn it off after Penrith scored a try off several forward passes, and then we get one disallowed for a forward pass that clearly went backwards.

Disappointing result but hard to fault the effort tonight. We hung tough with an elite team most of the game and just lacked the polish to get on top… much better performance than last few weeks, but still a lot of improvement to go.

So much better this week.
Some of our D was brutal .
At least it was a step in the right direction.
Attack lacks any clarity beyond run towards the oppositions line.
We don't sell our block plays at all so they are an easy read. Hopefully Rogers improves this and takes his forwards to the line.
Our Reggie's have to find a way next week .
We'll probably be missing Cobbo as well as the others but Staggs and Riki back.
Origin has really fucked us over because we didn't bank wins early.

Someone catches the midfield bomb.
Cobbo doesn't run into touch.
Oates can actually run like a winger.
Payne picks up the ball a metre out.
Hetho doesn't drop it in tackle 2, 10 metres out.
At least 3 terrible last play options like the double short-side or pass to a flat-footed Mam.

Execute just half of these and we win the game.

Seriously though thee are some glaring issues:
Mariner cannot make metres in yardage - often less than 5.
Madden tries hard but is not delivering the direction, the guile, the kicking game.
Patty can't be the backup 2RF, it takes away from his link-man role and his middle defence.
Billy/Smoothy rotation is way down on 2023.
Hetherington needs to turn a corner quick smart. He has a simple role to run hard and find quick PTBs and whack a few blokes
I knew we would miss Herbies yardage runs, but I didn't think it would this glaring.
I thought Oates could do a 20 min role in the middle or back row. He looked promising in that role. If we are short a winger it has to be Karapani.
Looking forward to seeing Josh Rogers get a crack.
Riki owes the team some massive performances for that suspension.

Thanks to a special let’s call it “fitness program” the Penrith back five have size, pace and the fitness to go for 100mins at a time. That’s the real difference. We have all the speed too, but you’re right, the blokes just get rag dolled. In saying that, can’t have a bloke on the wing just coz he’s big and does nothing else. I must say that hit on Tago was 🫢🤤
