Round 18 - Panthers vs Broncos - Pre-Match Discussion

Parker and Macca are pretty much the backbone of the forwards. With them, we can control the middle and create room for Hunt, Whatshisname and Barba. Parker's offloads are so important,

Gillett, much of the time, kills it down the right hand side, offloads, makes Hodges play differently IMO, and overall, the team regains a lot of structure in the rucks, cohesion and some composure.

Without Parker and Macca, despite the efforts and speed of Granville, our middle is all over the place.

the season is playing out like the last 2-3 seasons. get on a winning streak before origin and everyone gets their hopes up. enter griffin ball post origin and we fail to win a game. expecting a hiding from the panthers

Even without Parker, McCullough, Gillett, we should've beaten the Sharks, easily.

I can't see us beating a top 4 side like the Panthers at the moment, will be backing Panthers in this one, unless there's some changes at the Five-Eighth position.

This will be a tough one. Hodges won't back up but the other Origin players will if they get through the game unscathed.

and we were !!! 22-0

Still finding last night hard to come to terms with ...... fucken grumpy as

Some **** looks the wrong way at me today and it'll be on !!

I see no reason to persist with Hoffman and other dead weight in this game. It's gone on too long.

Hodges won't back up as we know. Assuming Parker, Gillett and Thaiday all back up, my team would probably look something like this:

1. Hoffman
2. Vidot
3. Reed
4. Copley
5. Maranta
6. Barba
7. Hunt

8. McGuire
9. McCullough
10. Parker
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
13. Gillett

14. Granville
15. Hannant
16. Oates
17. Molo

This is the team I'd like to see
1. Barba
2. Vidot
3. Reed
4. Copley
5. Hoffman
6. Hodges
7. Hunt
8. Mcguire
9. Macca
10. Parker
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
13. Gillet

14. Hannant
15. Oates
16. Wallace
17. Hala

Will be coming off Origin III so side will look something like...

1. Ben Barba
2. Daniel Vidot
3. Jack Reed
4. Dale Copley
5. Lachlan Maranta
6. Josh Hoffman
7. Ben Hunt
8. Josh McGuire
9. Andrew McCullough
10. Corey Parker (c)
11. Alex Glenn
12. Sam Thaiday
13. Matt Gillett

14. Todd Lowrie
15. David Hala
16. Corey Oates
17. Jarrod Wallace

At least that is what I expect.

Personally, I'd treat the bye as an opportunity to really look at Kahu, Nichols or Taylor - try and help the kicking game while shifting Hoffman to the right wing in place of Maranta and play around with the bench.

Nicholls is just back from injury, came off the bench last week.

10. Parker
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
13. Gillet

14. Hannant
15. Oates
16. Wallace
17. Hala

Its a fair team but 4 forwards on the bench really limits your options. I'd agree with one change, Granville for Wallace, you really do need someone who can cover the halves, centre, wing, lock, hooker( naturally ) fullback. Of the ones on your bench only Oates can cover a few positions.

1. Barba
2. Vidot
3. Copley
4. Hodges
5. Hoffman
6. Taylor
7. Hunt
8. McGuire
9. McCullough
10. Parker
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
13. Gillett

14. Oates

One can dream..

quick question do the people calling for Taylor, Duncan P, Strasser, Nicholls etc. actually see them play or just put them in their teams because their name isn't Hoffman

I've seen them play enough over the last 6 weeks to know that particularly for Taylor and Duncan P, I'd be happy to put them into the first grade side and give them a go.

How is that not a good enough reason?

I watched Ash play last week on TV, he did more playmaking in that one game than Hoffman has done all year, and it's not like Hoffman is winning us games with his defense or running game.

I am expecting a loss in this game.

I am expecting Wallace and Soward to carve us up.

The Hoffman 5/8th experiment has to end.

If I'm being completely honest I'm not expecting to win until Spudman is no longer 5/8.... so not until next year

Really missing Macca and Parker's lock down in the middle.

Hunt was so pissed off. The guy cannot carry the entire attacking duties for the team. He pretty much single-handely put us up 22-0. I watched the last 15 minutes of that game. I still can't fathom how we lost. So many games this year have been the same. It will hurt us.

If the rest of the team (read: Hoffman, Barba) can't contribute something to get us over the line from that position, there's no point getting hopes up for finals.

The bye coming this week is the worst possible time.

i'd be pretty surprised if we got up here.

panthers are a dogged team that compete for 80 mins. they have blokes who contribute all over the park rather than stand out players, and they seem to always come up with points in one way or another.
