[Round 19, 2021] Panthers vs Broncos

It was good to see the players add some respectability to the scoreboard but at 18-0 Penrith had the game sown up.

There is no secret to Penrith. They'll just kick it to corners and then swarm the defence and starve them of territory. Brisbane got some opportunities on the back of some lucky bounces and poor play on Penrith's part but the playmakers just didn't show enough trust and didn't ask enough of the Panthers defence until it was too late. They rarely earned the right to spread the ball and it took them too long to rediscover the inside pass. Mitch Kenny should have been their target from the get go.

Did Paix pick up an injury? It's the only explanation behind him coming off when he did.

I wanted to use the live game thread to pin-point my frustrations with the general referring. I wouldn't call them howlers but the general officiating is just so sloppy. It's always to the benefit of the team that offends the most as well.

Paix had a moonboot at his feet in the sheds, possible injury or just precaution

I don’t mind palasia but to me everyone else is better and Riki. With proper halves and a full preseason for Niu I still think this team will be decent next year
Hetherington isn't a hooker, put him at lock and paix at 9 and Carrigan on the bench.

Croft and Gamble are not first grade standard halves at all.

Gamble has good energy, and a bit of shithousery that was fresh to see, but he is not a starting half at nrl level.

Herbie needs to move to wing. Use his speed on kick returns.

Our attack in general was pathetic. We look like a team who knows we need to utilise Staggs to be any chance of scoring tries by just giving him early ball, and we refuse to give him fucking early ball.

66 missed tackles and simply running hard was the key to 2 tries....

Hetherington is actually a hooker, do your research. And even if he wasn’t he was significantly better than Turpin and paix at dummy half. Additionally he isn’t that good of lock

****. Off.

I cannot fucking believe we let Lodge go, let alone are paying him to play for another club. Just utterly braindead but not the least bit surprising.

Well who would watch this game and actually agree to taking Flegler off us?

He is atrocious.

Positives

1. We were in the game until the final second.
2. We had a try disallowed and Croft duffed one over the line.
3. The first half defence was our best for years.
4. We hung in after they scored, and didn't let the game get away.
5. We finished stronger than them.
6. We don't miss Lodge or TPJ in defence.

Negatives

1. Other than Staggs, our entire spine and backline is subpar in attack.
2. Farnworth is not building on his early promise. He's looking more like a dud every game.
3. We still don't support Haas. Turpin doesn't even look for the offload.

Oates was fine apart from the dropped pick up. He just doesn’t get enough ball in position to do anything good.
He’s never going to get any good ball playing outside Herbie

When you look at the stats for both sides, we should have won.

We were better in all of the key areas, except the scoreboard.

We looked good when we decided to play a bit of footy. I thought Kennedy got us going when he came on and Hetherington looked decent at dummy half also. Was keen to see Paix for another stint. He looked way better than Turpin.

To be honest. I'm pretty happy with the effort. Still a couple of defensive issues and the halves struggled, but Penrith were allowed to stand in our backline all night and got given leg ups when needed by a corrupt **** of a referee.
