Round 19 Discussion

This is a lesson to the Raiders to ALWAYS play to the whistle.

I'm pretty sure if the touch judge raises his flag and the ref puts the whistle in his mouth I'd stop playing as well..

The thing that really irks me about that try is Sutton send it up as No Try. You cannot tell me that the Bunker had enough evidence to overturn based on the footage we were seeing. If the ball didn't touch the Sharks player, it's a miracle of physics.

This is where the fine print comes into play.

The bunker only needs sufficient evidence. No replay showed the ball touching his hand or arm and there was no change of direction of the ball which would usually happen after a touch.

That's grounds enough for them to overrule.

Canberra got deadset buttraped by the officials and it's basically ended their season

Harsh. The touchie puts his flag in the air so all relevant players in the area react accordingly. Raiders hard done by IMO

The touchie raises his flag and then drops it immediately. It's the refs call, though. They were playing on and hadn't blown the whistle. Katoa came back in and strolled over because Bateman was just standing there pointing to the touchie. Sutton didn't actually put his whistle to his mouth until Katoa was already through.

You don't see the top teams do this. They play until that whistle is blown, even if they know the ref is going to stop play.

Once it went to the bunker, the video ref couldn't rule on what the touchie did. Ramien never touches the ball and the no try decision is overturned.

The bad decisions came after that when the Raiders were denied a try because of a forward pass that wasn't forward.

You know the play should have stopped for the glaring forward pass that no one in commentary seemed to notice. Yes, I'm referring to the touchie half flag play.

Irrespective of whether it was the correct decision or not, what is the point of a touch judge if they're just going to be outright ignored?

The position is redundant now that we go to the video ref for about 95% of tries. Even when you see players score in the corner and the touchie flags that they went into touch, it still goes up to be checked. Even if the touchie says it's all good, they didn't put their foot out, it still goes up to be checked.

I totally agree the raiders got dudded by the refs but surely another season like this would be the end of stuarts coaching career. The refs didnt lose them the other 10 games so they didnt end the raiders season.

Surely stuart will realize after his career finishes this “its everyone elses fault” mentality is bad for a team. They have to take ownership. Its fine for fans to have a whinge (although i hate how much the media goes on about it), but the coach should be sending a message to the players that they have 79 other minutes to win the game and not be in the position where one or 2 calls loses them the game...

I don't have a lot of time for Ricky, after all NSW continually pushed him as being a better half back than Alf which was obvious nonsense. However, the points he made in his presser were very astute.

The refs totally stuffed a complete half season with their misguided plan to nitpick every tackle, pass, and play the ball to such an extent it totally ruined our game as a spectacle. Human nature dictates that any change has to be gradual otherwise it causes unnecessary unrest and displeasure. The NRL lost the plot and as a result turned away thousands of disgruntled supporters.

Last night we had a fifty point game, a try scored by TPJ that was worthy of Thor or Superman, a chip and chase that saw the Jet burn the whole field for pace, not one but two interceptions by Knik and all the panel talked about was poor reffing decisions. Instead of talking up our game Joey and Fatty spent most of the night lamenting poor ref decisions. Ch 9 commentary and obvious bias is as much to blame as the refs. Every game they preface their commentary with ' the refs have the hardest job of all but -' and then proceed to bag the shit out of every match official. I'm not saying they should not commentate on contentious issues, but how about some decent promotion of the game. TPJ's thirty minutes last night will sit with me for weeks. The panel spent seconds covering his exploits and hardly acknowledged his almost superhuman effort.

Would it have been different if the Panthers had scored 50? Well Johns did tip Benny's reshuffle to be a failure and Panthers to win comfortably. So, maybe just maybe he had an agenda to push. It's not the refs that are killing our game, it's the fully paid up whingers on ch 9 that profess to love the game that are doing it the greatest disservice.

To rub salt into the wounds of the Raiders, Sharks fans threw eggs at the Raiders bus. Stay classy Sharks fans.

Great points and couldnt agree more! Ive watched footy games the last few years with lots of people from different countries and different sports and without fail every single time they mention and ask why the commentators are complaining about a ref so much for, why dont they just get on with commentating. They go on about it for 10 minutes after the decision then go on about it at half and fulltime, then it gets in the paper the next few days and on the tv for a week.

Really ? Judging all the fans by the actions of one or two ? I mean, you have to bring the eggs so likely one guy brought a a dozen, I'm sure their weren't hundreds of fans ,all armed with googies.

James Hooper on Triple M re the fifty point hoodoo. " I don't think it applies to the Dragons because they were missing their Origin stars and it doesn't apply to the Panthers because they've being playing so good all year".
I don't think that's how hoodoos work, James.
