POST GAME [Round 2, 2022] Bulldogs vs Broncos

Yeah and if they called the first knock on we would have been attacking their line in the first few minutes. Likewise if any of the late hits on Reynolds were called. One call that is 50/50 at best going our way doesn't come close to the blatant bullshit we endure on a weekly basis. But now we got a call our way a week before we play the Cowboys. I'm actually nervous about how badly we will be bent over this week.

And the Cows were reffed equally to their opposition, this never happens without things over correcting the week after.

I think we were bent over in that game last night actually

We got the obstruction call but what else did we get? I honestly can't remember a single call where Bulldogs' fans are entitled to feel hard done by

Clear knock-on in the first set, nothing
Reynolds gets hit late on a kick, TPJ gets put on report 2 plays later, no penalty
Cobbo was clearly tackled in the air, he pulls back on the tackle but he absolutely made contact in the air, nothing
Then later in the game, the Bulldogs actually receive a penalty when Carrigan makes simultaneous contact with the kicker

41% possession as a result, 6-3 penalty count in their favour..

It's absolutely insane to me that they haven't come up with a fair way to penalise a team when they notice a penalty after the fact. We had our halfback get hit late early in the game but the team the Bulldogs play next week have more of a chance of benefiting from it. How is that fair? Why couldn't they just notice that Carrigan tackle on the next tackle instead?

21: 20 for Annesley's explanation.

First section just covers the strip.

25 mins

OK this is a reminder that it actually pays to watch things for yourself instead of accepting second hand accounts. Annesley does break the play down and clears a lot of elements for the Broncos (Niu receiving the ball on the outside etc.). He does remind fans that referees do have the power to make a discretionary call, but I think he could have used 19. 1 (b) to clear Oates since Burns makes contact with Oates after Oates has already run past him. I think Oates could have run further away from Burns to make it a complete non-issue .

As a fan I'm that confused with the obstruction rule I automatically think that if contact is made on the outside shoulder 99 times out of 100, obstruction. I'm not alone either and even the video referees seem confused as well which is why they're often admitting their mistakes.
I'm assuming NRL360 will take Barrett's side though.

It's a nothing incident that has been cleared by Annersley but they'll take it for some Broncos click bait, when in reality it should be all about Barrett making excuses and blaming the refs even though he had a mountain of things in his team's favour and could only get over for 2 tries.

Another couple of observations from last night's game. The captains challenge was only used to ensure we got another few minutes to get air into our lungs for the coming onslaught. I think patty's run to pressure the kicker was excellent to be honest, but what I have to ask was where was this sort of pressure on the kicker for the rest of the game.

Burton had so much time on every kick he was virtually using a slide rule to workout where his kick projection would land. That needs to be sorted tout suite too.
Patty ran down Averillo who wasn`t standing as deep as Burton was for the torpedo bombs .

In this case, I'm fine with a coach voicing their concerns since that try proved to be the difference.

I also disagree with it being a 50/50, the referee 100% got it right with Burns being the one to initiate contact after Oates had already run past him.

However I don't buy into this conspiracy talk and it just comes across to me as sour grapes. Every fanbase feels like they're hard done by and can point to examples of calls going against them. We're no different, I'd suggest we just notice it more because the team has been so poor lately these calls tend to have a bigger influence on matches than they otherwise should.

New drinking game ... skull whatever's in your mitt every time Ennis calls Oates ... Coates. Maggoted by HT.

mate maggotted every time Oates does something really good/bad

Another call was Addo-Carr being escorted off the ball, he sold it like Scott Hall (rip).

The crowd made all sorts of noise the ref looked like he was easily persuaded by the crowd

On Herbie's second try, the reverse angle clearly shows Burns stepping into the path of Oates and initiating contact.

Try. Not sure why there is an uproar about it.

He thought Oates was getting the ball and realized his ****-up pretty quickly, but by then it was too late.

End of the day burns was never catching Herbie contact or not

Is it just me or does it feel so much better to get the win when the dogs were celebrating like they won the grand final after every single positive for them? I mean JAC crowd surfing after a try when you have more than 30 mins left?

I think we handled TPJ and the dogs well in that they tried to start some niggle (which they are a team that tries to feed off the emotion in a game) but we didn't bite.
