After a disappointing start to the season, Brisbane travel down south where they play bitter rivals St. George Illawarra in what should be a heated contest. Brisbane showed what they were capable of in an impressive twenty minute flurry but were handed a complete Rugby League lesson by Manly in their opening encounter of the season. Can Brisbane learn from those mistakes or are they in for a season of hurt?

well this will be a real test of where we are at. dragons tipped by most for bottom 4.. we really need a W here to even have the confidence to challenge hte storm in week 3.

I would not be inclined to panic too much just yet. Leave that until about the sixth round.
At present I would keep Reed in the side which would also give Kahu a couple of Q cup games to get his timing right.
The only other change I would contemplate would be to change Hunt and Prince. Prince would come on and Hunt go to hooker at that stage then get a 5 minute break before returning to the field. Prince may make better decisions in defense while fresher.
You might even find Hunt is a decent half.
For those of you saying Hannant should come back into the starting side, well I was there last night and he provided nothing coming of the bench. He may be struggling for a spot in the 17 if we did not have an abundance of props injured. Dodds hurt a few Manly players and I still think he is the better to partner McGuire for the start of the match. Ideally suited to the rugged start of a match

The run of penalties manly conceded flattered our first half, both before and after that run we looked slow and completely out-muscled, especially upfront.

Could be a good game to get some confidence back, Dragons are awful.

I'll be very concerned if we fail to win this one.

Bomb to Beale all night. The easier the bomb the more likely he's going to spill it :scared:

I don't think it's worth making any changes just yet. Give the team a chance to bounce back. We need to work out how to use the bench.

I don't think I'd change the 17 much at all. Maybe consider a big bopper on the bench instead of Hunt or Stagg but otherwise I'd just make alterations to the side.

Wallace & Prince must swap sides of the field in defence. That attempt on DCE was terrible, but Wallace is still comfortably a better defender than Prince and we need that to help out Hodgo.

Gillett to the bench with either Thaiday slotting into the second row (Hannant or Dodds starting) or Stagg going into the second row. That right fringe needs some protecting.

So basically...

1. Corey Norman
2. Josh Hoffman
3. Jack Reed
4. Justin Hodges
5. Lachlan Maranta
6. Scott Prince
7. Peter Wallace
8. Josh McGuire
9. Andrew McCullough
10. Mitchell Dodds
11. Alex Glenn
12. Sam Thaiday
13. Corey Parker

14. Ben Hunt
15. Matt Gillett
16. Ben Hannant
17. David Stagg

18. Scott Anderson
19. Jarrod Wallace

Wallace would be my pick, but I can see Sanderson getting the nod.

I'd like to see other team line-ups. There were some interesting ones in the Manly post game threads but I'd like to see some of our other posters speak up.

Agreed about Wallace and Prince swapping Pete. As much as I'd prefer Prince feeding Hodges the ball rather than Lollalace, we can't have 3 terrible defenders lining up together on that right edge. They were exposed terribly last night. Gillett back to the bench is a must too, he is far from a starter at the moment.

I wonder how far away guys like Oates or Timu or whatever are from entering the FG plans?

Oates is currently injured but Timu should be there abouts based on yesterday.

I'd really like to see our halves combine more in offence and switch around the field pending on the situation. It's only in defence I believe they should be anchored to a specific side of the field.

I'd like to see a classic 1st and 2nd receiver halves pairing, but it seems to have almost completely disappeared off the face of the earth. I'm pretty sick of the split halves thing. Maloney played a true 5/8th role early on in the Roosters game and it was pretty effective. But then they went away from it once the Bunnies started dominating.

I really like this team BP and as you said another big man instead of Stagg would be better if Stagg is going to be used as he was Friday night. I am a fan of a runner and a defender starting as props so Dodds gets my vote to partner McGuire as well

I want to see Macca get some more game time, we look better with him calling the shots.

My side would look like this:
1-Norman
2-Hoffman
3-Reed
4-Hodges
5-Kemp
6-Capewell
7-Prince
8-McGuire
9-McCullogh
10-Dodds
11-Glenn
12-Thaiday
13-Stagg

14-Baptiste
15-Gillett
16-Parker
17-Anderson

Again, I have no room for Wallace, Hunt or Hannant, why carry passengers when u can use someone who might actually have an effect? But obviously "Hook" would never be this pro active or clever but that's for another post isn't it.

I'd say that's mostly because Hunt is a terrible hooker. Get a proper hooker with good service there and it wouldn't be so bad.
