Round 2 - Broncos vs. Dragons - Post Game Thread

Hodges with a bad hammy is still quicker than Reed the Need 4 Speed

Sucks about McGuire. Luckily Hannant bounced right back tonight after his mediocre showing against Manly.

I don't think it helped that Hodges was off for 20 minutes before he did his hammy.

You would think that someone as injury prone as Hodges has been, that he would have been keeping warm...stretching/exercising, while he was in the sheds?

i dont mind the shuffle, its something different. come on we've been crying out for something different from hook and he tries something adn we shoot it down?

it also theoretically means a stronger defensive line not having hunt there. although hes not too bad anyway

hodges chased down morris. impressive. hammy injury sucks though.. heard it will be 1-2 weeks on the sidelines. not good news when we have to face the storm next and they are clinical with their outside back set plays.

Why not....?

Other than Hodges doing his hammy (which I don't think he was playing fullback at the time?)

Hodges at FB, Wallace at dummy half....Prince at half and Norman at 5/8 was working pretty good.

One of the better games from Wallace I think we've all seen for a looonnnnng time......

I don't like it. Gillett in the centres? No thanks. It isn't a long term option so why bother with it. No Hodges is injured because he isn't up to the extra running a fullback has to do. Shuffling your halves around mid match is never going to work. If he wants Hodges at fullback just name him there.

I agree......I'm not a fan of Hodges going to fullback.

But I did like Wallace at dummy half....

Gillett will get found out in the centres. He was up against a woeful Cooper tonight. Give it a game or two and he'll start arm grabbing out there

I thought we really found our 6 and 7 for the next 3 yo 4 weeks tonight. Prince at 7 and Wallace at 6 really looked good inside 20. Only Saints I know but a flicker of hope for mine.

Gillett was lucky he didn't have to make any decisions in defence, everyone was running straight at him. He's a good front on tackler, but he gets found out easily.

First off **** nathan fien that dirty grub!!! Secondly that was an absolute 180 from last week. The whole team looked good but special mentions to Ben Hannant and Josh Hoffman, Hannant was absolutely awesome and put his hand up whenever he was needed and Hoffman looked dangerous with nearly every touch. Our forwards did really well to get to there fronts to give us a roll on and in defense we were much better at working them to there backs. Our line speed was another major improvement, especially on there line after defending so long to still be getting up in there face and putting pressure on them was awesome.

Who got into fourex's account?

A lot of things to like there. I thought it was a massive effort from Parker, Gillett and Wallace tonight. Really happy with Hoffman. Norman needs to learn how to return a kick if he is going to play fullback. Maranta isnt fg material yet...

norman played like he wants another broncs contract ;)

he made a fair few decisions tonight pretty much all of which where the right as far as i can remember

We weren't great by any means, but **** me, I'm proud of them. They had EVERYTHING go against them - bullshit penalties, Hodges sin binned and injured, McGuire injured, Dragons ALL the ball - and yet not only won, but won by 16. Ultimately I don't think either team will make the top 8, but it's one of those wins we'll look back on in September and think "that was a season highlight".

As for replacing the injuries, I think Hunt will come back onto the bench. I don't think the shuffle helped tonight.
And I really hope Kahu simply slots in for Hodges. My anxiety would be you'd have Prince, Kahu and Maranta together on the right though. Defensively that doesn't instill me with confidence.

My positivity for our prospects hasn't changed though. I still don't think we'll make the 8, and Storm will show us just how far away from the contenders we are next week. Seriously it'll be ugly.

Let's not get too carried away. The Dragons have one of the worst spines and centre combinations in the game. Our effort was great.. but they didn't ask many questions. Bring on next week!
