POST GAME Round 2 - Sharks vs Broncos

TBH beside his 2012 season and all stars game in 2013 Barba has always been a hit and miss imo. He scored 23 or 24 tries in 2011 but he was still a problem as he let about 3 times as many in. Beside his speed his other big attribute is the ability to back himself and he has little confidence as his suspension at the start of 2013 has knocked him and it will be interesting to see if he can get back up again. Always had a feeling this would happen to him eventually, those players who just have speed and that's it pretty much always drop out sooner or later.

2012 was a fluke....Barba will never produce that kind of game again.

He won't be around in 2017.

Gotta give an honourable mention to kahu who caught every bomb perfectly and came up with some good defence as well

also Wallace, he had some very good runs and some excellent tackles, I think he's earned a spot for next week

how isn't Oates in the side every week it's beyond me be in the forwards or the backs he's a great player

What is worrying is that we are not making metres and conceding way to many. Also we may have made less errors than the Rabbitohs and the sharks but they aren't doing it against their own try line like we seem to do. What's happens when you give JT that amount of ball next week. Attack definitely needs some work but still good win

Big props to Kahu honestly, after last week, he showed massive confidence going into every bomb, was never hesitant. He's going to make a brilliant winger when Boyd returns imo, great runner of the ball, a poor mans Hoffman with more upside is the way I'd label him at the moment.

I thought he attacked pretty well, looked like he was going to score twice and looked a lot like he was going to break the line.

Did anyone notice in the final few minutes the clock didn't restart on two separate occasions? No one mentioned it, and I thought it may have been a glitch, but the second time it definitively stopped, and then resumed, adding time to the game.

One of the most low-skill games I've ever watched, I'd just like to thank Gallen for hogging the ball starving Fifita from having any impact in the game  Arsey tries get the job done against a pack I thought would trample us.. I'll take it.

Regarding Milford, he had a heap of half-breaks that almost came off.. it's a shame there's no fullback to be seen shadowing him in support.

I must be a tougher marker on Milford than the rest of you. Because i wasn't overly impressed with him.

He was standing too shallow all night allowing the defenders to be in his face all game.

He dropped at least 3 balls.

His passing didn't really hit the mark.

The one good thing i saw him do was that tackle on Beale that forced him into touch.
----------

Onto the rest of the game.

Kahu was far betterthan last week, he looks like he is getting some confidence back, hopefully he keeps improving each week until he us shunted to the wing when Boyd returns.

Wallace had his best game ever, he really impressed me off the bench, hopefully he keeps his spot.

Maccas kick at the end of the game show why he should be kicking more from dummy half ... Especially when we need a long clearing kick.

Hunt was again really good. He just needs some variation to hus kicking game. That kick that lead to the Maranta tdy was his best of the night and a good start.

Thaiday was much improved and I think it is best for us if he remains on the bench as an impact player.

Relieved is how I feel. Felt the sharks were one lucky bounce away from a try that might have been enough to steam roll us.

Improvement on last week. Wallace was unreal. Silly penalties coming off the ground is his trademark though, needs to work on that.

Kahu will hopefully get a shot in the arm from that performance. Wonder if Milford would have found the line from FB on those two half chance kahu got.. ? Academic I guess.

We still don't look like making a line break any time soon.

Milford looks incredibly frustrated. How can we manage to give him shitter ball than he got at the raiders.

I don't think Milford is frustrated with the ball he is getting. IMO he is down in confidence and just one line break in a game may just kick start his season. Twice last night he went within a fingernail of opening up the Sharks

My thoughts:

1. Kahu - Best game he's had in a Broncos jersey. Very safe at the back for the most part and pretty good in attack, does need to remember he has a winger outside him at times. 8
2. Maranta - I rate him and tonight he again showed how much he has improved. Is starting to look confident enough to use his speed. Only a matter of time before he has a star performance. 7.5
3. Reed - Turnstile in defense at times and becoming a target of other teams. Tried hard and and his stuffed up offload luckily lead to the first try. Needs to improve quick or Copley will take his place. 5
4. Hodges - A real captain'a performance. He did let in one line break close to the line but did enough to stop a try from it. Shut down everything thereafter and a constant threat in attack. Striding out better than we've seen in years. 8
18. Oates - Most of us love this kid and he has amazing agility and skills for a man of his size. He runs great lines too. A number of strong kick returns and scored a try off a difficult pick up. Please keep him in the side. 7
6. Milford - No one can deny his effort that's for sure and he pulled off a number of key tackles. Showed some glimpses but a horrid night with his hands. He will get better. 6
7. Hunt - Great to see him attacking both sides of the field and an improved kicking display. He took control of the game late and also pulled off a number of clutch defensive plays. Gun player, so glad we resigned him. 9
8. McGuire - Another high quality display from the man who should be playing for Qld and Aus. Does everything at a hundred miles an hour and great to see Bennett giving him a licence to use his tremendous skill set. 8
9. McCullough - Yes he does a mountain of defensive work which is great for a backrower but he is our hooker and his service continues to be too slow and too inaccurate. Also made some stupid errors. Lodi looked so much more crisp when on. McC wasn't even there to do his job on several noticeable occasions in attack. 5
10. Blair - I've been more impressed with Balir than I thought I would be so far this season, except tonight. I don't care how many tackles he made, 1 hit up for 7 runs in the first thirty minutes from your starting prop is unforgiveable. Didn't notice him after that all night. 5
11. Glenn - Made a couple of errors that were noticeable but has started the season extremely well which always happens when a player is off contract. What has been goin on the last couple of years? Pretty solid game overall. 7
12. Gillett - Pretty good game while on the park and made some good defensive hits and made some important metres in attack. Went off late, hopefully not a recurrence of his shoulder injury. 7
13. Parker - Much better than last week but still not quite up to the elite standards he sets for himself. Even so, average for him is still better than most players good. 7

Thaiday - Tried a lot harder than in recent times but still did his hit and drop at times. I loved his defense tonight though and one of his hits lead to a try obviously. 7
Wallace - This is what he does, gets back in the side, plays a blinder and then follows it up with weeks of mediocrity. The key is to see him back up last night's excellent game next week. 8
Offahenguaie - I was so pumped to see him debut and he did alright. Massive future and one very good fun that I can remember. Gave away a penalty though that should not have been a penalty. Not that many minutes. 6
Nikorima - How much better was his service than Macca! He has speed as well and was often there I acknowledged in support. He also tackled well. Many people say we have no one better than McC at the Broncs bt there is only one way to find out for sure, give them a chance. Kodi looks promising and was given plenty of minutes. Knock that number 9 door down son! 7

Big wraps on Kahu, great game and positioned perfectly. Also Hunt had a good game, took the ball to the line and made shit happen, that pass to Reed was spot on. Bench was so much better this week by far, Wallace should definitely be there again. Good game and good win, well done.

Milford looks incredibly frustrated. How can we manage to give him shitter ball than he got at the raiders.

Quite simple really ... He is playing out of position with us.

The ball he got at the Raiders was generally from:

Offloads - he was able to sniff around the ruck waiting for an offload, then he could use his speed and footwork against a fractured defensive line... you can't do that as much from 5/8.

Receiving the ball deeper - by standing at fullback, so he has more time and space to do things.

Supporting line breaks - we haven't made many line breaks for him to support, but if we did, he would be better able to support them from fullback, where he can follow the play rather than trying to create for others.

Teams have been trying to figure out how to nullify Milford, turns out that we did it for them

Yep, it was nice to see our dummy-half get the ball away from the ground and to the first receiver all in one motion. Didn't really look out of place at all - hopefully he keeps his spot on the bench.

Just watched the highlights after watching the game last night and a couple things stood out to me:

Reed: His defence is awful. That play where Barba juggled the ball and then almost went through, Reed had 2 arm grabs at him and didn't get him either time. I also noticed that every time they went to Reed's side, Beale would get the ball on Reed's outside, then immediately step off his right foot and Reed with his bad right shoulder, would always make an arm grab and if it wasn't for covering defence from Milford and Glenn, they would have scored a few tries on that side. Reed is a liability at the moment.

Kahu: As has been said, he had a great night under the high ball, but his driving tackle on Jayson Bukuya I thought was his best play of the night. Stopped a certain try and kept us in the game at that point.
