POST GAME Round 2 - Titans vs Broncos

I still think dropping Milford at this stage of the comp is a bad move. I also reckon Dearden and Croft in the halves would be a complete disaster.

Last week, Milford showed what he can do as did Turps and Isaako. What happened?

Perhaps for a start, putting Croft at 7 was the wrong choice, at least as I see it, given that Milford and Dearden had been building something, and that continuity ought to have remained to start the season.

Down the track, if Milford does fizzle and gets dropped, then the player I would like to see tried at 5/8 is Staggs.
There isn't a single excuse that can be made for Milford anymore.

It's not an excuse, it is for mine that there is nobody else remotely capable, especially when it comes to a kicking game. As @JungleBoogie observed, Croft and Dearden would be an utter disaster.

If anyone is to be tried at 5/8 in place of Milford I think it is Staggs

I guess if you’re going to throw out the kicking game, might as well go the whole way and put Staggs in.

The reality is, we are where the Titans were 12 months ago. Coming off a low base, unproven new coach, confidence shot and roster issues that had to be sorted. Look at the difference a year makes. I think Holbrook is a good coach, but I also believe KW can coach.

It takes time to turn issues like these around. I see a lot of catastrophising going on at BHQ. Just give the new coaching team and the new CEO time to try and turn things around.

I have seen some small incremental improvements already and they may be able to pick up a player or two prior to 30 August. Fundamentally, we have an issue with our spine that has not been properly addressed for 6-7 years.

Not sure I can ever recall a coach calling out a specific player (Milford) for being useless in defence and leadership like that. To my ears it sounded like the first nail in Milf's coffin. I don't see him replacing the halves in the next couple of weeks, but it was a heads up it's on the cards.
I think Milford knows this is the case. Rather than answering the call and making a case for his retention, he’s totally shitting the bed. Instead of controlling the team and kicking to the corners, he’s trying to score points with every touch. I’m seeing a very broken player just as bad as what Ben hunt was after 2015.

While I agree with this in the most part I don't think we are in the same position the Titans were 12 months ago.

A key difference is that they actually had leaders at the club (i.e Proctor, Wallace, James). On top of that they actually had okay spine players who just hadn't stepped up, either due to lack of confidence (Taylor) or lack of opportunity (Brimson). Hooker is still a work in progress but Holbrook did take a chance on Fogarty and it's paid off. He's not the most talented half but he's got the qualities that compliment Taylor's game and importantly, he's a leader.

Our leadership group is a country mile off where it needs to be because we gutted the experienced players out to make room for our young talent (which is ironically now being raided by rival clubs). I don't think this is a matter of getting the old boys back involved with the club as it is about getting the right characters wearing the jersey.

If I'm in recruitment right now and surveying blokes for 2022 I'd be looking at the likes of Reynolds, Finucane, Sironen, Capewell, Ferguson, Tevaga, SJ, Hopoate etc. Depending on the prices etc I think grabbing any of these blokes would be a step in the right direction even if they're no better on paper than what we currently have in that respective position. If it costs us an entitled young talented kid then so be it but right now we need blokes that will put 110% in for 80min and lift the standards in the dressing room.

Funny how they both declined after they were "separated".

Does anyone know what the post match process is? Do they just have a shower and hit the town?

after a game like last night they should watch back the game just to see how embarrassing it was and get reamed by the coaching team

The most disappointing aspect of last night was all week the plan was to make Taylor/Fifita tackle and make decisions. They had plans and passes to use and execute- they didn't do it once.
dumb halves or fatigue making them go away from the plan?

Impatience and lack of awareness from Milf.

Atay and Fifita were on Milf's side but he was obsessed with off the cuff play every tackle instead of looking to get Riki 1v1 and building pressure

also can someone clarify this for me as I was a bit inebriated watching the game (seems to be a prereq lately in order to watch), but did bullemor only come on in the 60th, and kennedy in the 67th?

if so that's fucking atrocious bench management by walters, we would crucify seibold for that...

This post needs a 🤞 reaction.
