PRE-GAME Round 20 - Broncos vs Storm

To me Seibs plays Flegler as a third prop and I believe he's first off at 20mins... Lodge and Payne play through to at least 30min mark for their first stint regularly.

Offa on for Flegs after 20
Carrigan on for Lodge (likely) after 25-30
Kennedy on for Payne late first half or early second half

Flegs back for last 20-25mins
Payne back at 50min mark
Lodge back around 50-55min mark

Kennedy gets the least minutes followed by Flegs, Carrigan or Offa depending on who is going best.

I think Seibs is easing Carrigan into first grade... he played him for +60mins last week suggesting he may want him as the lock moving forward.

I like Carrigan's work off the bench as well... even though he's undersized he does a great job getting between tacklers and I rarely see him get driven back.

I've said before but he reminds me of a Murray Lite... he's no where near the calibre of Murray yet (who I consider maybe the best lock running around at the moment along with Jurbo (excluded Lolo as he's more of a prop than a lock to me)), but his running style reminds me of Murray and he would have one of the quicker ptb's in our pack.

Good post but is Carrigan undersized? He sure doesn't look undersized to me.

I say undersized, but I should've said undersized for a prop... in the same way I would say Parker, Arrow and co were undersized for prop, but a good size for lock.

They should play this on repeat, along with a highlights package of the grubby acts storm players have done over the years and their joy when they beat us, all week long to these players.
It's the first time in years I have heard the players talk about how proud they are playing for the broncos. This is the true test!!

Would love to win this game more then any other this season so far but unfortunately I can’t see it happening. The storm are too clinical and will wrestle us out of any momentum we might usually have. They will pick us apart and will eventually find the weaknesses.

It pains me to say it but with the storm coming off a lose a just can’t see us beating them especially now that TPJ is suspended. Storm by 6-10 points but god I hope we win so bad!!!!!!!!

Not the best quality and the first few minutes are missing but still very watchable.

Just one of the downsides of collecting old games. Sometimes there are issues with them.

Seibs needs to get the highlights vid from our win over the Storm from a few years ago..... down there, we held them out with an amazing defensive display.

Anybody remember what year that was ?

Don't get the Flegs dislike around here. He is perfect for a starter, big body and hard tackles. He also makes a solid 10 every run. I think he offers a lot for us. Offa and Carrigan are a good combo to change things up. It seems we head out with our big boys first and I like it. Kennedy has been Ok also, another big body that needs a bit more time in the NRL before he shows what he has got.

If he is in the reserves, he is more than likely to start.
Turpin will be omitted from the 17, Tommy Dearden to starting halfback.
Wishful thinking there. Turps is Seibold's very special boy and Segy's just the dog he keeps around to chase the rats. Still, the prospect of Dearden, Segy and Turps on the field at the same time has me barred right up.

I forgot how good darren smith was. Much underrated. This was what i miss from the modern broncos. The constant passing, offloads and backing up.
Darren Smith was what Macca should be.

Storm's starts haven't been great lately, the backend of halves is when they are at their best.
Yep, they're fuckers that way. I was completely expecting the dice to roll their way last weekend. Every game against them is like a State of Origin. It's not over until it's over.

I don't see much dislike for Tommy tbh.

Does anyone dislike him? Most of us are big fans, especially considering his age. Maybe we are also spoiled by Haas a bit. The debate is just about who should be starting.

Personally, I think for this Broncos side it's most important to start strongly. This means Haas needs to have the most runs. Flegler's runs can be stronger than Ofa's, Kennedy's or Carrigan's, and also he doesn't take a big number of them, which lets Haas be the focal point of the attack. Carrigan and Ofa have a higher workrate for now, so I don't mind them coming on when Haas and Lodge are off.

I think theres a view that the lock should be an 80 minute player or close to it, to allow a team to integrate the lock into the attack.
With the more modern role, they are more a third front rower (ideally with the skill set of the old role, but rarely).
At the moment though, our forwards are being allowed to play a much simplified game, without the wide running and integration in backs play of previous teams giving way to just making the metres and putting our opponents on the back door.
This makes sense with a young pack that has superior size and at times athleticism over their opposition, but I suspect the longer they play together, that will morph to a point where a carrigan might be seen as preferable for endurance.

apparently Coates has been training at center, with Gillett missing the session.

if Gillett is out, Coates likely to play center with Glenn moving to the backrow

Why do I have a feeling that Melbourne will exploit that to no end?
