Copley is a quality defender ... he showed that against the Roosters.

His problem is just that he was continuously being moved all around the backline and that can throw out a players timing. Kahu had a similar problem against the Bulldogs.

besides his attack is awesome, we saw that last season when he was our leading try scorer.

If he gets some consistency in the left center position, he can get back to his best form, which we only saw a fraction of last year IMO. and I also think that once he gets back to top form again, he offers this club far more upside than Reed does when he is in top form.

Don't care about what he did in the past. He's been terrible this year. Form Is how you should pick your team, not what they did in the past.

even this year Reed was picked on ordinary form... for the record Copley scored 2 tries last week in the ISC... you can only judge his form on what his last games were.

otherwise, who get dropped would never be able to get back in the team. and If your talking about moving Kahu to center, then he was poor defensively there last start.

Don't get me wrong i really rate Kahu, in fact I think that Kahu and Copley would make a very formidable long term center pairing for the club.

While Copley wasn't playing great footy early in the year, he was playing no worse that Reed, but Reed was given a chance to turn his form around. now we can give that same chance to Copley, who IMO has far more upside than Reed.

Boyd's gonna draw and pass this prick for a try assist, I can see it now.

All bets are off, Hoffman is a shit fullback who posted appalling stats when he had the position for a whole season without Locky and constantly got praise for merely doing his job catching balls and getting up meekly for no reason every. single. tackle.

Please tell me Henry is still playing Hoffman at 5/8

Reed scored in "first grade" last week

This is the same guy like Barba who said he was out to prove the Broncos were wrong to let him go and both failed to deliver and we have only gone forward.
Actually Barba is going real well and the Sharks are in form at the right end of the season. Barba has continually been receiving praise on the various football shows. Agree about Hoggman though but just because Barba has been a prick shouldn't blind you to the facts.

we can't select Reed this week... just in case you missed it. so it doesn't matter if he scored three tries last week.

we are talking about who to replace him with.

No your right about Barba in that his improved since leaving the Broncos and good on him though early on you would have to agree he was definitely struggling, I still don't think it was a mistake on the Broncos part to let him go though. Especially with the talent coming through. He would have commanded a lot of the salary cap into the future and if he didn't improve it could have really put us in a really bad position to retain key players coming through the ranks. Barba I don't hold a grudge for really anyway, Hoggman I have no time for though.

I Know. But you want Reed out of the team for good. Doesn't matter if he scores 3 tries or 10 in one game and doesn't miss a tackle, You would rather Copley be playing.

I can understand Wayne's reservation behind ousting Reed. We saw it against the Eels and Knights how much of a difference his defence makes to Milford's game and they've got a good understanding of one another.

Copley has had an indifferent year. Injuries at poor times, a couple of poor performances in the ISC and just hasn't had an opportunity to really impress one way or another. The only time he really did was when he was playing at right centre and marking the likes of Ryan James (who kept running at him) and Michael Jennings. He handled them very well and was specifically praised for it by Bennett which is very rare. Pulling compliments out of him can be like pulling teeth.

As far as ex-players go, I haven't missed any of them except for Granville. Even then, I was resigned to the idea that once Paul Green signed with the Cowboys, he was going to go up there and make the 9 his own. The rest have had their moments but I can't say any of them have set the world on fire. In the case of Hoffman, I always thought he copped a bad wrap. I get that he said and did some shady stuff, none of it outright horrible in itself and really had no business being our long term fullback but what gets lost is that he was kept in the dark by Griffin. I recall when he first moved to the wing, it was with the understanding that it was a temporary move due to injuries and he'd get his spot back once things worked themselves out. He was happy to go along with it, until the Broncos were chasing Dugan & Barba. The Dugan signing in particular really pissed a lot of players off, none more than Hoffman who not only had him there as direct competition but also as a hypocritical move following the heavy handed response to the sacking of his cousin. Why are we signing this trouble maker, when we were so high and mighty over Dane who didn't have anywhere near the wrap sheet of Josh?

Bennett shot straight with him, Hoff appreciated the honesty and left the club with his blessing.

It's just another key difference between the former coach and the current one. Bennett will make choices and will make it clear what direction the club is going in (9 times out of 10...2007 was odd but then it seemed like Bennett was always on borrowed time anyways). It doesn't always work out for the players, but at least they don't feel like they're being messed around with.
