Round 20 - Cowboys vs. Broncos - Post Match Discussion

All this interaction, the profiling, the constant hype, all in the name of ratings ... I hate it. I just want to watch football, and you never know when you should sit down to just watch the game without missing it (or being subjected to dribble).

Word.

Shit is becoming more about the people, the advertising, etc than the actual sport and results. It's lame.

It's all about the money though I guess. Sigh.

I remember last year someone said the Broncos told Hunt he needs to work on his passing. After watching this game, I agree. Half of them seemed to go behind the players receiving it, so they had to reach back to get it. Our flat style of attack might have something to do with it, but we've had it for the last 2 years at least. Anyway, it's one of the ways his execution still lacks. Drifting in and out of games is bad too, hopefully he works on that as well.

I don't think anyone thinks Hunt is some messiah at number 7. But he has what we've lacked in the halves since Lockyer left, and that's a football brain. Granted he hasn't been able to execute things consistently in his chances in the 7, and he recognises that. He's said he drifts in and out of games and he has to stop doing that.

I think if he's been given the call that it's his position for the rest of the season, he will have the patience to work on it. Whereas in the past he's been thrown in for an injury or a change up with an attitude of "don't **** it up" and that hasn't helped him.

Basically, he has 6 weeks to show he's worth giving a shot to next year. Show us what you got Ben.

Agreed, Hunt alone won't solve our issues in the spine even at his best, but fair dinkum after how long we have given Wallace or even Norman, Hunt deserves at the very least the remaining rounds to show he can still contribute to it in a fashion neither of those two could. That first try against the Cowboys last round was a perfect example of a well executed attacking play, it may seem like a basic thing to do but its something we have so desperately lacked since Lockyer's retirement, not just to put his outside man into the gap but to make sure he backed up making sure the play had every opportunity to pay off.

Hunt is one of those players who you can tell is intensely passionate and loves the Broncos, that last ditch try saver against Cronulla just typifies the sort of player he is. Compare him to Norman, one cracked the shits for being moved to fullback and one signed a two years deal happy to play anywhere in the team (with interest from other clubs) until he got a shot in the halves and his perseverance has paid off. I was very happy when Norman was signed by Parra but I would have been bitterly disappointed if we lost Hunt.

Speaking of the zip of 1st 20-25 minutes: There's many a slip twixt the Hook and the zip.

Just thought I'd throw that in :scared:

Yep. I remember watching him in the U/20's back in 2008 and couldn't wait to see him in first grade - he looked a cut above the rest.

But, over the last year or two, I sort of went off him. Despite a few great performances, he's clearly not suited to the bench hooker role.

I would absolutely love to see him succeed. He's got a fantastic attitude, and seems to have a smart head on his shoulders. He's been patience and it looks like he's finally going to get a decent run at halfback, so for his sake, the Broncos' sake and my sake as a supporter, I hope he tears it up!

He's the sort of player who even if he becomes a huge success, will probably be a Bronco for life, Norman was always going to go for whatever offer suits him the most. That's perfectly fine BTW, I don't begrudge Norman for going (actually I'm very happy!) but from a fans perspective I'd rather a squad with players like Hunt, Parker, Hodges, Glenn, Gillett, Reed, etc. Players who love the club and wouldn't even think of going to another club.

Hodges would have been in high demand yet there wasn't a single rumor of him leaving, Parker told the club straight away that he won't sign anywhere else, how can you not love these players? I'll admit there's a few players I don't like, Sanderson (no real reason :P) and Norman but aside from that almost everyone in the club has a great attitude which makes it easy for me as a fan to support the club through shitty times like this season.

Credit to Griffin on that, he's got a good culture going and keeps the players attitudes in check so with a couple of good signings like Barba and/or Milford, we can return to the powerhouse club that we used to be not so long ago.

Benny Hunt’s awesome try made it into the top 5 tries of Round 20 and Coates’ try saving tackle against Tate made it into the top 5 big hits, although it doesn’t really mean much let's all vote for them to win:

Watching Hunt play this weekend actually reminded me a lot of Mitchell Pearce.

Nup. I stand by it. Very similar players. Decent football brain, average ability. Busts their ass every time but just don't quite have the class to ever reach elite form. I predict very similar careers between them if Hunt can hold on to his position (inexplicable origin appearances not included). I think they'll both bust themselves, while frustrating fans, and doing an acceptable job in a line up of superstars.
