INSPIRATIONAL Cronulla skipper Paul Gallen has been ruled out of tonight's NRL clash with Brisbane due to a calf injury.

Paul Gallen had not been named in the side, but travelled north with his teammates yesterday in hope of taking the field.

But the Origin superstar texted Shane Flanagan informing the coach of his unavailability after feeling pain during sprints at this morning’s training session.

Gallen is expected to be fit for next week’s clash against the Titans at Toyota Stadium.

Youngster Tyson Frizell will play lock, with Taulima Tautai relegated to the bench.

Just to confirm it.

And also confirm if there was any doubt that Phil Rothfail is in the inner circle with Gallen et al.

Not sure people should get too excited about Gallen being ruled out .. Could make the others lift in his absense and there's always a danger of the opposition (ie the broncos) relaxing a little when a star player on the other side is scratched ..

^^^ This. But, I don't think Locky or Hook will be slow in reminding the rest of the team that that's the case. They're not stupid. This is an important game. Tough one next week against the Warriors. Don't want to go into that one on back to back losses.

True but we are also looking to bounce back from a touch up down in Melbourne so we shouldn't be thinking that way regardless of who we are playing.

I think you'll see a dour game tonight. I'm not expecting us to set the world alight at all, however I'd be disappointed if we don't grind out a win. The boys put a lot of energy into the Storm game. Apparently Red Hill hasn't been that focused on a single game in a while. On top of finding it hard to 'get up' again this week, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole squad is a bit deflated given the spanking they got despite the effort they put in.
