I can't believe after this amount of time that people are still backing Maranta, you obviously know nothing about football if you think he's doing his job, mediocrity in defense, the single worst finisher of tries in the history of the NRL, standard under the bomb.. I could put about 6 QCUP players in his position who would've scored 7-8 tries that he's bombed this year.

People's expectations have lowered so far we're 'celebrating' a draw which would be a routine win for any competent side and defending rubbish players like Maranta.

I refuse to join in.

I'm not celebrating. But it is better than losing in Golden Point, and I'm cautiously optimistic. The only problem is that this extra 1 point isn't exactly going to help us much since we'll likely be competing with the Knights for a top 8 spot if we beat them next time.

Extremely proud of the effort everyone of them gave it so much and fought bravely to the end. Feeling pretty empty and dissapointed as we really needed the 2 points. Hunt is turning into a really good playmaker and will be a walk in starter next year if common sense prevails.

I think with a full strength backline we would have won that game. Hunt made some poor decisions but it was the first game of his where I could actually picture him potentially being a star half and not just an adequate one. There are a couple players in our team that I would be happy to never see again but we all know who they are at this point and I don't want to hang on the negatives.

I was too engrossed to take much notice of how the bench was used but however many minutes Thaiday played was about 10 minutes too many and that almost single handedly let Newcastle back into the game.

Thankfully for us the Knights best goal and field goal kicker was sitting on the bench during the moments where the game was in their palms.

1. Defused a crucial bomb.
2. Knocked the ball dead in goal.
3. Made it back to the field of play.

Happy?

Other than score some tries the things you listed are the minimum requirements of a first grade winger. You're saying he managed to achieve each of these feats a whole 1 time? Well, he gets my player of the game vote.

Hi guys, haven't posted here in a long while but have been reading religiously. From my point of view I anything, it's great to see the Broncos once again playing an attractive brand of football. This year has been predominately tough to watch but the last two weeks have been a breath of fresh air. IMO the broncos have turned the corner the future is looking bright! Go the Broncs!

Cracking effort and I'm proud, but I feel a little gutted we only came away with one point for our troubles. I mean, we were leading with two or three minutes left to play. Sucks.

Disappointed with how we conceded those tries mainly... just seemed really, really soft to me. Maranta ay...

Loved Hunt's performance. Showed some inexperience at times, but it's great to half an instinctive halfback with a bit of panache about him.

Great effort by the boys. I thought Hunt showed initiative and vision maybe let down by execution a lil and luck.
Corey Oates tried hard and as pointed out earlier should've stepped back inside. But hey he is only young and learning.
All in all I'm pretty happy with what the guys did.
My contraversial comment. Bring back Henjack for the pre season "bootcamp". I thought the guys were super tough fit and bonded
after 2012 preseason

I'm pretty happy with the overall effort from the boys last night, although the fatigue issue is an alarming one.

Hunt was excellent, tried everything in his arsenal and is growing in confidence.

The forwards were great too, really giving it to the Knights pack.

We could've won the game so many times, but the most glaring for me was in the second half when we made a break down our left edge and Reed tried to kick through past Boyd when ll he had to do was pass to an unmarked Hodges on the inside !!

Anyway, not a total loss.

Hey guys, first post, so go easy. :P

Happy overall, but guttered we didn't get the result. I thought we could have put the game to bed, but we were just too damn tired. Our fitness went out the window after about 65 mins and the only guys with anything in the tank was McGuire, Hoffman and Parker.

Ben Hunt - Hunt reminds me so much of how Lockyer played. I wouldn't be surprised if Lockyer was one of Hunt's heroes growing up because he certainly emulates his playing style. The kid has such great vision and feel for the game. I truly wonder what type of team we would be this year if Hunt was given all of last year to play Halfback aswell as this year. The chip and chase, the left foot step to beat Mullen, then the speed to get into the back field, the crisp passing to Hodges - he has it all. He's not perfect though - His long kicking game needs some serious work, hit fitness needs some work and his execution needs to get better. He takes the wrong options at times, but hell, even the great Lockyer took the wrong plays at times. I'd really like to see Hunt get involved when the game is on the line too.

McGuire - Wowsers. Sign this guy up on a long contract. He is an amazing player. Big, strong, agile, can play before the line, at the line or through the line, he's fast and he can throw a great pass. Probably the best up and coming forward in the game.

Wallace - Why is this guy in our first grade team? Ben Hunt makes Peter Wallace look like he's got hooves. Seriously, just get him out of our f**king team. When he came on our attack went out the window, same as it did last week, and we became soft around the middle defensively.

McCullough - When teamed with Ben Hunt, Macca seems so much more comfortable to play his natural game. They have a real understanding there and work well together. I can see now what Hook has seen in Macca in the 20's, but again, why it's taken this f**king long to get Hunt into the #7 jersey no one will ever know.

Oates - Anyone doubting his pace has been shut up after that game. Out ran Mullen, who is no slouch, and was only caught because he was knocked off balance. Once he gets up to speed, he's quite quick. Showed some inexperience at the back though. The dropped ball and then being out of position for the Uate try. He should have never come in on Gagai, Reed had him covered easily. Hopefully he learns from that, or hopefully we can get a specialist winger back soon. But overall, Oates played a big part in taking some of the really hard meters out from our own end, and he hits the ball up hard and bends the line back. He will be something this guy.

I thought our defence in the first half was great, but again, when Wallace came on, I thought we got a bit soft around the middle, and towards the end of the second half we looked so tired it was almost embarrassing.

No idea why we played Lui ahead of Tasi. That selection made me scratch my head. Lui was largely ineffective and missed some crucial tackles by running up out of the line, one out.

Things look really good for next year dare I say. Surely Ben Hunt has done enough now to make the #7 jersey his for next year. He just needs to work on a few things, and we need a good ball/line running 5/8 with a long kicking game to back him up - someone with some good speed because Hunt showed tonight he can motor. Hunt finding Hodges/Barba in the backline, then on to Reed/Hoffman next year is going to be exciting.

3. McGuire
2. Hunt
1. McCullough

Not the result we all wanted but that was probably the first time in ages I was excited watching the broncos play. Kudos to hunt for sparking attack and pressuring defence from all parts of the field. The 2nd chip and chase wasn't on but neither were all the ones langer tried so I'm not going to be hard on him for those kind of errors in judgement, the trick is to make them the exception rather than the rule.

massive lol at maranta when Hodges just looked to the sky's when he slipped over and got caught on the last. My hate for him has now turned to merriment at his ineptness, I recommend others try this view as well. I accept we have no other options this year but this clown should not be needed again in 2014 or beyond, it is not that hard to find minimum wage wingers in the off season as depth cover for next year.

the usual suspects in Wallace and prince were not great but the club has already shown they know they are not the answer so I'm not going to waste time stating the obvious. Credit to princes goal kicking though, kept us in the fight.

disapointed tasi did not get another crack, his form might be down but really worse than lui? We only signed him for this year from memory so I think it's worth giving him the rest of the season off the bench so he can show what he has got.

tl,dr - I enjoyed watching the broncos play, a rare treat lately.

8 points up with 8 minutes to go and people are happy with the draw? There's enough experienced players in the side that we should know what to do from there.

I understand the Wallace and Maranta hate but they won't be getting dropped so not much point in clogging up every thread with vitriol aimed at them.

I'll admit I was thinking of Mr Fourex when we were lining up for the field goal in Golden Point and couldn't wait too see what XXXX would say if Wallace won a game for us, but sadly it wasn't to be.
