I agree but what I've been saying some of these decisions may be about players getting game time and development. Every coach makes questionable decisions and fans can call them out because let's be honest, fans are usually keyboard coaches comes with the territory. But to say that Kevvie isn't a good coach and bagging his decisions and then saying that I hope he succeeds is a little contradicting .
Cobbo yea. I don’t think Milford or Coates were picked for their development. Nor do I think Arthurs or Isaako were dropped while Q Cup is postponed for their development. I also don’t believe that Farnworth was expected not to play because Mead is a woeful centre and Arthurs would have been in the extended bench.

It’s not contradicting to say I want Kev to succeed because I like the guy but so far he is failing in the following areas and I hope for his sake he can improve this flaw in his coaching.

Im sure everyone would’ve loved Milford or Croft to succeed, didn’t stop them from having endless shit piled on them.

I had a look; weve conceded 29 tries through the middle corridor, second only to the Dogs.

Sam Verrills really looking good again at dummy half for the Rooters...

So take that at face value....but thats where we will get killed... :sook:

I did say some , willison and Tc are others and I dare say piakura will come in in a game or two.
As for Coates who knows the thoughts behind the scenes but your still taking one thing i mentioned and applying it for all situations. Kevvie just might have connections with both Milford and Coates and wants them to finish their Broncos careers on a good note and has them primed for a big game.
It might be because he wants Coates on tupou and thinks milf can add some spark off the bench.
Either way he'll live and die by his decisions and I like it.

I can see this game hanging in the balance for a fair stage tonight. I think the Roosters will prevail because they have a hell of a lot more to play for. It might be a similar scoreline to last week.

A lopsided loss to the Roosters "C" team will undo all the semi good work of the past month. Sydney by 10.

Happy to be proven wrong. What I am hopeful of is that Kev has become so confident of the systems they have been training recently that it doesn’t matter who is picked, the team will continue to improve and we’ll see Coates and Mead maintain the great improvements recently achieved by Staggs/Arthurs and Isaako despite neither playing a game in over a month. I also hope he has dropped Bullemor for Milford because unlike the last 2 times he picked Miflord and it failed miserably, he has finally been able to support Milford to be a player that contributes a good amount to the team. I also hope that Kev will get his bench rotation right and not arbitrarily hook a half and chuck Milford in when the game is no longer in the balance. I’d be wrapped if it works out because none of these players worked out the numerous other times they had shots this year (Mead was good on wing terrible at centre) so it would mean that club has come a really far way since the first half of the season. I guess we will find out tonight. I’ll be cheering the team on as always.

Understanding footy, or having a "footy brain" on the field as a player, is quite different from being able to coach that to others. Not a slight on Kev at all, just saying.
I think for me the dream coaching appointment after Kevvie was officially hired would've been grabbing Neil Henry as the assistant.

Henry gets bad raps from a man management point of view, but is noted as being the chief strategist when it comes to QLD operating as the assistant to a man managing coach (Kevvie, Mal, etc.).

The appointment of Cartwright had me a little worried primarily because to me he didn't come across as some sort of coaching mastermind when at the titans... Matterson I don't really know a lot about other than he's been around the assistant coaching for awhile now.

To me Kevvie, Cartwright and Matterson, probably bring a man management philosophy to the team rather than full strategy and theory... which may have been the right choice given morale when Kevvie took over ie. a softly softly approach to get the group playing for each other first... but I think you need that mix of man management and strategy in the coaching ranks... and having a chief strategist in the assistant role has been shown to work in many situations now.

I feel like Kevvie may have erred away from Henry because he intended to take on the attack, whilst Cartwright and Matterson handled the defence with Peter Ryan as a specialist/ technique coach.

And from that perspective I've been ok with how we attack... we dont often get into good field position and we have probably the worst spine in the comp, but I feel some of the structures and philosophies we run work pretty well on the whole... it's just been field position, completions, etc. that have hurt us ultimately.

Based on that I think our first and most important appointment over the off season has to be the hiring of an absolute master defensive coach... whoever is the best in the league at the moment, sound them out and get them onboard.

Modern league is all about the wrestle, line speed, slowing the ruck, etc. we need to bring someone in that is completely across all of that and spend the entire off season working on it.... fitness and defense.

Reynolds kicking game will improve our field position issues and having a sound defence will give our guys confidence when it comes to ball control and completion rates... improving both those facets will give us more attacking opportunities

Ciraldo.

Penrith’s defensive coach
2 time coach of the year as head coach of Panthers NYC
Filled in for Hook when he got sacked and still managed 5th.

I would look to make Ciraldo the highest paid assistant coach of all time. Kev’s on next to nothing apparently, so give Cameron Broncos money.

He’s off contract at the end of 22, it’s who I would be looking very closely at as Kev’s replacement

Yeah of course. I see where you are coming from and the reasons you've given may well be true, I hope they are. That said, you don't know the reasons either and that's the point really, everyone will read things differently. The fact is, in important areas like bench management, communication with the media and team selection, Kevvie has some serious question marks. Stating this does not necessarily result in the meaning Kevvie is a bad coach. Some of these same posters also acknowledge the team seems to be improving, to me that is fairly balanced. Kevvie is an NRL rookie coach, he has deficiencies, that cannot really be argued and I would assume we all hope he can improve on these. How is that not wanting him to succeed?

I mean, I am sure we all wanted White to succeed in his totally different role, especially after the cancer battle but unfortunately, those who questioned the decisions going back to and possibly before the Boyd extension were ultimately proven to be right, doesn't mean they didn't want him to succeed before it became glaringly obvious he was out of his depth.

Many people wanted Seibold to succeed, I was one of them, didn't change the fact many of us were extremely worried from the time he blinked and used the family card to punt Bennett. Ultimately, he failed. This didn't mean though that many, if not most, of us wanted him to succeed.

Sorry but I don't think communicating with the media is a real important part of being a good coach, and some of the instances that I bet your talking about was out of Kev’s hands (ikin even said himself). Team selection is a matter of opinion and like you said me and every other fan don't know the reasons behind his selections, some could be for a big picture.
Add to that the chopping and changing of the roster hasn't helped, so until he has a set roster how much can you judge him on.
As for bench use even the best coaches Don't get it right all the time let alone a rookie coach .
Maybe you should read sheds posts, he's mentioned multiple times he thinks Kevvie isn't a good coach , and in a different thread he's mentioned ciraldo as Kevvie's replacement (another rookie coach that took over a first grade team that was close to being the best in the comp). So how's that wanting Kevvie to succeed??

Fair enough though I don't think it is a bad idea to bring in an assistant with a view to him taking over if things go pear-shaped. It isn't necessarily about stabbing in the back, it can be about keeping the head coach on his toes, instilling accountability and having someone ready as part of a succession plan. As far as available coaches go, Ciraldo is a pretty good shout to be honest.

Marc Brentnall I'd add to the list too- has been outstanding at the Storm for a long time and just is under the radar doing his job- responsible for the Storm attack which has been great and he's been doing it since 2013.

Not saying it isn't and shed can have his opinion, but im just making a point that Kevvie should have a far go.

What's your thoughts on how Kevvie has performed so far ?

By “replacement” I meant if a replacement was required. Which at this rate the jury is still very much out. It’s like saying I’ve given up on Cobbo because I’d like to sign Manu (or whatever equivalent). If Cobbo has an amazing run at fullback I won’t care about Manu anymore.

I mentioned Ciraldo in response the the quoted post suggesting we get the leagues best defensive coach, who imo very well might be Ciraldo. You would be mad not to at least enquire into getting him onboard in some capacity.

For me Kev’s biggest attribute is that he’s likeable and we don’t want to to keep cutting and changing head coaches and risk starting again. What I actually hope happens is that Donaghy and Ikin set up such good structures and supports that it doesn’t matter how good Kev turns out to be. Kev can be the face and man manager and set the culture while Ikin helps shape the roster and assistant coaches like Ciraldo iron out the creases.

I know it's seems like I'm picking you out but I know it's not just you and you seem more responsive than most , just to clear that up.
I agree with you on the fact Kevvie needs help but I very much doubt Ciraldo would consider us , pretty sure he's a Newcastle boy and the way penrith are building it would be hard to leave.

not to mention the fact that Obrien is hardly secure in his position at the Knights

based on the Gary tweet I hope we get a surprise Cobbo at fullback announcement prior to kick off.

What did he say? You wouldn't be dropping Niu after he has announced he is staying would you, unless he's injured?
