I'm happy to let him trial at fullback but I just don't see it . As for centre we have cobbo and mariner coming through who are actual centers. I think Herbie can thrive on the wing because all the skills your on about us perfectly suited for a winger.
Is Cobbo a centre? He’s always played as and been referred to as a fullback based on what I’ve noticed.

Pretty sure came through as centre/ wing and then to fullback.
Mentioned centre because I think it would be better for his development, I'd resist throwing him in the 1 next year.

Fair enough. I think I’d rather he either play fb in ISC or fb in first grade if that’s the long term plan. I’m kind of hoping in November we end up with a Ponga or Manu type signing for 23 but that’s probably unlikely.

Yeah me to , I think some games in first grade @ center if form is good would be good for him.

The skills and stats I posted above are transferable to any position. Herbie is up there with the better players. In any case, my wish in the pre-season is to see how Herbie goes at the back, and the same for Cobbo and obviously Niu, before decisions are made. Suck it and see.

The same would apply to Staggs at 5/8 who for mine, is an out and out centre, possibly to be the best in the business and ought to stay there ... along with Herbie. For mine, that is our best centre pairing, and FTR, I don't think much of Brenko Lee. Wing for him.

Yeah definitely, would be happy fir Herbie to turn into a gun fullback but I just don't see it.
Completely agree on Staggs as a center, but he definitely is the type of player that could make a fist of most positions .

We’re so close to leap frogging the cowboys on the ladder. Dearden might do us a solid yet!

29 game career:

4 wins - 25 losses

He has now gone a whole season as a starting halfback without winning a game, wowsers.

If that continues for the last month of the season then all we need is one win to move above them... but that’s a big ask looking at our games remaining.

I wish people on here would get off Tracey Deardongs back. He’s playing for the club he loves and is fulfilling a boyhood dream.
Had a look at the cowboys fan forum to see what they thought of him.... lol, they like him!
I get that he is young and learning, I really do.... but 23 games in a row he has lost as starting halfback. We won this year and even last with croft as halfback. I can't put my finger on it but he is missing something. He's a competitor and does the 1%s but he is a 5-6/10 in the other 99%...

I think his main weakness is he fails to go deep into the line before offloading and so he gives the opposition quite a bit of reaction time. If he goes further into the line the opposition then have to start second guessing what he’s planning thus creating much more opportunities for gaps to appear for his runners.
But not really my concern now.

Poor kicking game, poor vision and passing selection, not at NrL level. He needs more time in cup, but he wouldn't listen so it's the Cowboys problem now.

On our upcoming game I expect us to get stitched up for Robos comments post game. The Ref will be told to show he has the balls to send people off for ruck infringements, so we will get hammered by them then sent for 10, my bet is Gamble to be the lucky winner of a rest.

Angus potentially being out is great for us. But losing Palasia is a loss for us (imagine saying that). His hard hitting was really stiffening up our middle. Is Flegg back? As he will need to come in and do the job.

Kelly and Gamble need to be the halfs combo, the ten minutes they had together showed they work well and provide attack on both sides. Kelly loves to be on the ball and around it so he is a must if we are to break this game open. Those two and Levi will provide the right amount of spark to create chances for us. On Levi i hope we give him an extension, I like what he brings .

Otherwise i wouldn't change a thing this week.

Lucky for him he'll still only turn 21 next year, so when the Cows drop him he'll still be young enough to develop his game in QLD Cup.
I'll put Dearden on the same boat as Flegler. Both are still very young, but if they don't show improvement next year I'll probably join the wagon.
