[Round 22, 2021] Broncos vs Roosters

That's two weeks in a row that cruical incorrect (BS) decisions have gone against us. 1 cost us the game, the other turned the game against us.

It's also two weeks in a row, I'm waiting to see how Annersley spins the **** ups.

what worries me is that too much more of this BS and our young squad could drop their heads ... Kev and his coaching team will have their work cut out to keep our team's heads up

It’s a concern for sure but I think the players will also see the improvement we are all seeing and the ins next season as well, I think that will keep morale up to finish the season.

If we are getting dudded by the refs, I've often thought it would be worthwhile to put a team together to compile data that shows this. I imagine the Broncos have their own game footage that gives a better view of the field rather than the ultra-zoomed in TV broadcast we have to watch. It would not be a hard task to analyse the 10m, how early each team is being allowed to move up, how often players are not being called for offside etc.

Don't even bother looking at the more subjective areas like foul play or ruck infringements. If we could put together a report that shows we are being more harshly reffed with regards to all things 10m and offside, we could put a lot of pressure on the NRL. Leak it to the media rather than make any formal complaints for maximum effect and exposure.

Every fan thinks their team is getting dudded by the refs. It's the fan syndrome. And there's even the odd coach who carries on like a dickhead every time he loses. How much respect does anyone give him for that?

I'm aware that fans are more likely to notice when calls are going against them rather than for them, hence why I suggested a more objective approach to figuring it out. I don't want the coach to carry on like a dickhead after a match, just get one of the guys who analyses game footage to go over a few matches and observe the 10m and offsides and how they are applied to us. Then we could see if we are getting dudded or not, rather than making assumptions.

Radley is facing 3-4 weeks for his incident on Kelly.

Gamble facing 2-3 weeks for a crusher tackle.

It baffles me why a head high can be a sin bin but what Radley did isn’t. What he did can end careers but it’s not treated as a serious offence. The only reason he’s getting 3 weeks minimum is because of prior charges.
Liu knocks Levi the f out: 0 weeks.

That's what they do with the team every Monday morning after the coaching staff has raked through every second of the game. Referees will always have made mistakes during the game and missed infringements. Decisions that could've gone either way will have gone the wrong way. Sometimes they're so glaring the NRL will concede they got it wrong. But if you look at the games as thousands of decisions like these and appreciate they got almost all of them right, without the help of frame by frame slow-mo, I think the standard of refereeing is extraordinarily high.

The best the coaching staff can do is look at rule changes, make sure the team understands them, and is drilled not to make mistakes. Walters has done an excellent job of this compared to Seibold, and the stats reflect that. We are one of the least penalized teams.

The gold standard of coaching is to go one further and exploit the latest rules to your advantage. Look for flaws and loopholes. Game them, so to speak. Use the other team's disadvantage to your advantage. This is what the Storm does best, and why their system is the envy of every other club.

Tbf to the roosters Mead did strip the ball in a try scoring situation and wasn’t binned. We cried blue murder when Moses did a similar thing slowing down the ruck and wasn’t binned.

milford coming on like a wet blanket kicking to their winger on the 30m line instead of doing the one thing he is good at - an enormous torpedo to the fullback, Kennedy dropping the ball, Coates not knowing how to defend, all things that were bigger contributors to our loss than the ref.

Even though that call at the end was disgusting, we really shouldn’t have been in that situation in the first place.

Double D doesn’t strike me as the type of bloke to let shit slide for too long.
Anyone floated this guy as a name for dd yet?

I agree with what others are saying in that we let ourselves down more than the refs did.
But that still doesn't change the fact that we lost on a farcical call.

You think Robinson would have let it slide in the post match presser if the roles were reversed?

If that ref decision decided a grand final, the game would die on the spot and Klien/Perenara would never work again.

Moses slapped a bloke in the face last night with a swinging arm and not a word was said about it, other than Braith asking how that was any different to what Flegler did.

Consistency please.

Yep....it was there for the taking, but our own crucial errors and lack of organisation threw it away.

Needed Kelly to step up a bit more. I'm done talking about Milford for a while. I saw no improvement in his brief appearance.

Hopefully Reynolds solves some of this...

Yeah, agree. Thing I like about Kelly though is he puts himself into good positions. He's just got a sense of where the footy will go. Apart from the try they scored through him, where he didn't push up off the line enough (wasn't helped at all), he's a pretty good defender.

Tallis brought up the Captain's Challenge on Triple M.

Kent flat-batted it 'rules are rules' and explained that there was a quirk which allowed them to go all the way back to the previous play the ball. Didn't necessarily defend the rule or the bunker's jurisdiction but explained that's just how the game is officiated.

No mention that you can't challenge an act of foul play.

I'm just keeping a note of this since the media has a strange relationship with the Broncos.

i've seen plenty about it being a disgraceful or BS decision ... but absolutely no where has brought up the fact that Tedesco wasn't permitted to challenge an act of foul play

Ch9 footy show this morning discussed the game but never mentioned the ruling at all. Gallen was talking about the game and said something like” in a game where the Roosters won on a controversial ruling”, he then realised what he had admitted to and immediately corrected himself and said “winning from a penalty kick which was not at all controversial “ it seemed obvious to me that they had been briefed to not talk about in those terms.

It’s amazing that they can all find a reason to whinge about radley getting penalised for taking out the legs of a kicker, despite it being a clear penalty the last decade, yet have no issue with the miniscule high contact by Flegler which decided the game - and that’s even before the whole challenge process being screwed up.

At the end of the day. We can't rely on the referees to not **** us over.

We don't let in that digustingly soft 3rd try. We win.

Kennedy keeps his brain operating. We win.

Levi showed that gamesmanship is required to do well in this comp. We need to start gaming the system. That is purpose 6 agains to start opposition sets in their own 20. Real cunty stuff that Melbourne and Sydney do well. Being off side consistantly enough that the ref just stops calling it.

just imagine the carry on if we won a game by challenging something we weren't permitted to
