POST GAME [Round 23, 2023] Broncos vs Cowbyes

His passing game is fine. We just rarely see it.
Kinda makes it hard to judge wouldn’t you say. I always felt he would be a sensational winger with his speed, skill and evasion. A big part of being a top deck centre is setting up and passing for your winger. Herbie is a good old fashioned ball hog.

No......no you're not.

I reckon that would make an excellent BroncosHQ poll!! I wonder if the main protagonist would agree to abide to the final vote results??🤣🤣🤣

Preaching to the choir on that one, but he proved without a doubt in this game he can set up tries when he takes a break from being the BIGGEST HOG IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME.

I think Teddy might give him a run🤣🤣

In all seriousness though. It has had a big effect on Oatesy’s scoring rate playing outside Herbs.

I love that Jesse got sent for 10 and a week off 2 weeks ago, yet when he gets high shotted out of this game and next round....CRICKETS.

MRC, next day: Actually that was a high shot.

**** the bunker.
They need the same people in the bunker every game to create an environment of consistency. Like it was initially designed to.

Tom Burgess was binned by the bunker in what was an almost identical hit 2 games later yet Arthur’s penalty was overturned. Absolute bollocks.

It really didn't though. Billy looks busier, and he had a couple of great runs including a try assist, but Tyson might be a quiet achiever. He powers through a massive amount work (45 tackles), seemingly trundling around, but if you notice he's always there at the clutch moments. His passing game is deceptively pinpoint and understated. Which all makes him more suited to starting. At the risk of going down that track again - and this is not even remotely going to happen - but if Tyson can do that for 80 minutes we might even gain from having a different type of back on the bench, maybe even a wildcard utility like Capewell.

Thing is, Billy also provides us with halves cover. We have Reyno, who can be a little fragile. We also have Mam who has struggled on and off for seemingly most of the season with that leg. Billy's halves cover is invaluable in that scenario because at a pinch, Smoothy can play the entire game at 9 and Billy slots relatively seamlessly into the halves.

It's more likely that this is the reason Billy being left out of the 17 won't remotely happen, he is SOLID contingency. Also the fact he has improved out of sight this season and realistically no-one can argue that.

Madden is already a craftier half and he still needs more time in the Cup. Billy's defence though is substantially better.

Lot to both like and dislike in Madden's game. Ultimately, surpassed exipectations and good enough to fill the role, especially with Ezra and Reece on fire.
If he can consistently pump out those games in the NRL and work on a few little things, he could be a great half to follow in the wake of reynolds.
There was nothing too special, just some good passes, decent kicking and sturdy defence, but thats more than enough in a team with this kind of strike.
On a side note carrigan has to be one of the most exiting players in comp with week to week improvement. He was playing as a top shelf play maker out there at times with a couple of passes reece walsh would have been proud of.
He must be truely terrifying, particularly with the best prop in the game yet to get his runs right, with him. When they start humming with their play together, no pack (penrith included) will stand a chance.
Carrigans game demands support runners (and this from a bloke who thought he was a prop).

Btw…. Did we all think Madden looked more “relaxed” and free this game?!
Short balls, long balls and just generally taking charge WITHOUT overthinking his role. Loved what I saw from him compared to earlier in the year 🙏🏻🔥 Get it Jock!!
On that, I think the team did really well encouraging him. The first time madden ran on the last and got near the line, madden looked disappointed but billy patted him on the back and congratulated him for having a go.

The pass he threw leading to the first try, everyone went back to him and congratulated him.

It is really nice to have a team that builds eachother up. I think that can largely put down to nice guy kevie.

Billy Walters is over rated and only has a rare good play here and there. He only looks good because of the gun players around him. The reason he's failed at other teams is because he's no NRL quality standard player.

Provan 10
Clay 8
Raper 8
King 7
Ryan 7
Gasnier 6
O'Neill 6
Coote 6
Lazo 5
Edge 5
Bath 5
Branighan 5
Quite a few in that list from the 50's to early 70's, not many from post `80's which confirms how hard it is to win multiple premierships in recent times.
