Jake Turpin also stood out, according to Peter Ryan:

"I love the guy’s tenacity. All hookers are fit, right, but Jake’s ability to make tackles and back up and be dominant in attack is what it is all about for him. He doesn’t have the jet speed of some hookers but he is a grafter and his attitude towards hard work is second to none. When I was coaching him, I found him to be a sponge who wanted to learn how to bring down big individuals, small individuals and the stocky, barrel-chested blokes who are tough and like to run over the top of you."
“Put it this way: I think he is good enough to play for Queensland. He is behind young Harry Grant from Melbourne but he is not far off.”

There is a reason obviously that Ryan is known for his defensive prowess and not attack.

Do people in Melbourne even know what a rugby league jersey looks like? They're probably just confused...

Broncos in a canter, barely break a sweat on our way to that million.
Scrap what I said l. Just went to get some food and the server was a storm fan (who flew up to Brissy for our last game). Another storm fan in the line behind me... That wasn't a fun convo.

Surprisingly a lot of storm fans here lol

Edit: but they still remember the 2006 grand final!

Can someone explain why paix gets dropped to supposedly "work on his defence", but turpin doesn't get dropped to work on his passing and just generally being an awful hooker.
I guess because we still have hope for Paix. Turpin is beyond redemption.

because we're still invested in Paix. improving his game is in our best interests long term

Well I've seen enough in the last few weeks to pretty much think the boys are done for this year, tonight's smashing by the Eels will pummel our already limp for/against opening the way for the Raiders to move into the 8.

Then next week the Dragons will put us out of our misery and our fall from the top 4 to out of the 8 in record breaking time will be complete. And of course we'll all be able to bask in the players greatness at the end of game/season as they smile and laugh as they shake hands and stand around with the opposition.

I'm ready for the one dayer against the Eels. We won't need 50 overs at the bat and neither will the Eels, if you catch my drift.

Okay, insert any other hooker's name here. How about Reece Robson? He's a complete nobody. Not in any top 8 list of hookers. But he's leagues above any of ours.
Robson might not of been anywhere near a top 8 Hooker when Cowboys got him but today in 2022 he would be a top 5 Hooker easily to suggest otherwise is to be blind, he has been a huge reason for Cowboys improvement this year.

The best part is if we lose by 45 we are still in the top 8 until Saturday at least

Reynolds 250th the week after a flogging….if they don’t treat this game as a must win, we still have a long way to go as a club.

even if they win there is no doubt that we've got a long way to go as a club

there is also no doubt that we've come a long way since Kevvie took over from he that shall not be named

I don’t know, this last month has been 2020 bad. If they make the finals and don’t get flogged I’ll agree with you.

Parras biggest strength is their middle and since we played them last it's been our biggest weakness, last time we played Parra they didn't turn up at all, if they do here we will need to play better then what we have for over a month to not get demolished here.

With Patty gone our Middle resiliance has completely died, but I will say if we somehow win this, it could be completely transformative for our season.

My point is that the eye test should also be taken as a valid measurement, and that any team in sport also employ scouts along with their statistics. Furthermore, statistics can only take you so far and sabremetrics, for example, are not as reliable under small sample size applications such as playoffs.

In knowing your tendencies to be contrarian or belligerent I did seek to preface my post with a positive about RK, so as not to end up in an internet based battle, but I was worried you'd take my post negatively.

My ultimate point in posting was simply to say that other posters (when not shitstirring) have valid appraisals that you may leverage stats to undermine, but you ought to be aware that stats aren't telling the whole story, and in most cases will be used to make arguments that suit a purpose. What sports teams look at are multiple statistics in context. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes they get it wrong. Just the same as the eye test.

You reducing my point down to a false logic statement is wholly unfair.
It came across as you not acknowledging that stats have a place. My point is pretty simple, good players have good stats. It really is that simple. This supposed 'eye test' appears equally unreliable.

Always the eye of the beholder.
