PRE-GAME Round 25 - Rabbitohs vs Broncos

To me, finishing in the top 2 is a bit important.

Since the start of the NRL, 3rd has only won the premiership 4 times.

10 of the 17 GF's have been won by teams in the top 2.

So yeah, I would very much like for us to win this game. We're due for a win against this mob..

We broke the drought against the Roosters. Let's break the drought against the Rabbitohs.

Last time we won from 3rd.

Actually, top 2 means a lot less now than it has in the past. All it gives you is home advantage. Before, winning from 3rd still didn't mean a week off.

I'd at least like to see Boyd replaced by kahu and maranta on the wing.
I think parker could use a break. Assuming he isn't injured stagg would be a good substitute.
I would also like thaiday off the bench again to get that fire back. For balance offa should play the first ten in his place.

I'd rest Parker, Gillett and Boyd. Wayne said in the press conference after the Roosters game that regardless of results, we're still going to finish 1, 2 or 3 and that their goal at the start of the season was to finish in the top 4. He went on to say he would likely rest players. It's the smart move!

Totally agree with resting them, aside from which Souths without Inglis have serious problems in attack and defence. In any case, this game is a test to see if the lessons from the Roosters have been learned.

If we are back to our best, I can't see how Souths could possibly win this

Saturday night was it, this is more winnable with Inglis out.
when i posted he was still in. :p

nah, i figure we can beat the roosters, we've already proven we can once this year and a 2 point loss i think shows we are right there with them.

our only match against souths this year was round 1 where we took a bath, they set the benchmark for us early on and so I think it's important we come out and make a statement. if we get beaten convincingly again we might feel like they have our number, hence the psychological damage of a bad loss. a close loss will give us a similar feeling to the roosters game last saturday.

My 0 years experience as an NRL coach tells me that resting players at this stage of the year is the wrong move.

Minor premiers would be a huge reward and morale boost for the team, the club and just desserts for being the best and most consistent team all year.

To bookend the season with two demoralising losses to last year's premiers must have an impact on the playing group.

The only positive i see is...Generally when teams get the week off at finals time they come back stronger the next week and seem to win alot more compared to teams that have tough games week after week. Maybe it would be beneficial for some kep players to freshen up.

Have to agree with this. Far better to go into the finals in winning form than losing regardless of what excuses you might have ie resting players etc.

Only players who are genuinely injured should be stood down.

We also want to get a home final if we can otherwise we face the prospect of playing the cowboys in a semi final up in townsville where, if my memory is correct we have Never beaten them there in a semi final so it would be good to avoid playing them there if we can.

A home final is definitely the way to go and we should be doing everything we can to secure one. :takdir:

With the amount of injuries floating around right now... why the hell not go out and make a serious effort to win the minor premiers. It's so downplayed by all the coaches but I think at days end that winning the last couple of games makes a good statement moving forward. That's just me though.

If players have decent niggles they should be rested now we have a top 4 spot locked up IMHO.

It's all well and good saying we need have winning form etc. etc, but if for example Ben Hunt has some niggles and he plays on and does a season ender, then we are stuffed regardless of winning form or happy feelings

Inglis will miss the game and that is a good story for us, I can still remember ANZAC day last year. It will be a tough game with a short turn around.

Watching Bennett's press conference, it did seem that there was a fairly significant dose of media sh1t-stirring when it came to his response regarding the resting of players.

I suspect he won't be resting players unless they are genuinely suffering from injuries that go a bit beyond niggling.

Seriously, the only player i'd be resting is Parker .... he's been in absolutely everything this season !

Reddy..

I would put up some high bombs for Kahu. Test him out.

Edit: Wait, never mind. He plays on the other side.

Or was he simply not selected?
