Just remembering now how close we also came to releasing Sailor in the off season 😳. HAVE to stop voluntarily releasing players we have contracted like Capewell without getting anything in return.

Back-up fullback about to be very handy. Depth is AS important as quality.

Acknowledging we faced alot of adversity last night. 50/50 calls going against us and players out of position but I'm still going to be quiet critical of our performance.

3 weeks into the season and i sensed it in round 1 and i still get the feeling we are kind of expecting things to pick up where we left off in 2023. We don't look to be willing to work hard in defence and build pressure in attack. I really want to see us go back and do the hard yards early in games which generally led to us running away with the game late in the second half. We our line speed and effort just seems a notch below 2023. Also we don't seen as fit as 2023?

Its definitely not panic stations yet but players are going to need to step up or there's a real chance we end up with 1 win from the opening 7 games. Cows alwasy turn up agaisnt us, we all know what happens against Melbourne, Phins will be primed (ex broncos) and Canberra like playing us.

I don't know what the answer is because our wingers are doing a great job, but in every game this year there's been times we're stuck on our own line and i find myself waiting for that Corey Oates charge where he makes 15 meters, finds his front and gets us rolling. He does it every game without fail and without Herbie there we really sruggle when teams have us locked down on our line. Not saying bring him in and not saying don't, but we really miss his hard carries.

I thought Cobbo was great, very busy and full of energy. Baker was dissapointing and Marty needs to be told to put his head down and run off the back fence into the defence, none of this stepping been fancy shit. I think the two hookers need to be put on notice as well, some poor defensive reads from Billy.

Also, for me that was a textbook double movement. He had momentum yes and had he of left his arm under his chest the ball may have made the in goal and been a try. But the arm touches the ground with a defensive player in contact with him and he promotes the ball over the line.

No attempt to tackle at all..

Riff have some sort of superior bone density improvement programs, their physiques around where bones are pronounced are noticeably different than pretty much every other team. I don't think teams should be targeting their players for signings, they should be after their strength and conditioning staff.

Funny you say this 😆

Billy got caught a few times looking around when the ball was played.

I have never seen a team lose 4 players from their best 17 in one season. Incredible to see how much the broncos get raped by the salary cap.

only needs a penalty, and a failed HIA, Sailor can cover the spine, plus wing on a pinch given he is fast and has played there too(since our wingers are centre capable).

Objectively he covers the most positions.
I have no issue with him being 18th man. He shouldn't be on the bench though.

Turned it off before the end of the first half. First time since the Seibold days I haven't watched every minute of a Broncos game. Had nothing to do with the score either, just the refereeing.

I didn't think it could, but honestly it's become worse.

There might aswell not be rules - nobody (including the refs) know what they are, what they mean or how they should be applied. Every single call made on the field is seemingly random - rules are ignored, or applied sometimes but not others, interpreted completely differently from game to game, or sometimes just outright made up by the looks of it.

It really looks like the refs are out there just twisting the rules to suit whatever they want the outcome to be in every scenario. The outcome being the one that causes the least 'backlash' and seems 'appropriate' for the NRL's optics.

This whole sport is such a mess. I used to watch every minute of every game every weekend... Now I can't even get through my team's game because the refereeing is so inconsistent and poor. Makes the whole spectacle seem so pointless and stupid.

IIRC the Storm lost the Bromwich brothers, Kaufusi and B. Smith in one season and they still made the prelim. It’s possible.

I’m not saying the situations are exactly the same because they’re not. And we still need to get through Origin where we will lose a tonne of players mid year.

It was inevitable that Piakura would take the starting spot, but Capewell off the bench covering middle, edge and backs would be invaluable.

The club failed to recruit a suitable replacement... and basically failed to recruit literally any one that could act as a 3rd second rower for the club... we have literally got 2 second rowers and decided to release one and not recruit anyone else
Hey kurt, I know you've got a 3 year deal for a starting spot from the warriors but we will keep you for 1 year and put you on the bench.

Would be great for team dynamics and reputation within players looking to sign with us. I wanted him to stay for one more year, but let's not look back with Rose tinted glasses. He didn't deserve a 3 year deal from us with his defence and unfortunately that's what the warriors were willing to provide. They are 0-2. He wouldn't save us now and he won't save us in the future. The players attitude hasn't been the problem, and that's why people were worried about losing him. Piakura has been miles ahead of his performances last year it's not the problem. Depth yes, but not necessarily him.

Yeah, I agree. Sailor on the bench gives nothing if there are no injuries. If anything, Oates provides even more versatility on the bench. I don’t really love that idea either but it’s better.

One thing i want to watch back is exactly when the turn of dynamic on field happen, and who got interchanged. A switch flipped in Mam and the forwards were having a good go.
Cobbo took the kick and made a 50 metre break. The only way we got out of our own end. That was the shift point.

Letting Capewell go is really coming back to bite us
Piakura was absolutely woeful in the centres before they finally made the correct decision to move Riki out there

Can't for the life of me understands why the NRL wants a product where everytime an outside back goes off for an HIA (happens plenty) most teams fall apart having to put a back rower in the centres to get exposed. All they're doing is encouraging grubby teams like Penrith to go head-hunting to try to get opposition players knocked out of the contest, and then exploiting the gap they leave all night.

If you're going to have these ridiculous HIA rules then extend the bench by one man. Let teams carry an outside back as the 18th man who can be activated anytime - HIA or not. It creates a better product for the audience who don't have to watch forwards defend in the backline, and also means that a single HIA doesn't nearly automatically ruin a team's chances to win.

It's such an obvious solution.
