I actually think that was his worst game as a Bronco. He's had 3 poor games in a row now. I'd be swapping him and Smoothy and if he cant pick his game up from the bench, i'd give whoever is playing better out of Paix and Mozer a run from the bench.
Yeah walters was very shit tonight. That third tackle kick was just rubbish. Hard to play off the back of fletcher baker making an error every 5 seconds I guess but he needs to be better

Walters: 39 tackles - 5 misses...and about 10 total misreads that don't have stats
Smoothy: 20 tackles - 0 misses
Baker 34 tackles - 5 misses
Piakura and Mam also had quite a few misses but they were majorly disrupted on the edge

Aside from Walsh for obvious reasons, all our other backs made well over 100m
Jensen 13 runs - 135m, 33 tackles - 0 misses - he had a great game
Carrigan 15 runs - 157m, 43 tackles - 0 misses - these two couldn't have done anymore

But honestly, we actually made metres through them pretty comfortably but unfortunately, our defense went to pot on Cobbo's side with him going to fullback.

All in all, us having Walsh taken out totally changed the game. Up until Jensen dropping it, we looked on top. Unfortunately after that, Penrith exploited our massive weakness that they made illegally it turns out and one of the most ridiculous non-double movements of all time. After that, by the time Willison went to the edge (and was EXTREMELY impressive), the damage was done.

Riki, who has been really disappointing unfortunately this season, also bombed a try, so we were a lot closer to them than the score line reflects. Of course JFH is a massive in for them but nothing like us bringing back in Reynolds, Haas and Walsh.

Oates probably needs to be on the bench. This likely won't be the first time we lose a backline player, and Oates is maybe the only player left in in our squad that provides the option to play in the backline or the forward pack. He offers a bit more options and versatility when we get forced into a reshuffle. We can't keep sticking props in the backrow, and backrowers in the centres. Would have been nice to still have Capewell.
I'd like to see how he goes in a bench role.

If we had Oates tonight he can go to wing and Arthars or Mariner into centre... solved

If we had Oates in round 1... I'm not sure he can play 80 mins in the second row... so that still needs to be solved... maybe he can play some minutes there and we just need to have a second back up to sub him if needed. Honestly couldn't be worse than shifting Patty out of the middle or playing Baker there.

If we had Oates in round 2 then I think he could've easily popped into the middle for 20mins or something and bashed through the middle with some hitups.

I'd still like to see if Kobe can play second row... he's the most mobile middle we have, runs great lines and cuts blokes in half... has also played 80mins at lock several times in his career

Oates should definitely be on the bench. He could play anywhere and not loom out of position

Actually kinda warming to this... Just concerned he doesn't bring enough when we need solid forward play from the bench.

Positives 2:

Mariner

Really developing into a top winger in the competition.

It feels like every week he scores a try not many players could and seems to be adjusting to the physicality of NRL football.

Can't wait to see what he develops into because he has all the tools you would want for an elite outside back.

Kobe

After a very average game last week, thought this was a massive bounce back from him.

He really caused the Panthers defence some trouble through the middle all night and was one of the guys for us who was consistently pocking his head through the line.

Also hit in defence throughout the game.

All in all he did everything we need him to do off the bench, use his leg speed and hit in defence

Jensen

Played very well in his 100th NRL game.

Got us on the front foot a fair bit and was good defensively.

Think he is the right guy to partner with Haas as the starting front rowers in 2024.

Carrigan

Goes without saying that he was immense.

Without Haas, I thought he went to another level and did everything he could to will the team forward and attempt to stop the juggernaut that was the Panthers team.

Freak.

I honestly think the 18th man should be enabled in that scenario, where a player is infringed on and injured and can't return. If they had have let sailor come into the game it would probably have been a grand final rematch.

Letting Capewell go is really coming back to bite us
Piakura was absolutely woeful in the centres before they finally made the correct decision to move Riki out there

This tackle on Walsh is so obvious, if both players have their head down then yeah is grey but this was not, he never even remotely made an attempt at a tackle. I was actually shocked he wasn’t in the bin. Once again the nrl not picking up what the team that gets away with everything is doing.

Storm 2.0 but 10x worse
In rugby, he could go the whole game

Oh he will get us forward. It's the defence I'm worried about.

they call it a Head injury assessment, Walsh passed despite his eye which is on his head being shut due to the swelling and unable to play.

just saying that doesn't sound like a head injury assessment to me.

Yeo and Edwards are specialists at it.
There needs to be a clear rule, if the attacking player has not surrended and is actively pushing forwards, the ref must be instructed to order the player to return to their mark. It's the attacking player that's slowing the play the ball down, not the defenders. They need to stop players walking 3-4m or more meters past the actual held mark, which happens consistently.

About as pathetic as your post

Freak.
No offence but I think most wingers score week in week out. Kobe had a good run, Patty is never not solid and Jensen was just Jensen. We played like shit and our defence was horrible. Poor game, nothing to cheer about - We got flogged. Bad signs for our upcoming run. We missed Haas of course and Arey's leadership was nowhere to be seen. Confident we miss the 8 this year. Our backline is lazy and our second string forwards only show up for 5 minutes a game. No answers right now.

If theres no injuries you bring Oates on and get Mariner hanging round the middle in attack.
Mariners speed off a Haas or Patty offload against tired forwards would be dangerous
