Round 3 - Broncos vs. Roosters - Post Match Discussion

I understand why Norman is at Fullback and not Hoffman, as Hoffman offers nothing in attack, however Norman is not doing anything with the ball either and thinks he's Hayne. Price and Wallace are not working well together and while this doesn't surprise me this early, I am surprised that one has not been given the dominate role in attack. Last year when we were going well, it was on the back of short passing between the forwards at the line, which is why IMO, they were playing so flat. Now they are just playing flat and this is really hampering the attacking opportunities that Prince could provide. Has our forward pack got smaller? They just seem to be "out sized" and man-handled by other teams, maybe it's just me. Finally, the Broncos look low on speed, even if we could break the line, who has the speed to go all the way? I know we are a long way off talking about the Wooden Spoon, but, seriously, without more options in attack, winning more games than Parra did last year seems a long way away today.

Can't get over Thaiday's comment at the end of the press conference: "Noone wants you when you lose, eh?"

Sam thaiday s naming and shaming a player for a defensive error in the press conference is not captain like material, extremely poor form from Sam.

I agree, I think Sammy was out of line when he name and shamed Dodds, I thought Dodds played well, far above his average, and always running hard at the Roosters. I think Dodds is a very under-rated player. If Sammy was going to name anyone for the loss it should have Hook, that attack plan was terrible, and the halves couldn't have played worse if an Under 10's were defending against them.

Honestly, our recruitment has been poor! We buy Stagg, great, but he is an 80 minute tackle machine, not a super-sub or even a centre (I know we were lacking Hodges and he played centre in the '06 GF, but that is pretty sad if our remedy to losing Hodges is Stagg). Put Stagg in Lock, Parker up to 2nd Row. Gillett I would have as a centre in defence but a "roving" lock in attack. I would possibly even move Thaiday to the frontline to keep Glenn in the starting line up. Have Stagg soak up all the defensive duties and the average run up when the boys need a break (he is there because of his outstanding work rate, not his great ability), then have Gillett and Glenn running off the halves looking for either a short ball inside or out.

Thaiday, Parker and Hannant to move us up the park and Gillett and Glenn to get us over the line.

It looked like our boys got to the 10m line rather well, but didn't know what to do then.

Yeah, the Broncos are like a 16-year-old virgin. Do a pretty good job of getting the girl where they want her, but then have NFI what to do with her.

Hey, I take offence to that comment! I just don't want her to be uncomfortable.

The flat attack is so frustrating. Gillett is the perfect example. When he runs on to the ball hard he is so damaging but most of the time he jinks around doing nothing because he gets the ball with no space. Imagine if he was getting the ball like Hoffman does at the Storm?

Our attack would be so much better with Hunt at 7 and Granville/Baptiste on the bench.

Seriously, Thaiday needs to give up captaincy. Obviously it's not going to be stripped off him by the coach, so he needs to do it himself. He admits he can't handle it, and singling out a player is just insane.

The context of the question was whether the forward pass from SBW cost them the game.

I've lost track the amount of times a player has answered by saying 'well if Joe Blogs did this we wouldn't be talking about it', it's just a customary response.

Judging by the way Dodds reacted after the try, it seems obvious he was prepared to take full responsibility.

Oh yes.

Unfortunately, the club and the coach have NFI. In fact, there has been NFI about coaching attack at the Broncos for a decade, if at all.

It's always been left to the brilliance of the galaxy of stars we have been so fortunate to have and has now dried up with Locky's retirement.

As for halves and say, Hunt and Macca, like someone posted somewhere else, Hunt and Macca were bred as halves and played there in the Australian Schoolboys. So what do we do with them?

The problem is we're impersonating a team that wants to play footy.

There is no ownership or desire. There are BIG problems. Wallace, Norman and Prince play like they're on three different sides. After they were turned away in attack, they gave up and were like "oh well we tried everything, I dunno what to do.. Just bomb it so we don't get revved at training for fuckign the completion rate". The Roosters played very average, they weren't setting the world on fire.

Thaiday is not captain material and has never once done anything to lift the team since he took over the captaincy. In fact, he's taking his position for granted and should be on notice.

What's the point in having Reed, Hoffman and Glenn on one edge when we literally never go that side or Reed just ambles up and gets smashed. Where's his upper-body through the line and offload?

When Mitchell Pearce somehow got out of the in goal, game on, no-one chasing, I cannot believe that.

Forced dropout - 75 minutes in, 8 points down. Short drop out? Nah we'll go long.

I hope that Hodges gets back on the field and fit. Otherwise we're so fucked against the Storm.. I'm not sure I want to go out on Good Friday night to watch that kind of performance again.

Completely agree. There's no shame in it.

It may be a weight off his shoulders.

Hand over to CP13 tomorrow.

Sadly have to agree with subsbligh ... Sam's not handling it and Corey has an older head on his shoulders. Big fan of Slammin' Sam but this isn't his time, maybe down the tracks.
Having said all of that ... not blaming Sam in the least for the woeful display last night ... everyone has to take ownership for that including Hook.

Our defense wasn't even that great though. Rooster poor attack made it look better than it was. We had a lot of missed tackles, they offloaded the ball with 2, sometimes 3 people tackling the ball runner. Where were the kick chasers? What about when they run more than 10 meters before they hit our line? We are supposed to be moving up, that may come down to us allowing them to quick play the ball before our defense is set up. Which then you have to ask with all the focus on our wrestling technique during the off season what the frig is going on? Not to mention that there is at least one ordinary defensive play every set of 6 tackles where they find a hole or make a lot of meters. How many times did we keep them down to the 30 meter or close to it on 4th tackle to have them make it up to the half way the next play? We have problems everywhere. The most fundamental rule in defense is to move up off the line as soon as they play the ball. They should never been running 12-15 meters before hitting our line after the play of the ball.

Hmmmm .... I think someone should tell the coach

The most annoying thing out of this game is Griffin's attitude... IT was one of those type of games... I'd rather good defence over attack anyday... They only won by one try which was questionable...

Seriously, piss poor. If that was Hasler coaching that game, at half time he would have ripped a door off its frame!

If it was Hasler coaching us we would have put on 20+ points and conceded none
