Round 3 Discussion

I know we're shithouse at the moment but for the love of god please don't let us turn into the Warriors. Perpetually garbage.

It probably doesn't but it would've given us 500-600k to spend on another player
I don't think it would be that simple, Brisbane would have to pay for Milford's release. You would have to imagine a fair portion of that $500,000 would go towards that.

I think we had some chance of offloading him in 2019 and paying little. Now we probably couldn't give Milford away unless we covered 75% of his deal. It's all irrelevant now as long as he isn't kept around for next year.

The problem is, in the salary cap era, you cannot afford two high quality halves unless you are the Roosters, Storm, Rabbits or other salary cap bending team.
You don't need two quality halves. The Broncos proved you can win a premiership with one premium quality half and an ISC standard half. A controlled performance, week in week out will get a team close and certainly top 4. I'd suggest we set up our fifth tackle options a lot more slowly. Ready, set annnnnnd go.

In fact, if we didn't have anything set up I'd tell my fifth tackle kicker to punch the ball low and straight at the goal posts from any distance with an intention to pull it up in goal BUT no big deal if it goes dead.

When it does every single defender has to get onside before the 7 tackle set( no big deal these days hey?) I mean so what an extra tackle in the multi tackle world we live in now. It slows the touch footy down and quite often the defensive side dawdles back regardless. The first tackle from the 20 is the same 99 times out of a hundred.

We do need to employ tactics to slow the game down and kicking dead( and my other pet tactic) works well to achieve that.

All very good in theory but you need a playmaker with the ability to stick to a game plan. Last week highlighted very clearly that we don't have one of those.

My point was simply that we need to find one guy who can execute a very basic and controlled role. Wallace was a guy who I thought did that role well a few years back. I am trying to say, yes let's buy a premium 5/8 when we can and a competent 7 who can tackle and play to the coaches plan. Kicking for touch isn't the reward it used to be, the dead ball line is the new sideline, we need to use it for controlled breaks.

I'd just take the one quality half now.
I just feel like at this stage, the Broncos really need to go all out on signing at least one genuine quality half, hooker or fullback. Preferably two. Get rid of some backs and forwards. I wouldn't be too upset if Staggs or Piakura aren't re-signed, because the balance is all wrong right now. Can't afford to sign someone average just because they are cheaper than Milford or whatever too, its just going to delay the Broncos become a powerhouse club by even longer, especially if the money that's saved is just going to be used on the forwards or the backs.

Yeah totally get it and I agree to an extent. I don't mind keeping Milford either, so long as it is only on a third of what he is on now, otherwise the side will go nowhere as it is currently. We need a half with a proven record of not going missing when the going gets tough.

Warriors were slack getting back then

RTS is the best player in the game now I'd say

If they call this tackled in the air I'm over nrl.
