POST GAME Round 4 - Roosters vs Broncos

now you are just being ridiculous ... even the greatest players have dips in form occasionally

JYY had four tries put on him once. Became one of the post-06 GOATs

you mean Isaako who has a much better attitude and work ethic, is a sharpshooter and with the exception of the last few games has been very good for us on the wing .. that Isaako

I'll go on record right now and say Corey Allen will still be churning out the tries long after Isaako has faded into oblivion, sorry. I don't even think Isaako is all that great a goalkicker. He certainly looks the part with his kicking run-up (ala some All Blacks sharpshooter) but unfortunately for Isaako he invariably misses kicks he should get.

I hope I'm made to eat my words as far as his career goes.

so i assume you closed your eyes when he was goal kicking last year when Isaako kicked 97 goals at 83%

which is a better kicking % than Shaun Johnson, Cam Smith, Johnathan Thurston, Nathan Cleary .... and not that far off James Maloney (who didn't have anywhere near as many attempts as Isaako)

and Allen will be out of the side when Inglis and Burns are back

On the subject of isaako, I’ll be watching him intently to see if he learns from his mistakes or continues to do them. His silly step at the defensive line when he is running the ball back near the sideline, Teams have done their homework and realise he is to upright and are keeping him up and getting him to the sideline. Obviously his catching.....he better be prepared for an onslaught of high bombs coming his way. His kicking is an interesting matter though it seems to have more swing to it, like he’s changed something.

Obviously we know how good he can be you don’t just fluke it for a whole season. But teams are now targeting certain things in his game, just like they do with oats. It’s up to him to sort it.

Dont think it was that simple. Once he over run it for a start Milf would have blocked him from making the tackle. If you watch it without any anti Boyd agenda, you can clearly see he made the wrong call and should have, as you said, made the contact first up. Once he didnt, he took himself out of that play. He wrongly put his trust in Glenn, then Joffa and Milf to stop Crichton, but if he had his time again i'm sure he would have put himself in the way as well.

One thing i will say though is i dont believe we would have a single player who would deliberately go out to avoid contact. I think its rubbish to suggest Boyd is making pre-meditated decisions to avoid physical contact. He is down on form and confidence, he isnt gutless.

I don’t have an anti-Boyd agenda. I love Boyd and my previous posts about him show that. He is cooked in my opinion but that doesn’t take away from the fact that I still really like him and it doesn’t make me anti-Boyd. I am simply pointing out that he should have done something on that play.

Honestly, if you are at the point of calling some of Boyd’s biggest supporters ‘anti-Boyd’ then you have already lost.

When did i say you were anti Boyd? I was making a generalisation about anyone watching the clip without any agenda and look at it for what it was, maybe as Huge said, take a look from a different angle as well. Apologies for not making myself clear. But i stand by my point, and i wont have lost anything, there is an anti Boyd agenda as there is an anti Macca agenda where no matter what they do now they get more harshly criticised than others. Take the two passes to Oates that were both more stuff ups by Oatesy than Boyd, yet Boyd seemed to get more grief for them than Oatesy. I still think that people are judging what he did from a clip from behind the posts that may or may not show the whole picture.

Personally, looking at it from the normal camera view, i still think Boyd just made the wrong call, but at the same time, Critchon went through Bird, Glenn, Joffa and Milf before he even got anywhere near Boyd. Boyd shouldnt be the main feature of peoples anger on that try, but because he is Darius Boyd thats what happenes.

All we want to see is effort. With Boyd, it’s a case-by-case basis. Even just diving to the ground looking like he’s doing SOMETHING would absolve him of most criticism. Just like the dummies. Just try and tackle someone, it’s something, even if it doesn’t change anything

Yes, absolutely!

Particularly your last sentence. His involvement may make the tryscorer drop the ball. It probably won’t, but it might, and that ‘might’ should be enough to warrant making the effort.

Stop saying you love the club and start showing it on the field.

If you can make the effort to wave your arms around at the ref, you can throw them in front of the bloke trying to score the try.

I think he misjudged the situation no doubt, and he is rightly being criticised, but once he went to the position he got himself into Milf would have been in his way anyway even if he did attempt the tackle.

I think we have way bigger issues than just Boyd anyway.
I've been a massive Boyd critic for a while now. He talked the talk very well in the off season but in reality his decline has continued and maybe even gathered speed. Having said that, I hate to do it but I'm going to have to agree with Rover on this. Surely he didn't purposely move out of the way. I think he just misjudged the situation. He thought the Rorters player was comfortably accounted for and was getting in position for the next tackle. By the time he realized the Rorters player wasn't comfortably accounted for, it was too late.
I'm more concerned about him standing and pointing at something when Tedesco ran past him rather at least make an attempt to maybe lay a hand on him, make a play at the ball, force him to step inside or something.

The same coach seems to be happy to pick him in first grade now. I thought it was part of a coach's skill set to manage kids with attitude issues.
The same coach hated him last year and Allan had a hissy fit the moment Bennett was signed to the Rabbits. I was one of Allan's biggest fans on here but hearing about his attitude there's no way he could get a spot with us.

I want to like this post multiple times, especially that last line.
Didn't like the posts when the same thing was said about Boyd's contract. Can't imagine why.

Also if you really like Ash Taylor that much you could always become a Titan's supporter. It might be more comfortable for you.

I agree, I like boyd and think he is a great player but he seriously needs to show some urgency. Everyone makes mistakes and has bad games but he needs to stand up and have a crack , put his body on the line a bit more.
I don't think it's as bad as everyone is saying but there's been more bad reads and soft options , than there has been good one's .

This. I don't care if he thinks he saw something in the lead up, let the refs/video refs deal with it. Play to the fucking whistle

Yes, I know the camera angle makes it look like he was really close but I honestly believe he was further from them than it looks and I don't think he could have made a difference even with a huge effort. No matter, he's been failing elsewhere and some of the criticism is warranted and I'm not trying to excuse it all. I just want a little fairness in that criticism .

Regardless, he is the captain and needs to make the huge effort. Whether or not he stops the try that is what captains do because it flows on to the other guys.

Yes, I kind of think I covered that with my second last sentence . On another player, Isaako I believe will come good and his recent efforts have been poor. It might not happen this season but if he gets dropped and takes it well I think he might kick on, even getting to rep level. I believe he has ability but lacks either enough motivation or is down on confidence and needs to find it again.

Yes, because a player's contract is the same as a head coach contract. That's a really cool story bro! Please pray tell what kind of relevant KPIs would you put into a player's contract?

Show me where I whinged and cried about Taylor leaving the Broncos, or even WB's decision about it when it occurred.
