Round 5 - Broncos vs Knights - Post Match Discussion

Kenny was very poor defensively in the middle close to our line. He left the whole Tolar strode through if memory serves.

**** hell Parker shits me off.

Seriously, he is shit at conversions. We need to groom someone who is more consistent. There were several chances the Knights had, which had they have scored, would've brought them level/gone in front, all due to Corey's dire conversion attempts.

It's not good enough in this day and age.

our defense is **** great though.

jesus that's a bit harsh isn't it?? how about we give you a virus, then drag your sorry ass out of hospital slap a jersey on you and see how you go!

douche

Outside backs have no place on the interchange bench.

As soon as we took McCullough off and Beale moved into the defensive line we instantly had holes appearing. We were fortunate that we held them out on this occasion - but other teams will punish us.

agreed on this. beale is no hooker in defence. ran through us a few times in the short stint

Gordie was awesome mocking Griffin, nailed his tone perfectly.

Griffin summed the game up nicely, we weren't really tested that much in defence but in those final 15 minutes we came up with some big defensive plays that won us the game. He was also happy with the work of the bench forwards.

Stone wasn't too happy, said the refs went into the game under the belief that Newcastle weren't going to win. Kidley denied throwing a forward pass, Fox panel disagreed (having actually watched it, I agree with the panel definitely forward in every sense).

Kenny wasn't that bad, performed better than Troncy.

Macca did a couple of nice things but his dummy scoots are useless because he gets dominated in the tackle.

Much improved performance from Wallace, he is actually starting to show some form. Defence was good again, although we have been lucky for about three weeks now. I'm still waiting for our attack to click, hopefully that happens next week because these close games are doing my nerves in. Well done to Beale, I think we are starting to see some of what the coaching staff had seen in him.

I know I haven't been around in a while (Coxy have you done something with your hair, you look different...) Firstly, it's no small feat to win 4 games in a row regardless of the opposition, so well done boys. Also the incredible stat of no tries in the second half after 5 rounds, has this been done before?

Like most people my 2 major concerns is ball control and our attack, both are somewhat poor.

IMO we have been fortunate that the teams we have played against teams that have not been at their best, against a team like the Storm and Dragons we would have been well and truly beaten. I feel that Lockyers peripheral vision is not what it was, we seem to quick to kick. We also seem very disorganised and lack options 10m out. IMO our attack was not as good as last week.

One final thing the Knights player that stayed with Dodds should be rewarded from Gallop, personally to me, thats a real sportsman and WELL DONE!

One other thing that I have been very critical about the Broncos over the past 10 years is their defence and I need to give them a wrap. If nothing else Hook has given this team the understanding that attack doesn't win game as much as defence will lose it. Although I'd rather be up by 20 then up by 2 and dropping the ball 3 times inside our 20, it's not doing my heart any good at all!

Too bad Paterson ruined that later when he maimed Yow Yeh.

I knew Norman was going to be on the bench as soon as the team list came out. Stupid selection. Glenn would've worked better. Wouldn't even need to be on the bench, just moved into dummy half when Macca goes off and another forward comes on.

Great defense again asides from a few lapses. Hodges was great, made a few tackles after busts from the knights and shut down their attack.

He will have to get cited for that don't you think, that was just blatant. I don't know if his intention was just to pin him down to slow down the play the ball, but it looked bad, like he intentionally went out to injure him.

Wasn't that Corey Patterson? The same grub who intentionally knelt on Yow Yeh's calf?!?!

Credit to Alf! When Tolar got fucked up alf stayed with him.

yaaaay. Wallace was great. Hodges awesome, Yow Yeh awesome, Jack Reed awesome. Lockyer didnt look too good. Thaiday only looked good when he was running out wide. Carlaw looked alright. Corey Norman looked as clueless as alicia silverstone.

We're better in attack tonight, our defence was great!

PS. Kudos to Beale, Wallace, Yow Yeh, Reed, Thaiday and Hodges, they all had great games.

PPS. Monday night footy sucks balls.

Went to the game tonight. Pretty good crowd for a Monday night game. Suncorp Stadium really is the home of football!

I personally thought Wallace was our best on field tonight. He had a hand in all out tries, and had the last play on three of them. His early kicking really put pressure on the Knights earlier, and if his long grubber in the first half had of been chased with some zest it would have been an awesome play.

I thought Hannant had his best game since returning for us. He was very solid.

Not an overly exciting game to watch, but always happy to walk away with a win.

caught the last half hour of the game, great win Broncos..

i do agree with the commentators that our attack was too flat, especially in spells when we were on their 10mtr line and just wasnt punching at the line and alot of flat footedness.

good to see Wallace finally get some groove in his attack setting up them tries..Yow Yeh you were awesome!

that sideline guy was right when interviewing Thaiday for MOM to buy something for Hodges LOL

Who awards MOM for foxtel games anyway?
Don't tell me it's Laurie Dailey... lol

It's amazing how the Knights went from a real serious test to crappy within 2 hours. I wonder what happened? Oh wait... [icon_shady

4 wins on the trot and 5 second halves straight without a try against us.
Best defense in the league by far.
Given the circumstances today (rain, greasy field), our attack wasn't even that bad. We scored 4 tries, which would have given us a 25-6 win if Parker had his kicking boots on.
Wallace did quite well, bar that one crappy pass. His kicking game was quite good and reminded me of the Wallace of 2008. Plenty of room for improvement still.
Hodges was the standout IMO, getting involved in key moments both in defense and attack to give us the advantage.
Big wraps on Beale too, who had a very good game, except when he went to hooker, where his defense wasn't up to par and the Knights were just powering through the ruck. Not really his fault though, it's not his strongest suit and shouldn't have been there.
For Macca's stint on the bench, I would've shifted Wallace to hooker, Locky to HB and Norman 5/8.
Locky, Yow Yeh, Reed, Glenn, Thaiday, Hannant and Te'o were good, as was Gillett, except that he's trying a bit too hard and still throws that stupid offload.
Parker was the usual workhorse, but you could see he wasn't as sharp as he has been recently, which also showed in his kicking. Undoubtedly after-effects of that bug.

From the Bench, Dodds was hitting hard in defense as usual, Carlaw wasn't flash but didn't disappoint either, Kenny tried hard and made a very good try saving try towards the end of the game. Norman wasn't on the field long enough to do much good, or wrong, but he somehow didn't really looked like he belonged... [icon_shru

What made me happy was that despite rotating 3 forwards, our engine room didn't suffer too much and we still defended with plenty of gusto.

This was never going to be a high scoring game, nor a show of skill, so I'm overall pretty pleased with the result.
