And why even play him in the trials if he is no chance anyway.

it's called experience ...

it's also seeing where he is currently at.

the club clearly have very high raps on the kid, which is why they are going to the effort to get his body ready to handle the NRL. my guess he'll be the Broncos halfback by season's end

So while he's still 18. Fantastic, we agree then.

Yet again, Seibold trying to shoehorn backrowers into the side. FFS have the balls to drop one or two of them. We dont need Gillett, Glenn, Sua and Fifita in the 17. Drop Sua back to ISC and let him get fit so we can get him back to his best.. I think its a gutless selection tbh and mediocrity is being rewarded. I'm hoping this is the last chance for some of these guys to stand up and be counted.

i think TPJ getting suspended saved Su'a

Nathan Cleary - came out of the gate great but is regressing and looks like his development has been bombed.

I'd actually pay the Cleary example.

In his debut season he took a struggling Panthers side into the second week of the finals. Had an up and down second season but when he was counted on he delivered and got Penrith into the finals. In his third season he misses a stretch of games and is picked in Origin. Despite the long lay-off he goes OK and helps NSW to their second series win in thirteen occassions. Penrith felt the brunt of the rep season and despite all the drama surrounding Griffin he still takes them into the second week of the finals.

Cleary was always more of a Pearce than a Taylor. A good structured player with a strong running, passing and kicking game. He just doesn't back himself enough like Taylor and is too worried about sticking to the script.

He could get away with it when he had Moylan, Cartwright and Peachey around to spark something. With them out of the picture he's under more pressure to create and is struggling with the current structures.

Also worth noting that they waited half a season before giving Cleary his shot and he had already played Under 20s the year prior. Penrith were coming off a season where they were only a loss away from winning the spoon and Soward was close to retirement. It's a bit different than the Broncos situation where Dearden has gone from playing Schoolboys Footy and half a season of Mal Meninga Cup straight into the Queensland Cup system against grown men.

If he keeps his form, he absolutely deserves an opportunity but right now it would be a disservice to his development to throw him in.

The fact Brisbane have yet to sign him into their NRL squad also makes it an impossibility. I'm not sure what the go is with the Broncos, whether they're looking externally at somebody but Dearden can't be named until they upgrade his deal.

It shouldnt have really. for me, it was a simple forward and bench selection

8 Lodge
9 Macca
10 Haas
11 Fifita
12 Gillett
13 Carrigan

14 Shibasaki/Mago
15 Joffa
16 Flegler
17 Glenn.

I really dont see the point in playing Carrigan from the bench quite honestly, he is more than capable of starting.

I never said I wanted him picked. But when other posters are saying he CAN'T be picked because he's only 18 I see it for the copout it is. If you are good enough you are old enough. And why even play him in the trials if he is no chance anyway.

That's fair.

My issue with the post was the lax generalisation.

Seibold sat in that presser after the game last year and said that Haas will come straight back in. Surely he will play.

What the hell as Haas done this season to earn a spot? A couple weeks in the shitty ISC will make him think long and hard about his off field behavior.

Hasn't been worse than Su'A, that what he's done. Lol

Over reaction much?? Mate you are going to blow a foo foo valve, have three scotches and go and lie down.

Ok, I have calmed down after going off a bit at the mouth there. Why oh why though do we keep seeing the same side with the same issues? I know there is nobody banging the door down for selection in the problem positions, but even if there was, I get the feeling nothing would change regardless. Our previous and current coach just seem to have it set in their thick heads that this Nikorima experiement is going to work at some stage. How many losses does it take to convince them it won't!

Penrith put in Cleary as a young bloke, Parra did the same with Dylan Brown. They seemed to have survived the ordeal. Our coach is just too scared/gutless to take a chamce on our young halves.

Every other team has 0 problems throwing 18yo halves in the deep end. Don't see what our issue with it is.

Too fucking right! Is so frustrating our gutless coach doesn't have the cajones to make the sort of call the Parra and Penrith coaches did.

Then those young halves will eventually leave to pursue better opportunities and knik will be last man standing again.

Tanah Boyd says hi.

Don't you get it man! KNIK will come good eventually. It is just a matter of time.

Dearden is ahead all of the other young halves in the pecking order, maybe behind only SOS.

Hoping Boyd or Paix could develop into a good hooker we also need.

I think Tanah will end up being streets ahead of Dearden. Boyd is the second coming of DCE from what I have seen. Why would he hang around here though to be stuck behind a potato masquerading as a halfback.
