If we are going to say you can’t do what TPJ did, well we best outlaw the dummy too.
It’s not as though TPJ took 3 (or more) steps to get to Cronk, he took one. He cannot stop on a dime and if he doesn’t make contact, Cronk dummies and runs past him and TPJ gets lambasted for different reasons.
I’m all for protecting players from foul play.
But equally I do think if you’re going to run to the line, turn your back at the last second so the defence can not see if you do or don’t pass, then I believe the defence, in what is literally a split second decision, should be allowed to tackle you as they would if you held the ball.
I think we need to remember this happened in less than a second. If TPJ takes more than 1 step to get to Cronk, that’s a different story. But that’s not what happened here, so I think it’s a gross overreaction.
