POST GAME Round 5 - Titans vs Broncos

I have seen everyone's comments on Reed and I can't see why there is all the hate. He was one of our better players and he defended like a demon. Certainly had the better of Roberts. Hopefully Kahu is back. Can see why Bennett doesn't rate Vidot, that was a shocker.

More green shoot for the boys tonight. The good thing is we're only play at about 65% but still winning .

Oates saved us at least twice for Reed miss tackles. Once on the line with the strip and once at halfway that I can remember. Reeds dash out the line left Oates with two players coming at him which led to 4 points for the Titans.

(His NRL stats hav3 him only 1 missed tackle though)

Reed had a fair game, made a few decent tackles but dropped off quite a few too. Terrible mistake rushing out of the line and not sliding with the others. Shocking how slow he was in open space. I think it is time to move him on if we have an able replacement. Both teams had trouble with the ball so that being the case it is easier to understand. It's not like it was just us. The ball was greasy even though the ground looked good on TV.

We can accept the two points and move on. Thought most of the team played quite well and 'the effort was there' ! We will have to improve but the improvement won't have to be large, just 5% better and we will be competitive with the top 5 teams Souths,Dogs,Roosters,Panthers and Storm although you would probably include Parra. I reckon those 6 will make the eight for certain.

Banking the early points and we have plenty of improvement left...hard to expect much more.

I haven't seen the game on TV yet but I thought Reed had a decent game, at least defensively on Roberts. Made some good tackles on him that I wasn't expecting him to. Slow as **** though.

Can see the Vidot argument now too. His reaction after the dropped ball was almost comical.

Going to give a wrap to McCullough too. It's the best game I think he's had for us in a while. He was sharper out of dummy half and the 40/20 was very impressive too. Hopefully he keeps it up!

I feel sorry for Vidot.

He was like the classic example of the labelling theory, where you call somebody a thug enough, they end up becoming one.

Bennett has basically called him a liability enough times that he's come up with the worst mistake I've seen him make in a Broncos jersey and it hurt the team.

Meanwhile, if Milford's line-ball pass isn't called, he bags an early try, could go onto get a double and we're all left wondering why he isn't in the team.

Instead, we're all trying to pack his bags.

Besides Vidot isn't the only one to drop a ball tonight ... pretty sure it was the only mistake he made

Maybe it was just from where I was sitting, but the issue I had with the Vidot error is that immediately after he made the mistake, it looked like he just started ball watching rather than trying and clean it up. Did I see things wrong?

Yeah it does suck. But that's football. Live and die on the tiniest things, and often those things can be out of your control or due to someone else's error (cough refs).

No, but unfortunately I think Bennett sees Vidot's handling as a symptom on bigger things. Like concentration and composure when under duress. It's the worst possible thing Vidot could have done, it basically "proved" Bennett's thoughts on him. Bennett is clearly looking to win a GF - he can't have players who crack under pressure, because there will be no greater pressure than playing in a Grand Final, and so far, from what he's seen (which is a lot more than we have), he's judged Vidot as a liability. Whether we agree or not is irrelevant.

Re: Vidot.

"I didnt mind him.He dropped that ball and cost us 6 points"

Rd 5 Press Conference: Broncos

I don't think he said that.

I listened to it a few times and to me it sounds like he said
"I didn't mind it when he dropped that ball and cost us 6 points."

It's hard to say if that was sarcasm or if he wanted to quickly shut them down before they criticized him about the mistake.

Pretty sure he said " I didn't WANT him to drop that ball and cost us six points ". Overall though,a classic WB interview although he is a little more forthcoming these days. They sure as hell know ( I'm deducing ) that it's a work in progress, no big heads or silly giggles. I found it strangely reassuring. Love how WB has already downplayed what is shaping as a huge game for us against the Roosters. He gave Thaiday a strong endorsement too along with Parker so as long as Thaiday keeps putting in I'm pretty certain it will be Thaidays decision as to whether or not he stays.

What I heard was, "I didn't mind him until he dropped that ball and cost us 6 points."

It can be very hard to understand him at times.

Anyway, onto Milford. What a way to break the drought. Two magnificent tries.

We are 4-1 and by my calculation we have played 75 minutes of good football out of 400.

I haven't seen any sources for Bennett calling Vidot a liability. Have you got any links or recall where you saw him quoted saying anything like that? I'd like to have a look if you do.

Great to get another two points , however I see real problems in our defence. Our line speed was just too slow. In fact our backs were just stationary most of the time. This ensured that in most sets the Tits made 40 or 50 metres and got in position to put in good attacking line kicks on the 5[SUP]th[/SUP].This led to a lot of goal line drop outs. The aim must be to stop the opposition getting into our forty. The boys really need to find another gear and move up to at least try and stop them on the advantage line.

Judging by his performances in NYC is there a chance Jordan Drew may be next in line over Dropchurch? Big Pete
