Round 6 - Broncos vs. Cowboys - Post Match Discussion

I am still in shock over the ref wanting a penalty try to the Cows.

He should wear the goose of the week hat & shirt.

On the other hand it did save us. On the third mutant hand, they spent the rest of the match trying to make up to the Cowboys for it.

We would have won by more if it wasn't for superb defence from the Cowboys. We marked Thurston well all night. Plenty of pressure on his kicking game and it showed. Thaiday has started delivering what we know he is capable of. I think Prince is on shaky ground even after us winning. Ben Hunt is in exceptional form and Macca has looked sharp as well. Hoffman is at home on the wing and has all of a sudden become a great finisher.

Awesome

Finally a win at home and back-to-back victories

Even sweeter when both supporter bases give us shit.

Yeah but AP thinks we shouldn't re-sign him, lol.

Don't forget Thaiday too lol

Damn, that was one hell of a game! Best Broncos game I've watched in a fair while I'd say.

Ben Hannant was a mammoth for us. He might not make metres as easily as Scott and Tamou, but his attitude and drive is brilliant to watch. Never gives up.

Want to give a big shout-out to Josh Hoffman as well. Ran with gusto whenever he got the ball, and his try-scoring ability out on there on the wing is so, so valuable.

He didn't score any tries or make any line-breaks tonight, but I thought Justin Hodges was sensational. Got us out of trouble countless times with his trademark dummy-half scoot... yet some people on here get up him for doing it? You know it's coming every time, but the opposition just can't seem to stop him from eating up 15-20 metres. His desire to win is also fantastic - I noticed when the Cowboys were still leading towards the end, we took a drop-out and he made the first tackle on the Cowboys runner, then let out a war cry to his teammates.

As I said earlier ...what a great game to watch tonight. Loads of people were saying how Brisbane are getting boring to watch...Ha! The last 3 Brisbane games have been pearlers.

Hard to be too critical of the team after a game like that. Everyone had their moments.....good and bad.

The offloads from Hannant were great to see.......still though I think our forwards sometimes are still running a little too much one out. Be good to see Gillett & Glenn following either Parker or Hannant (especially now if he keeps tonight's off loading up). Thaiday is getting back to his best (defensive brain snap tonight aside). Two good games in a row...hope he continues the form.

Halves have still a long way to go in regards to organising the team. WTF was Gillett doing with the ball on the 5th ...trying to kick? There were times tonight I thought I could see us drifting back into that flat style of attack and we started to look the worse for it. That said though, the defence from both sides was awesome......attacking plays were hard to come by. We do seem to have that spread to the left worked out pat. Terrific hands for Hoffman's 2nd by Norman and Reed.

Still contemplaying my 3,2,1's.......

Maranta big improvement from last week. Reeds finding some good form. Hoffman's finishing and general play has been very good. Certainly starting to redeem himself in a lot of our eyes.

Hodgo went hard .....some of Gillett's defensive work was superb.

Norman was as enigmatic as ever. Very good things mixed in with some very bad. Lucky to get away with the dropped bomb in the first half and him missing kicks for touch is pulling out your pubic hair kinda stuff. Still though he's our best fullback at the moment....and IMO making a good fist of it.

Hala was looking very good there for a while. I can only assume Griffin is weaning him back in after his injury. Disappointed not to see him get a 2nd spell.

Overall a well ground out victory. If we can continue to play tough and hang in there during games, there's nobody out there we can't beat. Melbourne have shown they got a few chinks.

Really looking forward to the Broncs V Bunnies game.....I think they are the yard stick atm

Still a lot of improvement in this side but there's some real bronco spirit starting to emerge.. ie that sense of the big moments in games when the whole side seems to take it up a notch..

I just had a feeling they'd do what it took to get the chance to score that last try for the win.. A far cry from even three weeks ago

Probably the best match I've ever seen hannant play, kudos to him. Was outstanding. Still doesn't mean I wa t to resign him on big bucks. Do it for a whole season like players like matt Scott do and then we can talk. I love how you guys jump up and down like you've been proven right after 1-2 games lol. Where was this hannant for the last 3 years? He deadset was phoning it in compared to this match.

parker was equally great, good to see his offload again.

I see prince copping a lot of flack, much of which is unwarranted I think. Its no surprise that our attack has had more depth and structure this year than it has in the last 3, and its not cause of Wallace. Beautiful pass for maranta, and was knocked senseless in the second half and couldn't even stand up for a good 3 tackles. Surprised he wasn't pulled earlier, he was goneskis.

hala had a few great runs, Glenn was excellent, and reed and Norman are fast becoming a lethal combination. Hoffman is the finisher we've been lacking since folau left. Can't wait for McGuire to return, if thaiday and hannant keep this up our forward pack will roll most teams.

great defense by the cowboys, should've been 30-10. Grahams volley ball skills were awesome, good to see him inch closer to the hundred try mark. Matt Scott is a machine with ball in hand. Played like a man possessed.

that potential penalty try....wtf lol. Don't think I've ever seen anything like that before. Penalty try? No? Ok play on. W. T. F.

great game to watch, very entertaining. Now to see how we go when we lose thaiday/hannant/hodges/gillett/mcguire to origin.

I like this post!

Just to add, I think Hala has huge potential. If he can get his fitness up and give us two good 20 minute sessions per half, he can be a real machine and hopefully replace Anderson's prop role. He's got a great run on him.

When Thaiday was quizzing the ref about the so called 'penalty try', I was telling Thaiday through the TV, don't not touch the ref & put your hands behind your back.

Just got home from the match. Good game live and I will have another watch tomorrow. I didn't think Prince deseved the flaming he has copped, at the moment what he gives us in attack is enough to make up for his liabilities else where. I thought Macca made some bigger mistakes.

It was a good tough win, beautiful quick hands from Reed for our last try and Hoff is turning into a first rate finisher.
I always had the feeling at the game we would win.

I thought some of the reffing was just pathetic, soft penalty against Hannant for holding, ridiculous attempt to give a penalty try which I don't think I have ever seen in 40 years playing coaching or watching. Also when we got forced back inside our ingoal midway through the second half that had to be called held, here is the rule it's very clear. Potential big turning point and the refs should not be getting these things wrong.

Moving tackled 2. (a) Where opponents do not make a tackle effective in the
player .....................quickest possible manner but attempt to push, pull or
...............................carry the player in possession, it is permissible for
...............................colleagues of the tackled player to lend their weight in
...............................order to avoid losing ground. Immediately this happens
...............................the referee should call “Held”.

Anyway, we defended the fuckups really well and seem to be finding that balance between good D and attack again. Lots of things to improve on from here but so good we have dropped that rubbish playing style that had us all in a frenzy.
