Round 6 - Broncos vs. Cowboys - Post Match Discussion

Yep. While i agree with others that Sam overplayed it by coming up too fast, Macca was just plain slow/lazy in getting back in position. I don't know if he got dazed in the tackle on Tariq Sims or not, but it was just poor.
i remember one attempted tackle on sims by mccullough left him clutching at his left shoulder, that couldve been it.

I thought Hunt pulled off the tackle to cause the knock on.

Macca was getting back into the line and then Thaiday rushed up leaving Macca on his heels and a gaping hole

Im fairly sure Macca was at marker and just clocked off on the play, Sam was counting on Macca committing to the dummy half runner but that never happened so the gap was opened for the cowboys.

His kick that lead to that strong defence in that set was also crucial.

What a great game, nothing too bad to say except cut out the silly 5th tackle options. Also whenever we kick there's almost no pressure on the chase, they are always a fair amount away, could be something to do with us not having a kicker who can kick it high enough. Such a difference compared to our first couple of games. Forwards had a huge game. It's funny, I was one of those saying our halves were the bigger problem when our forwards were playing bad footy. Not so sure about that, now that our forwards are doing well our halves seem to be going better as well.

This game is a perfect example of why I love this club - so much character. What I really appreciated was that when things were beginning to look pear shape, the boys stepped up another gear and really took it to the Cowboys with McCullough hitting Scott with the tackle of the game to regain possession. Then that effort in the corner - great hands from Norman and Reed equaled by a great effort to just put the ball down before entering touch from Hoffman. The boys have shown a lot of belief since that Storm game and it's just really reassuring after some anxious performances.

Forwards were sublime. Up against one of the best front rows in the world, the boys stood tall and out-played them with Hannant & Parker in particular starring. Tough to pick between either player really for man of the match but I believe Channel 9 got it right with Parker who threw a beautiful offload to help set up the first points of the night before making an absolute try saving tackle on Cooper that changed the complexion of the game.

Speaking of that instance, maybe it's my Broncos tinted glasses, but the refs. have seemingly been against us since Round 1. Some of those calls from Klein were dead-set terrible and it just seems like he tries to stand out by making 'clever' calls that just turn out to be really stupid. Still can't believe he got a gig after his terrible performance in the 2008 WC Final.

Good to see Hala improve on his last game too. He's still far from match fit hence he came off only 5 minutes into the second half (he looked buggered coming off too) but once he gets going, he should be an absolute weapon off the bench. What a run to open the second half!

Also how good is it to see the side assert themselves as the dominant Queensland side? After all the hoopla about how amazing the Titans and Cows were (even from our own supporters) it's good to be able to rub it in their faces.

That got me and most likely the rest of the crowd so fucking pumped. made me cheer as loud as when we scored. Nek minnit, Broncos score, Broncos win. yessss

People are talking about Sticky's tirade against the refs, which is fair enough, especially given he has form, but what about Neil Henry and Thurston in their post game media conference? That was the biggest whinge I've seen in quite a while, and while I can understand their anger at the interruption and the absolute stupidity by Klein, that was way over the top. :glare:
The funny part is that it should've been tackle 4, not tackle 3 as the refs called or tackle 5 as Griffin said, and most of the Broncos line was back and far superior in numbers than the Cowboys.

it came up on screen as the 5th tackle as the video ref was called for.

i watched the highlights. it shows the wide angle and all of the broncs had gotten back barring two guys who had about another 2 metres to run when the whistle was blown. they would of been onside by the time the ball was played.

Just checked the highlights and yes, you're right, and so is Griffin... it was indeed 5th tackle!

The commentary was also hilarious... from Fatty "He was never onside", to Lewis "Had they let the play go on, the Cowboys only needed to go 2 or 3 passes to the left and they would've have score, Brisbane didn't have any defense". This was after all the replays too... really Wally, no defence? :001_rolleyes:

This is at tackle 4, with most of Brisbane's line well ahead of any Cowboys player on the left:

yep and that was only the 4th. the two guys of ours who were still getting back were very much back onside when the whistle was blown.

we had a full defensive line.

In fairness, they would have been back-pedalling even if they did make it to the line, and in no position to rush out to the required 5-10 metre mark in order to defend properly.

Nah mate, by the time the tackle was complete on Cooper, the whole line bar 2 players was set on our try line, and the Cows didn't have the numbers to attacke the left side. Having said that, Thurston is a freak and anything is possible in such a situation!

The point is that Henry and Thurston went off their heads with no reason other than the play the ball was stopped for the stupid Klein decision. I don't think they were in a position to score at all at that point. Graham however should've passed inside to Tate on the previous play, and it would've been a practically certain try!

Yep I was wondering what game Lewis was watching as well, we had the numbers to defend it, also the vid ref was correct as Parker did travel 10 metres to be onside when he made the tackle. Commentators got it all wrong.
