Round 6 - Broncos vs Panthers

Bullemor has me a bit excited too. Looking at Isaah Yeo, he looked pretty ordinary before last year. Then he showed how effective footwork is in the middle of the field in the modern game and was possibly the most improved player in the game last year. Bullemor could be like that but hopefully even better.

I said it in the live thread, talent wise, there is a fair bit of Dave Taylor about Bullemor. Luckily he is a heck of a lot smarter off the field. He is an extremely exciting prospect.

Love all the shade on Dearden. /s

The kids not going to suddenly turn into cronk especially after his entire NRL career has been in a team getting absolutely smashed week in week out.

Not willing to pass any real judgement until the team at least plays with some ticker like they did tonight for 5-10 games first. Walker is flashy and has been absolutely surrounded by the best in the NRL. Can play with confidence that one error in attack is not going to cost them the game. For our boys, those shots in attack are rare and often have a lot riding on them. Not saying he's great... but he deserves half a season at least in a team winning some games at least.

I'll watch the game again but I didn't see much backline play tonight, possibly because we didn't really have much of a backline in attack. Wingers were good but not on the end of creative moves. I hope Croft and Dearden become more involved on the edges and wider. Like that set play with Croft and Bull, but why only once?

Oates on that performance deserves his place on the wing. His defence was outstanding.

Can't wait to see Herbie in this side playing as well as tonight, provided that he gets quality ball. I'd also like to see Tesi back in the centres. Isaako does some great things, but I'm still unconvinced that he is what we need at the back. Positionally still way off.

Our kicking game is a mix of ok and crap. We didn't put enough pressure on them although kick chases were very good. At last. Looking forward to the Eels, with Herbie back. We have a really good chance of winning if we continue the energy and commitment, and better use our strike weapons. Pangai was immense. He could be up there with the very best back rowers. Wish Dearden/Croft worked more set plays with Pangai, Riki and Bullemor, and Haas still has no support runners when he takes off.

Sleeping much better tonight. Really enjoyed the game.

Now if only we could get kennedy a run off the bench
I was stoked to hear KW give him a rap during the presser.
I'd love to see Kennedy and Lodge start and save that insane beast Haas from doing purely grunt work. Lodge, followed Kennedy followed by Haas followed by TPJ. Boom boom boom boom.

What I kept saying was we needed to play to our strength, up the middle we are good enough to match any team and are superior to most so I hope KW sticks with his forwards winning the middle.

Are you talking about the same team that had several chances to score a try or build pressure in the second half but couldn’t get anything right? Stupid passes, stupid kicks and stupid options. Not once did Dearden get the ball tonight and I thought “hey he looks like he is going to do something good”. Isaako was to blame also but Jesus Christ Dearden was ordinary. He put a kick through on the third tackle and it was only a mead tackle that got us a repeat set because it was a very poor kick and option.

I’ll say it time and again. Dearden isn’t the right option at the moment and I just don’t see anything in this guy. I’m hoping to god he is the next Thurston but I just don’t see it happening.

To say that Milford has an effect on the attitude and commitment of the other 16 players is silly. Yes he is the highest paid player at the club and I agree he isn’t worth 1 million a year but that doesn’t mean that Dearden should be picked ahead of him.
Im talking about the team who had a chance of beating the Panthers tonight, something no one would have predicted. Maybe you're not aware, but the Broncos are on a record break streak of record breaking loses. Maybe appreciate that we were in the game against a top 4 team until the last 5 minutes, rather than the usual 40+ point blow out.

As for Miford... you think It's silly that the highest paid, most experienced player wearing number 6 in a team of 20 year olds would have an effect on attitude?

Can you do a write up of all the missed opportunities, inability to apply any pressure with poor kick choices (How many repeat sets have the Broncos had in 3 years? Probably had more in 1 game tonight.), drifting in and out of games and total absence of leadership for Milford for the last 3 years? It's only fair given his greater level of experience and pay grade.

I guarantee bringing back Milford would undo the positive performance tonight.

... and with a decent backline taking advantage of the momentum. Lots to look forward to

Do the NRL COVID protocols allow players to play if they are sick? If you're going to blame illness on a shit performance, provide some more info.
Just telling you Glenn was ill leading up to the game. Check yourself. Didn't say he played well, didn't say he played well over the last few weeks.

Haven't seen that sort of intensity in defense since the first half of Round 1. Plenty of opportunities to steal that game, the problem being that these guys haven't a clue how to win. Lots of positives coming out of tonight and something for Kevie to build on for next year when he can get serious about assembling the roster that he desires.

Yes way smarter... man just won in life... genius and a good athlete

Fifita was ill a few weeks ago and was still one of the most dominant players -v- the Warriors a few days out of hospital. Next excuse please, caller.

You want to know what’s most pleasing... as a team we have gained respect back... everyone now knows what we can achieve and as a result not only will expectations rise but so will respect and preparation from other teams

Helps us with recruitment too. The good players will see there's a lot to work with.

For me the best part of tonight was our defence. Haven't seen it as good as that for ages. Walter's looks like he is getting through to the players at last. I'm expecting it to get a lot better now that he has. The players must be stoked. Better things to come methinks.
