PRE-GAME Round 8 - Broncos vs Eels

The only knock I can see against him is that he has trouble linking up with his outside man but that can be learned over time.

I can live with a bit of ball-hogging.

I can't live with those mistakes under the high ball.

And since I dredged up the memory, I still think he was interfered with in mid-air by Graham.

I really don't know what to make of Copley. He's not quite a winger, and he's not quite a centre. He's a little of both and a little of neither.

Definitely better than Reed, but he really doesn't seem to have any skills besides running straight.

Hes never given a chance at being in one position for very long. Left centre/wing, right centre/wing. Im sure if he was given some stability in his position you would know exactly what he is meant to be

He has a handy swerve .....and a strong fend.

Is Kahu training?
If Hodges plays, they need Oates on the bench as cover

Mitchie, I tend to agree fella. I seen Oatesy at the Chermside Mall yesterday lunchtime an wow, what can i say ,his a magnificent specimen of a human bean. His literally got muscles growing on hes muscles an i can only imagine what his gona look like when he finally stops growing. Out of interest, does anyone know if Oatesy has a partner/wife etc? Well hopefully he gets a run on Saturday so he can strutt hes stuff.

Faith in Oates

Eels expected to be 1-17.

Unsure if he's in Brisbane but Radradra isn't expected to play.

I can understand why it happened given the last years curse on our 3/4 line, but all the shuffling around hasn't helped Copley much.

His spot is undoubtedly left centre imo, where he is at his most lethal, be it in attack or defense. He needs some stability in the position to perform at his best though... I just hope that this run of injuries ends!

It sounds like Vidot was dropped, not injured. Bennett said he will back at Ipswich this week.

This, and as Mr4X said, also a handy swerve and a strong fend, and.... he can really hit hard in a tackle.

Some people seem to have a short memory

He just needs to be left in the centres where he belongs, end of story

QFT.

He's an average winger and a quality (if raw) centre, and has easily looked his best at left centre.

Doubt he'll ever be in the Jamie Lyon or Inglis mould at setting his outside man up, but I could see him being on par with Jennings given time.

I'm not so sure of that RT. I think the full array of Copley's skills and talent are still to be fully tapped, and under Bennett, I see it happening. Nevertheless, you are right - he is a bit raw, probably because he seems to me to be a confidence player and being shuffled around, as Porthoz posted hasn't done his confidence much good. He needs stability, quality coaching and experience.

I see Copley as potentially one of the very best centres in the game. I just hope that Bennett keeps Reed on the wing, or a further step to the left, never to return to the centres except in emergencies, and even then ...

While I fully endorse other posters about players being selected in positions that are best for the team instead of spitting dummies, at the same time, there is also the question whether or not those selections are in fact the best ... Reed for one comes to mind. And I don't see anything wrong in a player saying where he likes to play, what he would like to see as his future, yet do what he is told by the coaching staff in the best interests of the team.

Do people remember some of the class tries Copley scored in the centres last year?

From Feb 2014 ...

"DALE Copley wants to secure a permanent move to the centres and has targeted the interim vacancy left by Brisbane skipper Justin Hodges as his best chance to take his career in the direction he has long desired."

“It has always been my goal to play centre in the NRL. That is the position I played throughout my junior career.
“Obviously I’ve played the majority on the wing in the NRL but centre is hopefully where I will end up.”
