Round 8 - Broncos vs Titans

Just re watched all our tries and one thing I noticed was that Milford never celebrates a try. Could be nothing but he hardly even breaks out an air punch and for Arthur’s try he didn’t even join the celebration huddle at all.
He celebrated the win in the sheds, great big smile on his face, been a long time since I’ve seen him with one.

Herbie and Oates communicated really well in defence tonight. Didn’t panic snd worked together. Good to see. I have been a huge critic of Oates but he’s been really good since he’s been back and has shown more leadership than I’d ever seen from him.

Riki was very poor again. Blew some good opportunities and ran 5 times for 34m. Needs more time in Q cup.

One of the craziest games of football I have ever attended.

From the low low depths at 15mins, seeing the Titans players absolutely taking the piss with us, their fucking mascots mocking the fans to the absolute jubilation of running over the top of them and scoring some lovely tries.

They are a cocky, arrogant bunch of fuckwits considering they have done absolutely nothing but be big noted by the media.

Feels good to get a win, especially over the titans after that start.

Just got to keep working on limiting the damage done to us in those periods of the game where we dont have momentum.

I would also love to see Isaako take some of our distance kicks out of trouble on tackle 5. He would have to have the longest kick in the team. Doesn't need to do it all the time, just be an option.

What a way to start the long weekend. ❤

Could be good to give him a run there once Glenn is back. I don't think I'd be dropping him until then though, just not enough options.

For someone who seems to hate being seen in public, he really picked a bad career

I questioned the titans in the preseason and was feeling a bit silly when they won a few but I think they’re in quite a bit of trouble. Their defence is terrible and their million dollar forward doesn’t like hard work.

The useless ***** have won 3 games from 8. We've won 2. Titans are still pretty shit, they just have a higher ceiling this season.

Well here we go:

1. Isaako - What the heck? Like, I was ready to hook him after 22-0, absolute shocking first 15 minutes and then...absolute top drawer for the rest of the game. One of the most stark in game reversals you will ever see, by the end of it, he looked like an elite fullback, surreal - 8
2. Coates - PLEASE RE-SIGN HIM!!! This kid is going to be elite, he is already very good. I love his heart, his willingness to keep coming no matter what and he was excellent tonight in almost everything he did - 8
3. Arthars - Many have been calling for him to be given a shot in the centres over the last two years and he finally got it. He took a little while to get into the game but once he did, he worked really well with TPJ and Milf and that defensive side, although up against Fifita, looked pretty solid for the most part. He did drop what could have been a crucial ball - 6
4. Farnworth - Shaun Wane, you are an idiot. What a dumb thing to do to drop him from the England squad. He bounced back really well on his normal side after last week and he was great. Wane, you just cut your only good back, stupidity - 7
5. Oates - Ahh how nice to see vintage Oates running free on an intercept. He has come back from ISC a better player, he is dependable again. He takes the big carries and is punishing people in defense. He won't get the plaudits he deserves for that performance - 8
6. Milford - Real signs of life and looked like he loved having clarity on his role and a halfback who was actually helpful. Not back to his best by any means but some really smooth touches - 7
7. Gamble - Wow! He did exactly what he's been doing in ISC and then some! He was phenomenal, he was everywhere, he fired up, he got his team into it, he was mouthy and so much direction and class. Again, wow! - 9
8. Haas - What an inspiration as always. He just continues to perform week in and week out and he must be loving finally having some help from other players starting to step up, Kevvie is also using him much better - 9
9. Turpin - He was excellent and I think he also benefitted from Gamble directing things around, he knew where to put the ball and when, he knew when to run and he tackled as well as ever, nice game and used well by Kevvie - 8
10. Lodge - Shocking first stint, better in his return to action but still not good enough for a guy on his wage. There are definite weekly improvements though but needs to become consistent - 6
11. Riki - He is such a competitor and you can see what he is going to become and it is exciting. Currently though, he is a bit susceptible with his hands and in defense but in fairness, he shouldn't be starting at his age and due to age, he will have ups and downs but he never gives up and you can see he loves the team and we love him. He is already good but there is still massive upside - 6
12. Pangai Jr - Best on ground? Probably and he has become some player. Civo is doing wonders with him but TPJ is the one putting it all together out there, he was almost as perfect as you can get. He totally nullified Fifita, ran straight at him from start to finish, he belted him and had him running scared. He pulled off two amazing try savers (three really if you include the Rein double movement), generated second-phase pay, backed up in support threw cut out passes both ways and quite frankly, elite - 10
13. Carrigan - He looked to really enjoy leading a team that was first grade standard for once and led from the front. He did some excellent runs that bent the line and must have had some pretty decent post-contact metres and his defense seems to be improving, he is still dropping off some tackles but not as many as before - 7

14. Levi - Seemed to gel with the team much better this week and more like his ISC games thus far. I bet you didn't even notice he came on such was the seamlessness with Turpin. He provided crisp service and was much calmer this week, very good second game - 6
15. Flegler - Look, yes there was a brain snap or two but he was MUCH better this week. He continued Kennedy's momentum when he came on and ran and tackled really hard. There is an elite front rower in him, it is clear as day but he needs time and patience because man, the good is really good, just inconsistent and that is ok at his age - 7
16. Bullemor - Came on and did his uptempo style against tired forwards well. He won't make the highlight reels but that's ok because he did his job and he did it really well. There is so much good Dave Taylor about him, when he is unshackled, look out! He is perfectly suited to Vlandys ball and he is progressing really nicely, so glad we have him locked up - 7
17. Kennedy - Another WOW! I have always been impressed with him and have been calling for him to get more game time but tonight he delivered in spades! He turned the momentum, that's right Kennedy swung the 22-0 momentum towards the Broncs. He ran with absolute venom and bent or buckled the line every single run. He smashed anything that came his way and he was popping really smart offloads that lead to line breaks and/or tries. He did understandably start to fatigue but then Kevvie rightly took him off. Kennedy was the second best forward on the night in my opinion along with Haas and shaded by TPJ which is fine, TPJ was the best player on the field - 9

I told ya’s. TPJ bullied Fifita and we won.

I’m so glad his attitude has apparently been better because he’s been my favourite player for years. The beast was running sideward with the ball just to find Fifita and run into him.

Haas is an machine who does huge amounts of work but TPJ comes up with so many big plays that you almost take them for granted. He was immense.

Imagine if Staggs was being fed those great balls that was giving Arthur’s half breaks all night.
Did me proud in fantasy and the game what a call.

love it

@Wolfie lucky charm post?

Is piakura eligible to be selected for first grade? If so I’d be happy to give him a run off the bench and dropping riki for a much needed break from first grade.

I know people will hate an AFL reference but he reminds me of Mitch Robinson. A guy who just needed a chance and the Lions took it on him after he looked like his career was done (in his case mostly due to his own stupidity), anyway he got the chance and has become the heart and soul of the club. He always leads the team song, he always does the 1% stuff and puts his body on the line every minute of every game. He isn't the most talented player in the squad but he is always talking, always promoting the club and always takes the new kids under his wing. The opposition hate him but us fans, we absolutely love him!

Definitely need a few players like that to be successful
