POST GAME [Round 9, 2022] Rabbitohs vs Broncos

It's my understanding that the reason we have not yet re-signed Corey oates is because he has told the Broncos he's not going anywhere and has advised them to make it a priority to sign up the likes of Herbie, Cobbo and TMM and he's happy to take whatever is left on top of the club discount we get for his long-term service.

TMM needs to work on his support play.

I think our very first set in their 20, or it could be the second, Robati has his arms free looking for someone to offload to and TMM just stood there.

If he ran up in support, he had a clear run to the line.

I agree, it really stood out that no one was there. I didn't think TMM was all that great last night but I am willing to cut him some slack given he is starting from so far back conditioning wise. He is certainly bringing a lot to the team already and as he gets up to speed, he will likely become a real weapon.

Sauce? If that is the case, I'd be extremely happy with him for that...and sign him anyway. That is the kind of attitude you want in your players.

He has an ongoing issue with his manager doesn't he?

For all of Payne Haas's elite qualities as a prop, makes 200m a game most games.. I don't know how he hasn't scored a couple of more tries.
He's a massive upright post contact meter eater, you can't score tries unless you compelle yourself closer to the ground. He needs to start offloading to really establish himself as a real attacking player.

Flegler said after the game that the coaching team has been speaking to the forwards about being selective with offloads, finding their fronts and getting quick play the balls.

Our forwards had previously seemed to have prioritised metres over everything and it’s one of those things where looking less effective on paper (stats) is actually better for the team overall (playing to a spot on the field, gaining quick play the balls). It’s good that this is being addressed and last night shows the benefits. Haas still needs to bring this into his game.

Selective offloads is a big change. In the past it seems the forwards would just dump it back any chance they'd get, with little thought if it was hitting a man or the ground. If it did go to a man, it was usually Turpin standing flatfooted and doing nothing but getting tackled a metre or two behind the initial contact.

The offloads now are coming out with more consideration, and the players getting the ball are usually able to capitalise by spreading it quick or making metres in behind the ruck while defenders are still engaged. Reynold's try last night as a great example of that happening twice in the same play.

Mind reading now? I mean Annersley did the same with no subconscious bias nonsense.
Yeah from what I could tell he did try to get up and got immediately tackled. Nothing there indicates he surrendered
The penalty from the referee standing right there did.

It doesn't matter, anyway. What point are we trying to prove here: that the referee was in a conspiracy against the Broncos? Because that whiny shit is fucking tiresome.

When Flegs was interviewed by Fittler in the sheds he was pretty nonchalant and give both Oates and Herbie a friendly serve for being on their phones and not enjoying the moment. It came across as if he was a bit of an Alpha male in there.

He`s got the ranga factor !
Ever seen a ranga go off ? You don`t wanna be in the same post code if it happens . LOL .

Cue Benny Hill theme

Why? If I were Demetriou, I would be praising my side for that. I would love to see almost everyone on the field chasing even they aren't going to get there, it shows competitiveness and a willingness to put in even if the result isn't going to matter. I'm proud of Souths' players for that and I couldn't care less about that club.

The discount for long-term service is pretty useless unfortunately.

It's a total of 188k per year and applies to anyone who has spent 8 years at one club, or 10 years in the NRL across any clubs, so Adam Reynolds is eligible, so is Corey Oates, Ryan James and David Mead.

So you'll quickly see why it's not worth much, as long as you've got 1 person who is eligible, it's useful since it's a 188k discount on the cap, but past the first person it's not much benefit.

Happy to re-sign Oates but it should be 300k max. The Morris brothers were better players and both stuck around for 300k, I think that's a good figure for a winger who isn't really elite but does the job every week.

That's how you drain their tank. They were never coming back after that. I was expecting the floodgates to open after that. Like the last two weeks.

I wasnt trying to prove anything. I didn’t even read any other post on the matter. Just commenting that based on the wording of the rule, I disagree that Herbie didn’t attempt to get up.

I know the coach wants to see them all competing but the only bloke in that pack capable of chasing him down gave up after about 30 metres
Funny to see Reyno chipping Cody Walker as he runs back to their end. :rofl

It's not intentional by a lot of players, but it's still foul play but like you say, other players do it all the time. It's that lack of consistency.
There's a difference though. When JWH does it, it's his ball carrying arm that he raises. So it's accepted as bracing yourself. RK used his non carrying arm. For the record, I think both should be a penalty if the contact is from neck/throat up.

Cobbo’s try is the only time I’d allow Ginnanes “Goooooodbye”!
